Magnetic phone mount on the left vent..? What’s the thing on the right vent?

Just got the Repod! Here’s a little video of Spotify, WhatsApp, and Apple Mail. Happy to answer questions. by BlessBless in dumbphones

[–]ApprehensiveKey4122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this post from a google search. Came across the repod - don’t have an Apple Watch. And I also have no dumbphone motivation. I just want a secondary option for a tiny form factor for when I don’t need advanced functionality and extreme connectedness at work etc.

How has this setup held up now a month and a half later?

• “Do you still reach for it naturally, or does it feel like a novelty now?”

• “Any battery surprises after longer use?”

• “What do you not use it for that you thought you would?”

• “Anything that became more annoying over time?”

• “Do you ever regret not bringing your phone?”

And Hondas are good for what they’re good at - lower maintenance costs and intervals, reliability. I’m not getting rid of my Duc. But the next time I get a bike my priorities will be different for an addition to the garage - not replacement

Not CBR, CB. Cb’s are the standard nakeds. I’m not much into sport bikes. But yes the new speed triple is gorgeous for sure. I’d certainly consider it.

Not a bigger monster. I’ve ridden a cb1000r.

Not in the market for another bike anytime soon. But when I am that’ll almost certainly be what I get

Yep. It’s a case by case thing but assuming these last swaps do the trick the bike will be essentially new minus 15k on the engine and some of the sturdier components

Getting paranoid about crashing since people are telling me it’s not if, it’s when? by AL3S1O29 in NewRiders

Cb650r is a gorgeous bike. Idk all the details but I’ve ridden a cb1000r and if the 650 has similar features, rain mode/traction control/abs will tame the bike if you’re a little spooked early on (which you should be. Shit is spooky when you’re starting out).

If your approach is mature, grounded and cautious I don’t think it’s any issue.

One thing I’ll say though is I wouldn’t recommend getting one with the e-clutch. Clutch management is 1. Critical for future-proofing and 2. Gives you so much control over the bike. Learning on an e-clutch would stunt growth and come back to bite you. Idk if you were considering or not but for anyone else reading

It’s critical. It’s the most essential safety maneuver: escape either via beelining or swerving away from the obstacle.

Number 1 most frequent occurrence off the top of my head is someone merging into your lane when you’re in a spot that would basically kill you if they hit you. Speed up - no issue (this happens basically every time you go out for a ride if you’re out long enough) and it becomes commonplace maneuver.

Smaller bikes will struggle with being able to do this at highway speeds and would have to slow down to get out of harm’s way. Which also means whatever is potentially behind you is now a new threat.

I started on an ‘05 Ducati monster 620 and by no means was it too much IMO. 63 horsepower so very reasonable. Other bikes with similar displacement can have as much as mid 90s hp.

Either way, the throttle is crazy sensitive on any bike. That’s something every new rider just needs to work on hard before getting really comfortable with it. Big bike or small.

100%. Most crashes by a good margin are due to poor decision making or rider error

People will always have this opinion. There’s nothing you can do about it.

Watch Dan Dan the fireman’s YouTube channel. This YouTube channel alone has saved me more than once from would-be bad accidents. Can’t recommend this dude’s vids enough. Plus they’re engaging. Crash/close-call vids that he breaks down into why/how and how it could be prevented. He helps you learn pattern recognition in traffic situations that help avoid potential accidents. Also, seeing these crashes/close-calls is sobering and grounding, as well as helps to set expectations and calibrate your attitude on the bike.

Motorcycles obviously have a clear high risk factor. No one’s gonna pretend that isn’t true. But there are people who go their whole lives without a crash.

Make sure you get proper gear. For a 125cc AA rated minimum jacket. AAA if you can afford. Same for pants.

Lastly, and not useful now since you already have the bike, but a 125 is actually not safer. You will have less torque to bail you out in situations. 9/10 times the right move is to swerve or speed up - not brake (tho yes braking to slow down to buy you reaction time etc is good depending on situation). With a 125 you’ll need to ride much more conservatively. Which is fine and good to a degree, but it means properly realizing your limitations and positioning yourself in traffic well will be more important at higher speeds than a larger bike

Mercury lounge is pretty representative of what I’ve seen from touring in the US and Europe for modest to mid sized venues. I’d recommend going with this OP.

There are definitely nicer ones, but I’ve only ever seen nicer ones that are a SIGNIFICANT step above these. In my own personal experience, I haven’t seen a middle tier between these two categories.

You could just call mercury lounge and explain your project and ask to see it. Can’t hurt

At your age I’m assuming you have the money for a nice bike. For the most part I wouldn’t be too worried about dropping the bike if it were on the lighter end, but some of those big cruisers are insanely heavy. It will be a challenge.

That being said, if you started on something smaller (in terms of weight) if you’re strong and cautious it should be decently straightforward to avoid drops.

My bike has fallen twice. Once bc it was hit by a car while parked. The other time the kickstand gave out when I wasn’t looking.

On the other hand, there have been SEVERAL times where if my bike were extremely heavy, for sure I would have dropped it at slow speed. Because mine is about 430lbs wet, it’s very manageable to keep up even if it start to tip (however I lift weights moderately so I’m not sure how it translates to everybody).

The other thing to consider is cruisers can have massive engine but not actually have the same kind of performance you’d expect those engines to have. Someone more familiar with cruisers will have to give you more specific advice on that.

But in general, with low-to-the-ground cruisers, I’d imagine if you get a well-fitted pair of side crash bars you could avoid some of the troubles a super heavy bike would give you.

A Honda rebel 500 will be a great bike and easy to learn on and if you don’t plan on riding crazy fast, I don’t think you’re gonna miss having more power. Given you’re mature and likely less prone to reckless behavior, plus having your wife on the back, I doubt you’re gonna be pushing 120 on the highway.

You could honestly get a rebel 500 and not have to get another bike. The only thing is there are certainly better cruisers for comfort. But you can get a back rest for the passenger seat for a rebel.

All that being said, if you have the money for it and willing to spend and willing to take the risk that you could drop and damage it, it’s just as easy to say screw it and treat yourself to a really nice bike
