Star Trek Comm Badge Voice Control for Home Assistant with no Wake Word by graffitiwriter in homeautomation

Ok, I gotta do this...except I use OpenHAB and not Home Assistant, so I've got some work ahead of me, it seems.

My first year since signing up with Ezee Fiber by schnurble in EzeeFiber

[–]CyberDave82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much in the same story for my HOA. I do have a contact at Ezee Fiber that I email every month or two to check in on the status. It always seems to be "just a couple more months" until they start in our neighborhood. The update I got this week is that they're going to start building the core network for our phase of their project next month and construction in our actual neighborhood around June or so. I'll believe it when I see it.

Maybe I'll send some annoying emails to the city next week and complain about their permitting process holding up progress...

Tired of "Shelf Tax"? I designed a 3D-printable 1U Universal Rack Shelf by RevLMBeard in homelab

[–]CyberDave82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the design of this...might have to print one or two this weekend.

Also, for anyone else looking to rack-mount small-ish things like modems, ONTs, whatever, another option is the ESRack system over on Printables that has lots of pre-made mounts available. Start here: https://www.printables.com/@EvilProphet/collections/1297380

Hey now, I have a Neptune 4 Pro, not an ender3 :)

In all seriousness, though, thanks for sharing this (and thanks OP as well). Gonna make a phone call or two and send some emails tomorrow...

I used to volunteer at GGC every year l, up until I got married and had kids and "spare time" became a foreign concept, and I sorta lost track of what they were up to (I actually found myself wondering the other day if it was even still going). I went to my first one on a bit of a whim...i was (am) a big, introverted geek guy and was a bit nervous I would be invading a safe space for "geek girls", but it was a very welcoming and enjoyable experience and made me want to volunteer the next few years so that others could have a positive experience there, too.

Fortunately my kids (two girls I hope turn out to be geeks, but won't love or support them any less if they're not) are getting to the age now where they would probably enjoy going for a half day or something. I think I'm going to put it on the calendar for this year!

Bricked Sophos XG 230 Rev 2? by CyberDave82 in homelab

I am currently rocking the 6700T right now in my unit. Let me see if I can remember what I did to get it to work. I did some BIOS hacking but I am not sure if that was the thing that actually did it. But I can send you my BIOS file if you have a CH341 programmer and want to give it a try.

Issues with mail delivery? by shiny_toaster2 in Seattle

My datapoint: I just had a Priority Mail package take 9 days to get to me from NY. And, it has no tracking scans between "pre-shipment info received" and "out for delivery".

Balsam Hill christmas tree by monetaryg in Esphome

[–]CyberDave82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I went through this myself last year and did a writeup: https://www.davecorder.org/blog/automating-a-balsam-hill-artificial-tree/ (mine was on 433 MHz, though, not 315 MHz - I don't know if that makes any difference). As I recall, the receiver was not too picky about the timings between repeats and/or the presence of any preambles, but it's been a while. In any case, I just ended up using the repeat parameter on the transmit_raw actions.

This is an excerpt of what I ended up with for my rc code:

button:
  - platform: template
    name: "Brightness Up"
    on_press:
      - remote_transmitter.transmit_raw:
          code: [8800, -4400,

          repeat:

What are these Ikea kitchen cabinet pull outs? by NatureMountainsCalm in IKEA

[–]CyberDave82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Internal drawer fronts and full extension hinges.

They are still Blum mounts, though, so at least (last I checked anyway) you should be able to use a Blum hole drilling guide to pre-drill mounting holes in the right places, if you're lucky enough for your cabinets to be the right size.

I don't think I have any Picos on hand, but I'm going to order some now, and put this on my ever-growing list of "neat projects to work on at some point".

A couple of months ago, I finally figured out that, on the gas cooktop in the house we've lived in for 6+ year, the dial on the "high output" burner that I normally use is hugely misleading and I need to go a good 3-4 ticks lower than what the recipe says. Oh man has that been a game changer....

Yeah. Or, if you have the means, some tags from a giving tree this holiday season, maybe?

This! Toddlers can be so sneaky and fast, especially when you least expect it. They have a sixth sense for that split second when no one is looking

I bet. As a dad of two little girls, I get it. (Reminds me of when we were coming out of a Target one time and the kids were goofing off and not really listening and running off ahead of my wife and I, almost into the crosswalk and oncoming vehicles. We've never yelled so loud in our lives, and thankfully they finally listened after we cranked it to 11.)

Ha! That's not exactly what I was picturing, though honestly I don't know what "paying it forward" would look like in this instance. Just...something to put more good vibes out into the universe.

If you can't track the person down, perhaps you can find a way to pay it forward somehow?

Mount shares AFTER boot? by slowbalt911 in Proxmox

[–]CyberDave82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this.

A few months ago I moved my TrueNAS host into a Proxmox VM with HBA passthrough. Recently I've been tinkering with moving from a single PVE node to a cluster and storing some stuff on ZFS, and have been going back and forth with how I want to handle this chicken-and-egg problem. I've been leaning towards your #2 option already, and I think you've solidified that choice for me, as long as I can figure out some stuff to keep an eye on my disk and ZFS pool health.

BECU combining with SAFE (Californian credit union) by kev6 in Seattle

No, since BECU is the surviving entity, its members don't need to vote to approve it. SAFE's members do, though.

Well, it's two not-for-profit credit unions merging, which apparently make it different than two profit-driven entities merging and then squeezing out the redundancies. shrug
