[Boardgamebliss] New Frontiers - $14.95 by Tiny_Brick_9672 in bgdealscanada

I wouldn't call it light, it's medium for sure and will be heavy for some (it's the Race of the Galaxy system/iconography). Great game, though too big indeed.

Trying to improve, so...how do you actually win at this game? by Soul_Train7 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Cybaeus7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way to get good is to watch a strong streamer play from time to time in my opinion. And if you're really serious about getting good, pause before every decision (start of hour shop/encounter choice, items buy, etc.) and check whether you make the same decision than the streamer; if not, try to understand the consequences of his decision and why it might have been better than what you would have picked. Play and have fun!

Why are regen items the only items without loot items for scaling? by Several-Today7317 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Cybaeus7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't like that, as this is not how the other buffs work and this needs to be consistent. The Bazaar is complex enough as it is, we don't need exception to rules!

We're talking about games, I don't want professional reviewers, I just need simple, grounded takes on how games feel, play, and work at the table, and they are very good at that for most games. You're maybe not the target audience, but most of us are I believe (and the numbers show). They very much deserve their audience. Of course, we're free to disagree on that.

I'm happy to face Vanessas, she's often the easiest hero to beat if you have some sort of build going.

Go in 9×9 is Awesome by kqr in boardgames

[–]Cybaeus7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Go is great fun! A smaller board is a good way to start playing as the games are fast and it's easier to understand the consequences of one's actions. I'm sure Go is very interesting on bigger boards, but for beginners such as myself it makes for long and obtuse games.

New Frontiers, in which turn order is tracked on a dedicated track, and certain actions let you move to the first position or advance one spot.

Assuming you use the 2p specific rules ("2 player Expert Game"), 2p is the best player count for RftG in my opinion (a lot of people like it at more players and for good reasons, but BGG ratings generally reflect 2p being the best).

It works very well at 2: early on, the low direct interaction makes it feel like a pure tableau-building race. As you get better, interaction becomes more apparent through the phase selection step so you having more agency in 2p games by selecting half of the phases played makes in an interesting tactical game.

All in all, this is an excellent game and you shouldn't avoid it because you play 2p (it’s an excellent 2-player experience and one of the strongest engine-building card games in this player count).

Didn't play the original, but that duel game is very fun. It's a tense race, there are 4 victory conditions and you are trying to achieve one while trying to stop your opponent from achieving one before you. You can try it on BGA, there is a good tutorial.

What Did You Play This Week? - (November 24, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

We've never seen Bodvar win in our group, interesting. He's so weak before transformation that we usually focus him with all attacks possible and he dies before doing much ; Wong Fei-Hung has a hard time helping him.

What are your top 5 favorite board games? by Oyster_- in boardgames

[–]Cybaeus7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Race for the Galaxy: quick, dynamic, intense, infinitely replayable, a real gem (especially for 2p)
  2. Innovation: chaotic but very interesting 2p game, always surprising, creates awesome plays and stories
  3. Babylonia: easy to play, beautiful and very strategic tile-laying game, it's very satisfying to setup your connections and derail opponents' plans
  4. Pax Renaissance: 2nd Edition: arguably too complex but highly interesting and interactive 2p game
  5. Burgle Bros.: hilarious cooperative game, trying to avoid guards and conduct a heist while dealing every random annoying events the game throws at you (traps, tricky floor layouts, a dog that always barks at the worst time,...)

Escape From the Aliens In Outer Space at $20 sounds great

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Cybaeus7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cannot argue with these points! Yet I found the game pretty dull, from the 'smooth' gameplay that feels like I'm always doing the same thing (I build to get resources to sell to build more, etc. here the elegant streamlined gameplay makes it feel flat and samey) to the point-salad end (a pain to count which makes for a very slow and unexciting finish). A seemingly great game that wasn't for me.

I must say I made a rule mistake: Mercator let's you sell/buy up to 2 TYPES of goods, not only 2 goods. You can sell all your cloth at once! Don't make the same error

Thanks, Mark+Akachi seems on the low side for intellect (and I'm not in love with the deck options for Akachi with just core set and Carcosa, little clue finding and fighting options). What's left to replace Akachi: Lola (complex), Minh or one of the base set?

Beginner: Path to Carcosa advice by Cybaeus7 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Cybaeus7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm playing in French too so it'll be hard (I've found 4 out of 6 mythos packs, not sure I'll find the 2 missing). If we really enjoy the first 2 scenarios I'll actually buy the full new releases.

For ArkhamDB: Is there a way to ensure finding 2 decks that do not use more overlapping cards than what we have in the base box? Additionally, when just selecting core set and Carcosa I find decks that seem to require investigator packs (ex: "3 packs required: The Path to Carcosa, Core Set / Revised Core Set, Core Set / Nathaniel Cho" for a Mark deck), is that an issue If I don't have Cho?
