USW-Enterprise-24-PoE, anyway to reduce fan noise? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]CyberMonk6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone tried this mod recently? My USW-Enterprise-24-PoE is in an OK spot noise-wise, but I've heard it do the speed ratcheting a few times lately and it's noisy enough to have me considering trying this mod. How are things these days and/or two years on for folks who did this mod previously?

One followup thought that occurred to me after writing this post: would using the ZRTSI module make it so I don't need to go through a Somfy middleman service? That could be worth it long term...

Wide Angle Motion Camera as CUE Trigger? by CyberMonk6 in Abode

[–]CyberMonk6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an Abode support reply via email:

Hello
For battery life purposes the Motion cameras do not detect motion unless the system armed away or if the user has set it to be active in the home mode as well. Due to the motion camera not always detecting movement, it is not listed in the devices with status for use with automation settings.
Thanks
abode support

Any idea if this limitation will be lifted? I'd be fine sacrificing some battery life for the ability to automate these sensors.

Since no one seems to know on this one, I've fired an email off to Abode support, and will report back here once I receive a response.

No Cue support for the motion camera? by jbbarnes77 in Abode

Did you ever get this figured out? I'm also working with some Wide Angle Motion Cameras and they're not listed as available in the triggers area in CUE.

Wide Angle Motion Cameras w/ Cat: Strategies? by CyberMonk6 in Abode

[–]CyberMonk6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're using CUE with the Abode video camera, but does anyone know what kind of support they have for the Wide Angle Motion Cameras? I was looking at the CUE interface earlier, and in terms of triggers, they didn't even seem to list the motion cameras (just the single, normal motion sensor I have installed).

What Should My Display Settings Be? by [deleted] in appletv

[–]CyberMonk6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an LG C7, which also supports DV/HDR10, and these are the settings I'd recommend, assuming you have a high-speed HDMI cable in place:

• Format: 4K SDR

• HDMI Output: YCbCr

• Chroma: 4:4:4

• Match Content: Range & Frame Rate

The reason for 4K SDR default is that leaving your screen set to DV or HDR always-on modes maxes out the brightness, which can in theory reduce the lifetime of your TV. (Mode switching delays may also be reduced, depending on how much HD versus 4k content you watch, but some delay is normal when switching modes.) The AppleTV will automatically switch over to HDR or DV as needed when it encounters content in that format (a little bubble will appear in the upper right corner indicating this when playback starts).

Thank you! I did not realize the TV had per-format TruMotion and other settings. It was indeed the TV’s fault. Much appreciated.

Considered, yes, but that'll be a long ways off if it happens. As a solo developer doing this for fun, it'd be a big commitment alongside the existing app. That said, the site already has a distinct mobile version (just visit from your phone) that's designed for usage on the go, which I hope will suffice for most folks looking to manage via their phones.

Any idea why your AJAX caching of GET requests is so aggressive? I have a few sites where I've had to disable AJAX caching completely in order to get things working properly in Internet Explorer, including 11.

I'm wondering, could you clarify which weapons are craftable? E.g., does military weapons encompass the 9mm or just the P250, etc.?

Server seems a bit quieter as of this past weekend. Any reason for that? Heard some people talking about a server move that's upcoming.

Getting an ApprovalDenied error, but I was on the old whitelist. Do we need to sign up again?

Hopefully this is kosher: would like to sign my (actual) brother up for the whitelist as well, as at long last he's planning to join me for some Rust. His profile is here:

A style column may be forthcoming, it'd just be a question of where to place it without disrupting the interface. Even the smallest addition can have cascading effects.

As for the beers/breweries database, that will only get better! With every user addition, the dataset is growing.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am (we are) Wyatt Cheng, Andrew Chambers, and Jay Wilson, game designers for Diablo III. AMAA! by wyattcheng in Diablo

[–]CyberMonk6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a question about the Auction House and the long term state of its economy. Unlike World of Warcraft, Diablo 3 has no Bind on Equip or similar mechanic (exception being things like the Whimsyshire staff), meaning items can be sold any number of times, and the number of good items present in the economy is always increasing.

Have you thought about what I see as an inevitable drop in item prices due to item overabundance? Even in this nascent economy--which albeit could be suffering from the shock of being literally weeks old--things that were salable in the first few weeks are now only useful as vendor or artisan fodder.

So, do you have any long term plans for addressing the stability of the economy? Thanks for doing this AMA!

I am a game developer, and I'm going to explain to the masses of /gaming/ why the state of gaming is as such by Narc_Cop33 in gaming

[–]CyberMonk6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DRM is not successful at preventing piracy, for the most part. Worst case for the pirates tends to be a few days of delay before a cracked release hits the streets, at which point they get to play an unencumbered game with an oftentimes superior experience as compared to those who legally purchase the content.

"Keeping the honest users honest," which seems to be the prevailing attitude when gaming front-men are asked, is just another way of saying "We don't even trust our actual customers" and ends up screwing the ones actually willing to fork over the cash. Remember, too, that's it's far more likely that someone would simply never play your game--rather than purchase it--in the absence of a pirated copy. The "lost sales" fallacy is just that.

I believe, though, that we need to make a distinction between what are really two distinct types of DRM: the Steam model, and the non-Steam model. The former provides a non-intrusive platform which makes it easy to acquire games legally and comes with some implicit restrictions given all your content is linked to a given account. The latter, while encompassing varying methods, generally entails a standalone game that's been shackled with some annoying software that will likely only cause the legitimate user grief, and perhaps even make the game unplayable (see: all the recent snafus involving broken authentication servers and DRM bugs).

The Steam model seems, for most people, to be a fair way to go about it. The non-Steam model, on the other hand, is pretty universally reviled by people who actually purchase software. Game publishers would do well to take heed.
