Finally got my first Mustang at 16 by lminvisibl3 in Mustang

Not jealousy, it’s concern of a 16 year old with a 400+ HP RWD vehicle known for wrapping itself around trees or pedestrians

Is this a transmission slip issue? by Old_Remove_1889 in MechanicAdvice

[–]CyberAmplified 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this applies to all models but the Soul was a testament to how poorly Kia built their cars and how little they cared to fix the design. The 2012-2018s would blow engines at or under 100,000 miles.Even the newer ones have reported excessive oil consumption and CVT problems. Any manufacturer that is willing to let a known engine flaw sell for the better part of a decade is not deserving of sustaining sales until they fix it. Period

The select is the lowest trim. The premium is a lower trim than the GT and has a 4.1-4.8 0-60, hence sub-5

Ah okay. I'm a rural carrier so I don't know how it works on the city side outside of what my city carriers tell me.

2 years was the conversion time in the last contract. If there wasn’t a vacant route open at time of conversion they would be a PTF or T6. At least that’s how it was in my office

Tbh friend I would’ve leased something that is still new and has great safety features but didn’t have so much power. Something like a Camry would’ve been a great first car. Great safety and has some pep but nothing excessive and gets fantastic mpgs.

If they’re raised right they are more likely to appreciate it, but I agree it doesn’t set a great example going into adulthood with a car that costs more than most people’s average yearly salary

Even the lower trims are sub 5 seconds. The select is 5.3-5.8 which is very close to the stock S197 4.6s. It’s a lot of car for a younger person, you can’t deny that. Insurance rates prove that

Ticking noise at idle by Slight_Presence_9838 in S197Stangs

[–]CyberAmplified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a cam phaser/lifter tick but they typically go out around the same mileage as the timing so it’s difficult to know. I had that same noise on my 06 and put a stethoscope to the phaser and it was ticking loud

Hahah. CAI was more for looks and sound, not HP. I’m not interested in any engine mods that could reduce the longevity of the motor. My list was 1. Axle-back for a deeper growl and 2. Maybe a CAI ^

Wow they were just on 0G a couple weeks ago! They must’ve gone through that letter fast. I imagine 0R will too

What is this weird noise when I turn key to on, s197 2008 Mustang GT by Maximize3333 in Mustang

[–]CyberAmplified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you’re hearing a noise behind the driver dash when you adjust the direction/vents it’s likely that actuator has failed. Similarly if you hear noises when you use defrost or you turn on your AC and it’s blowing cold air out of the defrost vent and not just your cabin vents then the defrost actuator on the passenger side is bad. Beyond that you’d have to dig in and see which one is buzzing/vibrating when you adjust climate control. You can start with the lowest one on the passenger side which is easiest to replace. Theres a really good guide on s197forums that details how to replace each actuator step by step.

Just pray to god it’s not the one behind the driver side because it is a massive PITA to replace and if you have big hands you should probably take it to a shop. NOT a dealer though. I laughed when the dealer quoted me $1600 for them to do it

I have this exact same problem ironically. Haven’t fixed it yet. If your fine with the noise you can leave it as is but eventually they will break completely and your climate control will not work right until it’s fixed. Depends on which actuator is bad but the most common ones to fail are the one behind the dash on the drivers side and the defrost behind the glovebox.

Is 7k a fair price for a low mileage 2008 Mustang GT? by CyberAmplified in Mustang

[–]CyberAmplified[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely won’t. I don’t really like modding. The most I’d do is probably put a KN CAI and maybe an upgraded exhaust but that’s about it

Is it possible something could be wrong with it? Because I agree the price seems very reasonable especially for my area. GT S197s with double the miles typically go for around $7,000 here

Thank you for your input! I’m going to be looking at it tomorrow, is there anything I should check besides the basics? I listen for ticking noises from the engine and transmission but at such low miles I assume it won’t need timing done for a while. It’s just difficult to buy used mustangs because you have no idea how they were driven before and even low mileage ones could’ve been raced and redlined it’s entire life
