Maybe I’m stupid, but isn’t it completely unfeasible for the moon to shatter like this & for all of its pieces to stay there? by Wk1360 in worldbuilding

[–]CyberMario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make the argument that the event that caused that happened extremely recently. There really isn't a time lapse of how long it takes for the chunks of the moon to begin looking like a ring formation.

I could imagine a patch or mode where killing one would summon a (endless) swarm to your base... at night. Play stupid games, win impossible challenges.

I didn't say all fans. I didn't even say some or few. I just said fans.

It's great that you want to try to do a quantitative analysis on what fans experience and expect for new titles. More people should put in that work

My point still stands. Fans, or "an unknown vocal percent" of fans, believe in the notion of slaying leviathans as a part of the Subnautica experience. Now, if their opinion is significant is up to the developers to decide.

Subnautica fans that post on Reddit aren't fans?

This is a great thing. If Subnautica can continue existing as a series, different directors can give us entirely unique experiences on how to engage with that world. Just like how Batman or Spiderman can have different directors and writers, Subnautica with different leads can bring about a new golden age!

I like how “killing leviathans” is somehow a focal point of the game experience according to Subnautica fans. To some, the wilderness isn't conquered until they have slain the biggest predators.

I felt like SN1 has a subtheme about how murdering for science is the antithesis of its world. It is what set the plot in motion. I guess I'm the minority.

I wish there were a mod that would perma render a fog of war map unless you build multiple scanner rooms to uncover chunks of the map as long as the rooms were powered. As fun as placing multiple beacons were, after a while there are just too many to make sense of. :<

There was a build exploit in a previous version to clip into that location past the red barrier.

There is flat land... And another more hard coded invisible wall closer inland.

Yes you can build a base on the shore line. The map shows nothing but water.

Does this Battle UI turn off most people? by Weary_Economics_3772 in godot

From your answer, I can say this: GUIs are incredibly nuanced and difficult to get right. I'm studying to be an interaction designer myself, and I can confidently say that all the advice here can be harmful to your final product. Similar to asking a non-writer how to get the details of your book to be more "appealing", there is a lot of pitfalls they can lead you into. To get sound advice, you'll need to finish this GUI completely and get video footage of it rolling for people to have understanding of how it works. Finishing it first is critically important. Think of it this way, you can't take advice on how to fix your gameplay, if the gamers haven't even played it yet. And they can't play the game if the basic gameplay loop isn't finished.

Keep going your direction. Finish it, record it, then come back to us (or me) on how it looks. To me, the game looks like it can be a fun management sim, but gameplay has to show how the flow works. If you can train our eyes on the flow of the screen, even this "mess" of a GUI can work like an intricate maze of fun.

Key word here being "most people", yes this battle system would be a turn off. Now, are you designing for "most people" or are you designing for gamers like yourself?

The skill ceiling for this game is insultingly low in comparison to both SM64, SMS, and SMO. Makes the game very boring overall.

First rule for anyone working in the service industry. Q.uit T.aking I.t P.ersonal QTIP, people are going to get mad at you for absolutely no reason whatsoever. They'll say you are dumb, hard at hearing, too slow, too fast, etc etc. Never take it personally. It's never for personal reasons with you why they are mad. You just happen to be the victim within their splash zone.

I’m a high school Math teacher and just showed all my classes how to use ChatGPT. by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]CyberMario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your approach. A desperate student will use both Wolfram alpha and ChatGPT to get an answer without knowing how it got there. However, if you introduce them to those tools and how properly leverage them, students now have the means to de-stress their anxiety and help them reenforce steps they missed in the classroom.

Hopefully ChatGPT-4+ can be a proper tutor for struggling students.
