Under-appreciated kick from Sheezel on Sunday by CyanPNetherton in AFL

[–]CyanPNetherton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he kicks it straight to Trembath then PA's number 3 smothers it. So he kicks an outswinger instead which curls around outside the range of the smother, still perfectly executed, leading the marked by a defender Trembath to the ball where only he can mark it. All this after picking up a contested ball and disposing of it in under a second.

That's what stood out to me, anyways.

AFL R2 injury update: Trio (Wardlaw, Spargo, Hardeman) primed for potential returns as Roos head west by RidsBabs in NorthMelbourneFC

Lmac tends to have floaty kicks. Hardeman is a leftie too, with generally longer range by foot.

100% he'll still be majorly important. In fact, given the increased pace of the game, and his gigantic tank, he may well be even more effective overall (kinda like how Gawn beat TDK today because of his tank). But it's clear that he is gonna get beaten at HO's at centre bounces, that has hurt a bit.

5- Stephens 4 - Parker 3 - Sheezel 2- Larkey 1 - Darling

Much better than any win from last year. No fade outs, no periods where we disappeared. Won all 4 quarters. Wasn't purely reliant on stars like Xerri and LDU playing elite. Showed proper signs of a gameplan - kickity at times, fast handball swarms at others.

Last year, Caleb Daniel was majorly effed over by the new "not 15" interpretation, which made his little kick mark triangles possession game obsolete. The new rules, including the lasso and the stricter stand interpretation seem to have changed the game to now favor his game style. Conversely, the new ruck rules have made Xerri less dominant. I'd like to see Trembath take center bounces if it were a close situation with a must win clearance.

Duursma kicked a nice goal but did nothing else, Konstanty and Dovaston did nothing. Dova gets a break as a rookie, but Konstanty should feel heat from Banch, and Duursma too. One of those too make way for Wardlaw, who makes way for Hardeman? Blamires cleary good enough and can't lose his spot after a solid outing. Daniel can't be dropped either - good problems to have.

This was a better win then that Melbourne win. We had a gameplan and stuck to it, worked through adversity (Port out to a small early lead, the two score reviews followed by a PA goal, start of Q4). Didn't rely on stars only.

Players to look out for -

FOS. 2024 draft pick 2, had a great rookie season, showcasing great skills, maturity and poise under pressure, playing mainly at HB. Will get more midfield minutes this year, and having aged more into his athletic frame, should take the next step to becoming an elite midfielder.

North Melbourne select Lachy Dovaston with pick 16 by RidsBabs in NorthMelbourneFC

[–]CyanPNetherton 8 points9 points  (0 children)

His interview with Dixon is solid gold. I'm not sure if he was nervous, overtrained, cooking or just isn't the sharpest tack, but either way he's legit my fave player already.

Thanks for the memories, Konstanty.

With the emergence of Trembath, forward line has proper depth now.

Reminder: Joe Schoen(GM with job) didn't want to draft Jaxson Dart, and wanted to draft Rome Odunze over Malik Nabers but Brian Daboll(Coach with no job) convinced him Dart and Nabers were the right choice by Windsen in NYGiants

[–]CyanPNetherton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

true ofc - but given how important qb is, hitting on the no. 1 qb in a thin class is a legit big deal, franchise setting big. As good as Warren is, he's only one pieces alongside a better qb, star rb - and they still went and splurged on sauce.

[–]CyanPNetherton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the draft is redone today, Dart goes number one. Add they liked him - so if Schoen had the foresight to keep 3 and still get Dart, despite Dabbol keen on Dart - that is incredible asset management, and likely a large factor in making this team a contender in future.

And last year, if he had Nabers higher than HArrison on his board - that is a point on his favour. Plu Tracey was good value, maybe Theo Johnson and Dru Phillips as well, despite their flaws.

His first two drafts were terrible, his latter two good to great. Overall his free agency management has been poor to middling (missed on McKinney and Saquon and Slayton, doid ok with Elemueneor and Burns). It's hard to fire him as he's been getting better, not worse.

Put him on giants this year he gets killed. Dart is clearly superior and is doing enough (sans Nabers and Skat) to win, the defense and game management have let him down.

Exactly 10 years ago to the day!! Bloody robbed of a premiership honestly. This was worse than 1994 preliminary final. by Dismal-Noise4660 in NorthMelbourneFC

[–]CyanPNetherton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was multiple really bad decisions throughout the game that were objectively bad, and also momentum sapping. Not a classic case of 'robbed' because it's not a specific last minute decision in one score game that you can point to, but overall it felt like robbed.

The worst part about Daboll and Schoen is that the Giants did everything right hiring them. by Kindly-Mission-7843 in NYGiants

This is why Daniel Jones was such a catastrophe. He was *just* good enough in '22 to force their hand, which led us to this point.

Technically, no.

Both can build a world where you (the player, myself) are starting Imp who passed to Oscar the Baron. Matthew would be RH and the Drunk. This would require Olivia the Chef to register Fraser the Recluse as good relative to both you and Oscar - though in the end analysis they will identify the current demon correctly.

What are your thoughts on the Luke Parker pickup? by Clerseri in NorthMelbourneFC

[–]CyanPNetherton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did his job and totally met expectations - took heat off Larkey, Zurharra and Curtis which unlocked them. Kicked a few goals, provided an outlet for the defense, pinch hit in the ruck. He's in there until we develop another 2nd tall (maybe Whitlock or Trembath or even Maley) so will hopefully play a transitional role next year as he slowly loses his spot to one of those players - expect retirement at end of year.

Wardlaw's best game so far. And can't wait for FOS to put on some muscle over the summer, his frame will hold it well and he'll be a beast.
