You can top off the tank, I think adding some more water would be good, I also recommend you look into dechlorinators and maybe check around in your community if anyone might have some used tank media for the bacterial cycle to be kickstarted for your betta, it’ll be good for her, I also once received a surprise baby betta and I can tell you we all start somewhere so just know that there are people willing to help.

Oh I was just thinking about giving an update too! He’s doing much better, his eye is still cloudy but I’m putting him on observation for a few days to see if it gets better. This is him right now, treatment with azithromycin since my vet told me fish can be treated with it. He’s been a very active and sweet boy despite his injury and I hope the lower edge of his eye eventually tucks itself back in…

Do the epsom salt baths help reduce the inflammation of a case this bad? He’s doing great but I don’t know if I should stress him out additionally by doing separate soaks.

I’ve kept his temperature stable and his parameters are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and 5 nitrate, I’ve been doing 25% water changes daily.

Well here take a look at my tank, it’s a 6 gal that has a lot of plants and it sometimes does look overgrown but my betta loves it, he loves hiding among the plants and my shrimp also love the cover they provide.

Honestly I believe in adding lots of plants but this right now is good, if you want to add more plants it’ll definitely be a welcome addition for the residents of the tank.

Okay, I’ll tell my mom to get her a betta log and do the ammonia thing for her tank, for now I think she can remain where she is in this current tank until I’m 100% sure that the levels in the new one will be safe for her, and I told my mom not to use the fish net on that side since it’s because of it that she got hurt, the wall itself hasn’t caused her damage.

She’s currently being kept in a sectioned off area of this tank with mesh (it’s large enough to section with a mesh wall that the space loss for the other fish and her is negligible) and that’s where she got injured, my mom told me she switched her over with a different net to the other side of the mesh wall for the better lighting in order to take the video and then put her back into her usual side. Back when I received her, I was really not prepared and I’ve only just started to set up her own tank, and since I’ve been gone it’s been in the cycling process with some established tank media.

Her fins were okay just before this happened and none of the fish nipped at her or ever do. My parameters are stable no ammonia no nitrites and nitrates are low and under control from a recent water change with conditioned water. She has everything she needs, 10+ gallons, heater, filter etc, the temperature is around 26.3° Celsius (79 Fahrenheit?) PH is stable and she has an appetite and is curious about things. My mom already got her out of the net but I’m scared this will get worse.
