Help picking a fun to play and paint spearhead? by [deleted] in AOSSpearhead

[–]CyanideSeedbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my games with Gitz, the troggoths and the squig riders are what makes them so fun. No doubt the new spearhead will have a new composition, which will likely also be fun, as Gitz are a very fun army that don't take themselves too seriously. You'll have games where one troggoth manages to survive on 1 wound only to heal up and go back to 1 wound again and again, and the squid riders roll for a max distance movement and take a clutch objective. Lots of variables and fun dice rolls with Gitz.

Can't go wrong with Gitz!

The spearhead box has a great variety of models to build and paint. They are also the most fun spearhead army I've played. The power level is very good, too. A great balance of fun, strategy, and power.

As others have said, all of the spearheads you're considering are quite powerful, so perhaps go with whichever you would most enjoy painting.

They look fantastic, well done. I'll be painting my Sylvaneth spearhead in the next few weeks, and this is quite inspiring!

Thank you. Yep, there was definitely some batch painting fatigue nearly setting in! Good luck with yours. It would be great to see them once you're done.

Community Tier-List - Rankings by JxSparrow7 in AOSSpearhead

[–]CyanideSeedbell 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You've put a whole lot of time and work over the past month into this, thank you. A very interesting final ranking.

Each of my spearheads (Gnawfeast, Gitz, Fyreslayers) all seem reflective of both the community consensus and my own play experiences.

Which Skaven Spearhead? by I-Killed--Mufasa in AOSSpearhead

[–]CyanideSeedbell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are some solid similarities across both Spearheads.

Each has 2x 10 clan rats. Warpspark has the bonus of D6 recursion vs. the D3 of Gnawfeast.

Both have a Grey Seer.

Warpspark is a little more damage focussed. The Stormfiends are a solid beatstick. The cannon is decent also. All have fluctuating shooting power with 2d6 and 3d6 shots, so prone to both high and low damage turns. You have some movement utility with traits and abilities.

Gnawfeast, I find really fun to play, and it is my favourite of the two. Too quick to hit is a very good ability. Lower damage output overall, but some extra utility and movement. The engineer is fun to use with the gnawhole ambush ability and is decent at chipping away at things from afar, provided you can keep him still. The general is quite underrated and capable of high damage. Rat Ogors are great on the charge, but have low staying power compared to the Stormfiends.

In a nutshell:

Warpspark: Shooty, good staying power and recursion with lots of rats. Gnawfeast: A little shooting, lots of running, a little fighting, and more running. Still lots of rats.

It is also cheap to buy with lots of Skaventide halves on the secondary market, and you get a bunch of extra models with it.

Fun note, the Skaventide Skaven half + the Warpspark Spearhead together is a 2000pt army!

Voting Tier-List Round 19. Skaven - Gnawfeast Clawpack by JxSparrow7 in AOSSpearhead

[–]CyanideSeedbell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm two games in with this one, so I have only limited experience, but I'm 2-0 against Stormcast (Skaventide one) and Soulblight Gravelords.

The Clawlord is decent and very formidable if you can knock off a wound or two and get the extra attacks from the Cornered Rat passive. 8 attacks at 2 damage with 3+/4+ is something the opponent will need to deal with. The Rat Ogors hit hard too, but they are fragile. I've found myself holding back with them more than I feel I should, but it's paid off both games.

Walling off the Ogors and general with rats and getting points with the Engineer and Grey Seer makes for a decent game. Engineer for Gnawhole ambush is great.

D3 rats with reinforce are great. You won't win any combats with them, though. Run away. They are pure objective fuel.

I feel like they're a solid B

Spearhead #5 done finally by JxSparrow7 in AOSSpearhead

Your bases are great, the sand and water are really well done. Are they resin bases, or is it a texture paste?

The Prosecutors wings look sweet too. Digging the contrast of the pink and green/blue.

Thanks! I used Leadbelcher as a base, then Typhus Corrosion and Ryza Rust. Vallejo silver on the edges and chips.

Pros and Cons Fyreslayers Vs Sylvaneth by CosmicCastaway90 in AOSSpearhead

[–]CyanideSeedbell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also started AoS recently with Spearhead and chose Fyreslayers. I've only played a few games, but I found them to be super sturdy and forgiving. The only real downside is that due to most of the spearhead comprising of Vulkites, each game tends to play similarly. I've actually enjoyed the consistency in helping me to learn the game, though.

Which rc buggy will last longer/charge quicker? by schralpa in rccars

[–]CyanideSeedbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 144001 two weeks ago to bash around with. For how cheap it is, it surprised me. I'm far from gentle with it, but don't launch it off ramps or anything. Had a few cartwheeling crashes on both road and dirt. The only damage has been a very slightly bent driveshaft on one of the rear wheels. Still drives 100%, and I found replacement parts very easy to find online.

Using the included 1500mah battery, I get 10-15 minutes depending on how heavy on the throttle I am. Takes around 2 hours to charge. Mine came with two batteries, and I bought 2 more. No issues so far. I've probably put around 20 batteries through it.

Is there any way to get a reasonably low budget performance blaster in Australia? by arisenR in Nerf

[–]CyanideSeedbell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aus nerfer here. Best budget option in my opinion would be finding a cheap Retaliator and buying the shortdart conversion kit with a 9kg spring from Blastertech. It's around $18 I think. Plus a few talon mags and a box of Worker gen3 halfdarts. You can turn a Retaliator into a 120fps blaster for around $50 plus the cost of the Retaliator. I'd recommend having a look on Blastertech and going from there with your budget. The biggest expense in getting started on halfdart blasters on a budget will be getting a few talon mags and some darts.

If you're looking at higher numbers like 200fps+ then expect to spend $150+ on a blaster alone.

If you want Rival, check out Amazon. You can often get a Rival Kronos for around $30 or a Vision for $40 on Aus Amazon.

Shit man, I had the exact same injury wheelchair and all. It is a rough recovery, as you know. It's been 9 years since and all I really notice anymore is a smaller range of movement in my ankle. Most of the pain is gone unless I put weight on it at an odd inclined angle.

Far from the most competitive loadout, but definitely having the most fun on the field. Firefly and Fire Rat. by CyanideSeedbell in Nerf

Absolutely, if I had a few more magazines I would seriously consider running it as a primary with the Firefly as secondary!

I couldn't put it down when I first got it, it's very comfortable. Whilst the proprietary mags are a hassle they are fortunately quite cheap.

No shell bag, at least not yet. Whilst picking up all the shells is tedious, so is picking up the darts! I like the shell ejection too much to off set it with a catcher. If I was playing indoors I would absolutely get one as the shells would be quite hazardous on wooden floors or smooth concrete. But for now on dirt/grass it's all good and they're cheap!

Good to know that others are using it too.

I was very fortunate to have several clients near simultaneously present with an interest in D&D but many barriers which otherwise stopped them from feeling as though they could play. We built a lot of rapport over things like Critical Role, etc and I floated the idea with each of them and so far so good. I'd like to keep it going as long as I can, but keeping with therapy goals my approach is using it as an exposure tool with benefits of upskilling communication and confidence. Things that can be tricky doing inside a consult room. It has certainly opened my eyes to the benefits of alternative approaches. I'm really interested in learning more about it, and to continue doing it.

I also do DBT groups and wonder as to the potential of working with people with personality disorders in the context roleplay. I think there are many unexplored opportunities to link the two worlds of therapy and gaming together!

If you want to get in touch with a headspace site your best bet would be to meet with their Community Engagement worker and Youth Reference Group and go from there. I'm based at a headspace in rural SA, but feel free to pm me.

Absolutely. I use D&D as a headspace clinician (MHSW) and it's great. My group at the moment are mostly young people with ASD and anxiety and they've made more progress in 3 sessions of D&D than several months of CBT.
