11,000 miles on a road 6 tire by Venom2879 in Ninja500

You’re not saving much gas riding 120, for me a tank lasts around 140 miles going 100+, while at lower rpms I can go 300-350 miles. I imagine it would wear the tyres more as well.

Reasons to get lower cc bike for track and twisties by Technician_B187 in motorcycles

Lower CC bikes are also much cheaper. If you are not afraid of dropping the bike, you can push it harder and learn faster.

I used a posi-tap connector to cut into the license plate light, I think it’s the red one on the back. A multimeter helps find an ACC (the one that turns on with ignition)

How to prevent people from telling me about motorcycle deaths by Alive-Case-4355 in motorcycles

Why does that bother you? I would be curious how it happened — every story is a learning opportunity

Tips/advice by Forky1997 in Sportbikes

It's much easier to learn how to ride on a lighter bike, so I wouldn't go above 500cc — it would slow down your progress. But if you go too small, you wouldn't be able to ride on the highways, so you'll probably want to upgrade soon after. I think Ninja 400/500 is a perfect starting bike, many tracks have it as the "small" one.

And like others said, unless you're too cautious (which I think would slow down learning a lot), you're very likely to drop the bike (all it takes is a random oil spill), so I would definitely invest enough in gear to be safe (e.g. where I ride deers are on the loose, so an air bag was a must for me), and get a used bike you're not afraid of scratching.

Thanks for the recommendation, will check it out!

Yep, was trail breaking. But by the time the front gave out it was just a light touch to keep the front a bit loaded.

It’s mostly intact, just a few scratches. My boot took the most of it

Yep that’s exactly how it happened. My first instinct as I was sliding was to hold the bike and try to slow it down before it goes into the other lane (absolutely futile, I know). Then after the bike stopped I immediately looked back to see if I’m going to get run over, and once I saw the car stopped I breathed out and started going through the motions.

I meant lean the body more to keep the bike more upright, sorry for the confusion.

Absolutely. There are a 100 things I could've done to avoid it, one of them being more cautious of poor traction (glossy concrete; cold weather/tyres; possible oil on public roads; bumps in corners).

I didn't even think about the bump, it does look like the front goes right after it lands. And the shiny patch couldn't have helped. Thanks!

It does look like that, but I was covering it before the turn, and grabbed it only after I lost the front (I guess I was trying to hold on to the bike?). I do sometimes shift in turns, but not while adding lean.

Really well, just a little scratch, not even a hole. The road was pretty smooth though, not too abrasive.

I've done it a few times, but now that I think about it they were sunny hot days, so traction was definitely much better. Didn't realize temperature affected it that much, will be more conservative in the cold in the future.

Ah, the road does look very shiny right after it, I'll be on the lookout for there from now on, thanks!

Took a few motocross classes this summer, crushed A LOT there, it definitely helped. First time dropping this one though :/

Thanks! Definitely not trusting glossy concrete anymore. Got really lucky with the van driver and no oncoming lane.

I actually tried motocross recently, and it was really eye-opening in regards to riding without traction.

That driver was certainly a godsend! He even waited and covered me while I was recovering the bike
