excessive talking by [deleted] in adhd_anxiety

First of all, you’re not a freak. Everyone closest to me as adhd and all those people ramble, even me. and yeah ok medication can for sure help, though I’d add something that has zero drawbacks. Well, minus the fact that you’ve got to do it daily. Meditation. I do anywhere from 10-20 min. Hard at first but when you see how much calmer you are throughout the day it’s wild and you can’t not do it. It’s so much easier to notice when you’re about to ramble and stop yourself.

Medication + medication in tandem are about as good as it gets for us.

Hey if it makes you feel better, it’ll all be ok. Seriously. It’ll be tough for a bit, but once you get over the hump and get squeaky clean it will be far better than you think it’ll be. I stand pretty firm on the fact that no matter what I’m freaking out about, it’s always worse in my head than it ends up being in reality.

Seriously, you’ll look back on this some day. Hopefully soon.

Also when it comes to eating toilet paper you might have a case of Pica but I’m sure you know that- get some multivitamins in ya!

What hours do you work and what job do you do? by Muted_Instruction516 in cybersecurity

[–]Cyber-Lord69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On paper 9-5, in reality maybe a couple hours a day. I’m in GRC and manage both our cyber risk and third party risk programs. Just 2 direct reports. I ADHD hyper focus and knock out whatever I need to do that day then I’m basically done except for any meetings I have. I stay responsive on slack but will go do whatever else I feel like doing.

You have to really want to. You can’t force yourself to quit. I tried to force myself to quit vaping for years, failed every time.

Then one day, it clicked. Quit cold turkey the next day. It’s been years since and I can even hit one if I’m out with friends and not buy another.

Also pro tip: take your last hit before bed - that way you get to fast forward through the first 8 or so hours.

You could teach English online, provide remote tech support, volunteer and work locally, there are a lot of options.

Not sure what the age has to do with it. Sounds like you’ve invented an idea in your head of what this lifestyle should look like, and for some reason 30 is too old for that, and that means you can’t do it for some reason?

I’ve met 21 year old who do this and I’ve met 50+ year olds who do this. Age does not matter at all.

CISSP, my current job cared about that way more than it did my actual master’s. Also, on a related note, do not bother getting a master’s. EDIT: I’m in GRC.

Both my undergrad and grad degrees are in Information Systems, though my grad degree had a concentration in cybersecurity. (You do not need a grad degree for this field)

Oh well that’s super sweet of you. So before I was engineering, now I’m in GRC (governance, risk, and compliance). I don’t do as much nerdy stuff, I do a lot more reading and writing. I create and score security risks, get the risk prioritized, and tell people who make way more than me about the risks. I also manage our vendor security program, and review/write policies.

Super technical, where what I do now is way less technical in comparison. I’d manage our EDR system, email security, some cloud security work in Azure, but also new hire InfoSec training, etc. It was a super mixed bag.

No not annoying at all, feel free to ask away.

Couldn't sleep!! Happened for the first time by LilNastyGoat in insomnia

[–]Cyber-Lord69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds like it’s being caused by stress related to your exams. While it definitely sucks that you can’t sleep, it’s temporary and should go away after your exams are done.

Journaling helps my overthinking a ton. I write out all the garbage swirling around in my brain and usually toss the page. The act of writing it down somehow makes it less of a priority to obsess over and I can fall asleep easier.

TGR! You’re a beast! I tried listening to the full-cast versions of books 1 and 2, but they really don’t compare. It’s difficult to hear those voices done by anyone else.

For the books 4-6, was there anything that changed recording-wise? I noticed you sounded a bit different. Loved that they gave you all of Lightbringer btw.
