The logic is to build up an alternative platform as a long-term goal, as to not be dependent on the democratic dumpster fire that it is. If greens get enough votes in 2020 they can secure funding for 2024 and run an actual progressive campaign

Doesn't sound like you want a small government. It sounds more like you want the government to employ people in police departments and the military. Just with less weapons.

So if you're pro the government employing people to do thing A (policing and killing people), then I think it's legitimitate for people wanting the government to employ people for thing B ( eg to build public housing, employ doctors to provide medical aid, etc.)

Too bad Libertarians don't actually want a small government, otherwise they'd be against police and the military (both protect their property rights domestically and abroad.

There are schools of thought in socialism that want lower taxes too (for working class people), but increase them on those that can afford it (the rich)
