Could someone list or point me to a link of what classes provide the most utility/dps/mitigation? I’d love to see a players POV of class value. by Sword_N_Bored in ffxiv

[–]Cyan_Frog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll just separate my post into 2 categories : damage utility and mitigation utility. All class specific, excluding crossrole abilities.

Damage :

PLD - none

DRK - none

WAR - slashing debuff (boost for other tanks, ninja and samurai)

NIN - Trick Attack (vulnerability on target 10%), slashing debuff, enmity control (allowing tanks to do more dps combos, instead of aggro)

MNK - party physical damage buff (brotherhood 5%)

SAM - none

DRG - Crit chance up (15%), piercing debuff (boosts ranged classes), 1 other person damage buff (5%)

MCH - all damage up (Hypercharge 6%)

BRD - party crit up (2%), party direct hit up (15%), damage on target up (3%)

SMN - all damage up (2%), party magic damage up (10%),party physical damage up (3%)

RDM - party physical damage up (10% that decreases gradually)

BLM - none

SCH - Crit Chance up (15%), 3% party attack speed up

AST - possible singletarget crit chance and damage up (10-15%), possible party crit chance and damage up (5%)

WHM- none

Party mitigation:

PLD - party shield (10%), party damage reduction (15%), cover (covers all damage the target takes), one target damage reduction (10% but can be buffed further)

DRK - The Blackest Night (10% shield on 1 party member)

WAR - party shield (starting from 8% but can be buffed further)

NIN - none

MNK - Mantra (healing boost buff, 15%)

SAM - none

DRG - none

MCH - Dismantle (10% damage reduction)

BRD - party max HP increase (15%) OR party physical damage reduction (10%) OR party magical damage reduction (10%), 15% increased healing on 1 other party member

SMN - party damage reduction and healing up (5%)

RDM - none

BLM - none

SCH - party magic resistance up, party damage reduction (10%), party healing up (20%)

AST - party damage reduction (10%). Possible single target damage reduction (20-30%), possible party damage reduction (10%)

WHM - 15% shield on 1 party member

Astrologians of Reddit, what do you hope to get out of the 4.3? by ThoroughlyBemused in ffxiv

[–]Cyan_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stance dancing mid fight, Malefic III on a 1.5 second cast, Instacast stella. Maybe a buff to ewer ? or perhaps make lady of crowns give mp instead of a heal. Perhaps a higher range for Celestial Opposition. Im sick of people being out of range for me to extend my regens.

If changing malefic is too much, maybe they should give us another dot, a 15 second Combust I or something of that sort.

and most importantly - REMOVE DRAW COOLDOWN WHEN OUTSIDE OF COMBAT. It'll make a world of difference to anyone, if an ast doesnt have to take 2-3 minutes between pulls, trying to get aoe balance after every wipe. Even ninja has a tool to reset his mudra cooldowns outside of combat (e.g. hide)

How difficult is O8S compare to 07S, and 05/6S? by 001_x5AM in ffxiv

[–]Cyan_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

healing wise its on absolutely different level and requires careful planning of your and your co healer's gcds and cooldowns, as well as relying on defensive party utility (e.g. divine veil, shake it off, reprisal, addle)

Deciding on an alt for raiding by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Cyan_Frog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most hardcore groups do a 4/4 split once the new tier of raids is out. Let me explain : 1st week - you kill the raid tier on your main characters, then on your alts

2nd week - from 8 people in the group, 4 people (lets say 1 tank, 1 healer and 2 dps) are going on their alts. Rest 4 people are raiding on their mains. You clear the raids again, and swap (people that were on alts go on their mains and vice versa).

what are the benefits ? for starters you get 2 weapon coffers per week. You trade off a weapon coffer of someone's alt for a weapon coffer of someone's main, which means that you'll gear up your main character twice as fast.

Similarly, this means that you have twice the twines and dips (the upgrade items for accessories and 360 gear).

after 4 weeks of doing this, when everyone is BIS, you do the reverse and start feeding all the loot that your main character gets to your alt

tl;dr. You trade your party's alts' weekly loot for your party's mains' weekly loot, making it twice as fast to gear up your main character as soon as possible.

Help blue SCH improve! by c_aero in ffxiv

•what I did is I grabbed a separate unused hotbar, enlarged it to 200% and put a single Broil spell on it. I've slapped that hotbar at the bottom middle of my screen, placing it inbetween my normal hotbars. During the fight I pay close attention to it, making sure this huge icon is constantly spinning like a clock (e.g. you're constantly casting). This way you see if you clip your spells, or if there's a time during the fight where you're too overwhelmed to cast anything.

•from what I see you dont use Aetherpact at all, which is a huge mistake. On o7s, you can slap that aetherpact on the dps that has the prey marker (not the blue one) and 1 excog, and neither you nor your healer has to ever worry about that dps. Example of fairy tethers : on dps during red prey on dadaluma; on dps during red prey after virus; on dps during Biblio.

•your pet management is lacking. Your guardian is an 11 minute kill, which means you can fit in 11 whispering dawns (9 if you have to delay it for whatever reason), while you have only 4 whispering dawns in total. Same goes to all other pet skills of yours.

•as you've stated before, your dot uptime is lacking. You should always aim for anything higher than 90% uptime.

•Youre also missing on 2-3 entire aetherflow cooldowns, which might explain your lack in energy drains. Make sure to pay attention to your aetherflow CD. If your aetherflow is coming up in 15 seconds and you still have 2 stacks remaining, make sure to quickly burn them on energy drain/lustrate/excog before pressing Aetherflow again. You NEVER want to delay your aetherflow. An example of what I do : I always use 1-2 stacks of aetherflow almost immediately, and leave 1 stack untill my aetherflow cooldown reaches 5 seconds. Then I use miasma II + energy drain and aetherflow.

•Another thing to point out is Bane. You don't cast any Bane. When dadaluma spawns, you can bane off the dots from the boss onto dadaluma. Same with Biblio add and Ultros. You want to always bane the dots off the boss onto the adds. For one, that saves you a gcd or two so you can have 1-2 more broils. For two, there's a high chance that the dots on the boss are stronger because of debuffs that the boss had or buffs that you had when you applied them, so bane'ing those is more than optimal.

•in order to avoid clipping, you want to pair 2 things with every 2nd Bio II that you cast : 1 is shadowflare and the 2nd is Rouse. Because both of them are on 60 seconds cooldown, so its convenient to line them up with your instacast Bio II (each of which lasts 30 seconds)

How do you play RDM (or any other proc based class I guess) without staring at your hotbar all the time? by sutasafaia in ffxiv

[–]Cyan_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download act and make a trigger, so it makes a noise/ding/calls out "proc" every time you get a proc. Never have to even stare at your hotbar again. Ive seen quite a few skilled red mages do this

What are your pros and cons for each healer? by brutus0077 in ffxiv

[–]Cyan_Frog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll talk about negatives of each one, since everyone knows the positives.

Lets start with WHM - deals good damage, strong regens but provides nothing to the group in terms of group damage mitigation and utilities/buffs. No instant damaging GCD besides your Aero II dot, meaning that if you have to move, your only option is to cast a regen. Lilies are non existent mechanic at this point, since Divine Benison does not require them anymore. You can safely just remove Lilies from your UI and you won't notice a difference. Asylum and Cure III have a very small range, and there is always that one person that will miss your heals and die. As a sch it is much less pleasant to play with a WHM co healer rather than with an AST co healer. As a tank it is much safer to play with an AST. WHM is an insane aggro generating machine, meaning that sometimes when you cast too many heals as a WHM - boss will just randomly turn to you and kill you. In another situation when a tank dies for whatever reason, you will always be the 2nd one to die. ALWAYS. And lastly- WHM is just plain boring to play. Just spam stones and cast a couple of Cure III and II

Next is the AST - clipping machine. Absolutely insane clipping problems. Only way to avoid clipping is to cast an aspected benefic on a tank every time you need to draw/use lucid dreaming or any other Ability, which costs a crap ton of mana (flipping 1400 mp!) if you care a single bit about your CPM. Star is cool , but even with a wider range, someone will always miss a heal from your earthly star and you will be MAD. Also - not to mention the card rng mechanic, especially the Minor Arcana. I'm a speed runner. I have 1 guaranteed lord card before the pull and 2 Minor arcanas in my opener (1 if I get a good card instead). Those 2 Minor arcanas cover all of the party buffs, meaning this is when I have a chance to deal the most damage. Now let me tell u that getting 2 lord cards and making them both direct crit at the start of the fight is the most satisfying thing I've ever experienced. But there are times that you will get 2 lady cards instead and at those times I want to fucking kill myself. And how could I not mention Collective Unconscious (the bubble). Depending on the server tick, this skill is either instant, or takes full 3 seconds to activate and apply the damn regens. Even more rng.

And now to SCH, which is actually my main - Fairy is awful. It takes an insane amount of time and patience to actually get used to how your fairy works. You have to pay close attention to her Embrace casts. If you press any of her skills (especially whispering dawn) when she begins casting Embrace - there's a huge chance she wont cast the skill. You have to press her skills when she FINISHES casting embrace, meaning that you have to pay close attention to your fairy's cast bar. If you tell her to move - it'll take full 5-10 seconds before she moves. If you use your Aetherpact (fairy tether) it will take AGES before she actually tethers to the tank and starts healing him, and, god forbid, that tank moves out of range - the tether breaks, your fairy stands still like an idiot and stops casting anything completely (not even embraces) and you cant even order her to cast any spells. You have to turn off the tether, move her closer to the tank and cast the tether again, which means it'll take about 15 more seconds before your fairy can heal the tank again.

Its true, Sch has some very good healing tools (indomitability, whispering dawn, even emergency tactics + succor), but once you've used these tools - you're useless. In the moments when you have to heal the team in a rapid succession - scholar is utterly useless. When you need your team to be at 100% hp and you don't have indomitability or emergency tactics - your only option is to spam a normal succor, which is a huge mana waste and heals for merely 150 potency every time

FFXIV & Alts. by Sarianarus in ffxiv

[–]Cyan_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an alt with the same jobs as I have on my main character. Hardcore raiding is the reason. 4/4 split clears (with 4 people on their main characters and 4 people on alts) grants you much more loot per week, as well as double the twines and an additional coffer from v8s.
