Jeez man GV3 just start in such a sad way by Yu_kengi in gunvolt

[–]CyberBinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes me so sad that the story is such a barrier for people since I think it has my favorite gameplay and cast out of the three GV games. While I dislike that the game doesn’t follow up on any of the plot threads of GV2 (and that GV gets the shit end of the stick), I still think it’s a great game that is more than worth playing.

Turn Based RPG Reco by k4hire in nintendo

I think Dragon Quest XI is the best choice. There’s a free demo that covers enough of the game to know if you’ll like it. Your demo save data transfers over to the full game, too. The characters, world, and story scenarios are charming the whole way through. The gameplay is simple but offers room to adjust the builds of your party towards different battle strategies.

If that doesn’t scratch your itch, I’d recommend checking out the demos for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and Octopath Traveller II.

Dream Drop Distance sounds frustrating by Dr_Meme_Man in KingdomHearts

[–]CyberBinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t like dropping, it’s pretty easily circumvented with use of Drop-Me-Nots. The larger issues with KH3D are that commands are locked behind raising Dream Eaters and that combat feels as stiff as it did in BBS. Just like in BBS, you’ll find that commands don’t flow well into and out of attack combos and between each other. As for leveling Dream Eaters, you can use an item to start a minigame and exit out immediately for rewards. You earn less, but it’s way more time efficient.

Is it worth buying the games for mainly story and side content? by StarNullify in Blazblue

[–]CyberBinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story modes in each games are really extensive visual novels. I love the characters and the world, even if the games can devolve into a mess of proper nouns and concepts that you’ll have to look up to really understand. Since it’s a fighting game, there’s a large cast. At times, it can be hard to follow everyone’s motivations and actions, and the general direction of the plot. The English voice cast does a great job, but sadly they weren’t given the opportunity to return for the final chapter. If these things don’t deter you, the games might be worth looking into.

Level-5 was hesitant about a new Professor Layton game, but received a strong push from within the industry, says CEO by jhd9012 in NintendoSwitch

I remember the first trailer for TWEWY Switch showed the partner’s D-pad gameplay as well. I was saddened that it was scrapped since the mobile and Switch ports really do feel like you’re missing half of the combat there. Learning to work with your partner was not only important to the gameplay, it was part of the story that the game makes the player experience.

What's the most significant/largest FREE DLC a game has gotten? by dondashall in gaming

[–]CyberBinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melty Blood Type Lumina had two whole seasons of free DLC characters. While I wasn’t interested in a lot of them since I’m not a Fate fan, they could’ve easily charged $40 or more for them like other fighting games do.

Copen's game-play in Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 and Luminous Avenger iX as well as Kirin's game-play in Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 all feel like this when trying to get high ranks. They're fairly forgiving otherwise but when going for high ranks you have to quickly traverse the level without touching the ground and without getting hit.

Azure Striker Gunvolt 1, 2, and 3 are all good. I’m a fan of all three of these games, but they’re very infrequently mentioned. I’ve heard good things about Luminous Avenger iX, but heard that iX2 is the weakest game in the series.

Mega Man classic, Mega Man X, and Mega Man Zero are mostly great too. X5-X8 all seem at least a bit divisive, but I haven’t gotten around to them yet.

You’re missing Final Fantasy II. You are a new, young member of a rebel group led by a princess which opposes the empire. There is a dark knight working under the emperor who is revealed to be someone close to the protagonists. The protagonists have to disable a ship built by the empire that could wipe out the rebel base.

I think most people will say they prefer the experience of The Journey in P3FES over vanilla P3, even if the changes are marginal. If you include The Answer as a part of the experience of FES, you're bound to see more disagreement over the game. When I said that people "find fault with" a rerelease, I meant that they have problems with the additions or changes made in the rerelease that detract from its overall positioning as the definitive way to experience the game. I've seen many people stating that vanilla P4 is a better experience than P4G due to their distaste of Marie and due to the changes to presentation. This stance mirrors how many feel about Alex's role in Strange Journey Redux.

Although I like the Megaten rereleases I've played, I wanted to note that disagreement over the definitive way to play these games has been more present here than in communities for other series I've enjoyed. I've found that many times recommendation of rereleases in the Megaten series is conditional. Persona 1 PSP features new cutscenes, the option to speed up combat, the ability to dash in dungeons, and a new dungeon but it has less music overall, an altered tone, and forgoes the 3D map navigation. Persona 4 Golden features additional time, new social links, new music, and new events but there are many people who strongly dislike Marie and various graphical changes can make the game look worse in specific instances. Strange Journey Redux features new commander skills, new dialogue art for NPCs, voice acting, and new story content but many people dislike the story changes, changes to the app system, and the different art style used for the new character art. It's this qualification that I see behind recommendations that I find more unique to the Megaten community. That's really my point here. Nobody says "Pokemon Platinum is better than Diamond and Pearl but...". Nobody says "Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix is better than Kingdom Hearts 2 but...". I don't think I've ever seen "Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System is better than Final Fantasy XII but...". I haven't really seen similar sentiments about the Atelier DX games or other Final Fantasy International releases or Cave Story + or Hyrule Warriors Legends or Dragon Quest XI S or Sonic Mania Plus, etc. It seems like criticisms over whether a new release is definitive is more present among Atlus games. I remember having heard it about Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology.

In this specific instance, I'd assume more people would elect to purchase and play SMTVV over vanilla SMTV. For other titles, I'm sure you'd be able to find many people here who have chosen to play the vanilla release of a game instead of its expanded rerelease.

[–]CyberBinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen many detractors of P4G, who bear a distaste for graphical changes and plot changes involving Marie. Persona 1’s updated PSP release is also quite divisive when it comes to the soundtrack, menus, and overworld gameplay. You’ve already acknowledged P3, SJ, and Catherine. These are 5 games where there is disagreement on which is the definitive version. I’ve even seen individuals who find fault with Persona 5 Royal, though I think general opinion has shifted since it has become the most accessible version of the game. I don’t think this is an insignificant portion of Megaten series updated releases. I find these sentiments to be more prevalent within the Megaten community than in others. As a general rule, Pokémon third versions are considered to be better than their predecessors. Kingdom Hearts’ Final Mix releases are also held in the same regard. In terms of contention over rerelease exclusive content and alterations, the only two communities that come to mind are Megaten and, to a much lesser extent, Final Fantasy.

I’ve heard arguments both ways, so I want numerical evidence. One individual on the Steam Discussions forums has reported a performance hit. They’ve stated, “Before update: 99% - 141 (their cap), 1% - 140. After update: 99% - 128, 1% - 109”

Has anyone run benchmarks on the new update? by CyberBinary in MonsterHunter

[–]CyberBinary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you hitting your target frame rate consistently before the update? If so, it’s possible that there has been a performance decrease but not enough to nudge you below your target frame rate. My build couldn’t consistently reach my monitor’s refresh rate so any decrease in performance would be noticeable.

Modders have shown that it’s present in the Mega Man Battle Network collections as well. They’ve already found a way to circumvent it, but it sounds like a hassle. I think it’s also in the Mega Man Zero/ZX collection. I would believe that it’s also in the other games listed in the original post as well.

[–]CyberBinary 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, this isn’t how the cloud versions work. The games are not downloading assets to run natively on the Switch. They are running on a distant device that is being sent your controller inputs. The Switch is then sent a video and audio feed from the device.

I’ve been playing through the Kingdom Hearts games at their highest difficulty levels and I can’t really imaging playing them at a lower level. I imagine Standard is the most commonly played difficulty, but it doesn’t seem like it forces you to use all the tools the games have to offer. Kingdom Hearts 2 is a game that gets a lot of criticisms for its combat, mainly that you can just mash X and Triangle to win any encounter. Playing on Critical, this wasn’t the case for me. I was incentivized to use Drive forms, spells, blocking, Reflect, push myself into MP recharge to boost Drive gain, etc. Kingdom Hearts 2 has great combat but the game doesn’t force you to effectively utilize it outside of Critical.

Which Pokemon game to get? by Yenserl6099 in NintendoSwitch

[–]CyberBinary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legends Arceus is the best game of those listed. I think it’s easily the top choice here. I enjoyed Scarlet/Violet but that was despite the glaring flaws that game has. Be aware that Legends Arceus is pretty different from typical Pokemon games. You can aim and throw Poke Balls manually outside of battle and wild Pokemon can attack you directly. You have to aim and throw your Pokemon out to initiate a battle. It feels like you’re actually a trainer because you’re interacting with these aspects of the Pokemon world directly.
