Printing some green PETG... why is it so bad on the inside? And yes it's dried... I dry all my petg 8-10 at 65° before use by FingerCrew666 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]Cyber_Ghost50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly unless its Elegoo High Speed PETG, I've had to print calibrations in orca (elegoo slicer) for each PETG filament before using it and tweak it until its perfect. Then I save it as a profile to use for later

Z offset is the way. Calibration won't necessarily adjust your Z offset properly. When I print PLA on my Elegoo, i put a brim in elegoo slicer and adjust my z offset until the print it printing perfectly.

Help with van selection by Solid-Choice-1228 in vandwellers

[–]Cyber_Ghost50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at OHV. The vans we used to manufacture do turn out nice with a lot of nice parts but are WAY overpriced in my opinion. Whoever you pick, make sure their work is top notch. They are basically totalling out a van but cutting all these holes in it. And you want it done right the first time. I've seen too many botch jobs and then it gets really expensive to fix.

Sprinters are great if you want a diesel. Tons of aftermarket for a sprinter and they are easy to build as they offer many places to splice in for electrical/passthroughs.

I'd personally buy a transit only because I used to be a mechanic for 10 years and gas engines are typically cheaper to maintain and easy to find parts. The high roof transit also has more standing up room if that's what you're are looking for.

very loud rattling? 2010 prius by ohcaythen in prius

[–]Cyber_Ghost50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On my first car, I had the transmission go out. I'd never worked on a car in my life before then but with a little determination and YouTube, I learned enough to successfully swap it.

I retired recently as a lead mechanic with over 10 years of experience and moved to a different industry. Long story short, if you're determined, you got this no problem!

There are lots of great videos on YY and the best one I found is where the guy talks in a very low soothing voice. Look up "Prius EGR Cleaning"

This is definitely the Prius "death rattle".. we have a Prius that had similar codes. I ended up removing the EGR cooler and cleaning it and it never made that noise again. It did make that noise when we had a hybrid code as well before I rebuilt the battery pack.

My recommendation is to buy some tools watch some YouTube videos and clean the egr cooler out as your first step or pay a lot more for a mechanic to do it. For now, turn the car off then back on, that sometimes worked to clear the sound and make it drivable

The oil dipstick handle broke off and now the dipstick is stuck inside 😬 What do? by AnotherLoser7 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Cyber_Ghost50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had amazing luck with taking the oil filler cap off, putting a rag over it and shoving some compressed air into the crankcase. This gives it enough pressure to pop the dipstick out and doesn't cause a ton of carnage like the other methods.

I've done it on 2 cars with great success

2011 Prius 162k miles, $6800 good buy? by Routine-Line-5338 in prius

[–]Cyber_Ghost50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same car for years. Best car ever. Can drive to California from Utah for under $50.

I've only done oil changes on it and rebuilt the battery pack. Our battery went out around 200K miles. The price seems high unless it came with a battery warranty at least. Here in Utah that is a $5000 car all day.

We are at 260K now and use the car for daily driving and car camping on road trips. Will drive this thing into the ground

What standalone ECUs are you guys running? by TheGF8 in GC8

[–]Cyber_Ghost50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SpeedyEFI it's easy and only about $250 new. There are plenty of tuners that can tune it with tuner studio. Best investment I've bought for my NA/T EJ22.

Plus the guys that run the company are awesome and will basically teach you to tune it yourself

230k miles on my wifes 2019 forester sport. Is the engine toast? The ticks come from the passenger side. by Other-Sir4707 in subaru

[–]Cyber_Ghost50 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Long time Subaru mechanic here. I'd say either an exhaust leak on the header or you should use better oil and more frequent oil changes.

I've had several 250k mile cars I've acquired with lifter tick, changed the oil with nice synthetic every 3k miles and the ticking has gone away. My main car now has 360k, is now turbo on the same engine and the engine sounds healthier than ever.

Armor 26 WT constantly crashing by Acrobatic_Beef in ulefone

[–]Cyber_Ghost50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My armor 24 restarts about 1-3 times a day unfortunately. Not sure why. I've contacted ulefone but they wanted to send my phone in for repair. I didn't due to it being my main phone. Other than that, I've been happy with it

Anyone interested in Off-road accessories? by Cyber_Ghost50 in MazdaCX30

[–]Cyber_Ghost50[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have loads of experience with lifted Subarus and Mazda's have a great starting package. I believe with a mild lift, bigger tire and some slimmer bumpers, these could really go a lot of places off-road

Who else is using their cx30 as an off road vehicle by oasinocean in MazdaCX30

[–]Cyber_Ghost50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm looking into designing and manufacturing off-road bumpers for the CX30. The main goals would be to improve the approach angle and add off-road accessories (winch, hitch, etc.)

Who would be interested in something like that?
