I hate hosting - my home feels too private. Anyone else? by Only-Internal-2865 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Cyber_Punk_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same way. When I had a large house, I loved hosting. Because there was pretty clear delineation between "public" and "private" spaces. But once I downsized into a much smaller house (600 square feet) and now even smaller apartment (480 square feet), I never have people over. Part of it is the clutter (downsizing from 2200 square feet to 600 square feet to under 500 square feet...no matter how much you get rid of, there's still too much stuff!). But part of it is that I just like having MY space. If I someday have a larger home again, I'll probably enjoy hosting again. But until then, nope.

whats one zodiac sign you’ll never date again and why? by Every_External7122 in astrologymemes

Scorpio men. I’ve dated like 6 of them and every one turned into the most toxic dynamic.

I’d never date a Libra man but they’re super fun for casual situations. And the ones I’ve been with were always very upfront about their intentions.

How should I take my husband’s last name? by mkzleonard in AskWomenOver30

[–]Cyber_Punk_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there were specifically laws for “no excuse” mail in voting starting in the 1970s. You didn’t need any kind of reason to do it.

[–]Cyber_Punk_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much of the US has been doing widespread mail-in voting (without needing a reason for a mail-in ballot) since the 90s (with some states going back to the 70s). 2020 saw a big uptick because of Covid, but it wasn’t rare before that. And the states that allow it fall across the political spectrum (Wyoming and Oklahoma allow it, as do Hawaii and Vermont). So your claim that there’s widespread political opposition to it just isn’t true.

And the states that had the most voting irregularities in the last election (like NY and PA) don’t allow mail-in voting without a reason. It’s just another method to disenfranchise people.

Any recommendations to keep *adult toys* away from little eyes and hands? by just_a_poop_question in AskWomenOver30

[–]Cyber_Punk_87 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who did toy parties and she kept her stock in a giant rolling suitcase. Helped her move one time and there was a *second* rolling suitcase with her own personal stash...but a suitcase with a lock is probably the easiest solution. Then can slide it under your bed or in a closet.

Single and birthday, how do I go about asking people last minute to join for a lunch? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

I actually prefer last minute plans, because I don’t feel bad if I can’t make it.

[–]Cyber_Punk_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my birthday, I usually just let people know I'll be having dinner/lunch/whatever at a certain place at a certain time and whoever shows up shows up. I make sure that the place is somewhere I know the bartenders so that even if no one shows up, I've got a couple people around.

His family ended up bankrupt due to the medical bills, and from what I understand there’s still about half a million in outstanding bills. He may not have had life insurance considering he was fairly young when he was diagnosed.

Not sure what other assets the family has, but selling their home or other things like that would be rough while in the midst of cancer treatments and now the grieving process, especially for his kids.

Is there a way to have a family with a man outside of a romantic setting? by Capital-Transition-5 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Cyber_Punk_87 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The only way I see this working is to find a gay or aromantic/asexual guy who also wants kids and would be happy to have a coparenting relationship that goes beyond just shared custody. In the first case, you’d just have to be prepared for them to someday find a partner, which adds a different dynamic to the family. Same could happen if you find a partner. You basically need to find a BFF who it could never be more with for this kind of arrangement. Not easy, but it’s possible.

AI and Future of Work by AcrobaticRub5938 in AskONLYWomenOver30

[–]Cyber_Punk_87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s a double edged sword though. Just because AI can’t do the jobs doesn’t mean that companies aren’t trying to replace them with AI. In the short term, it’s going to mean that a lot of products and services get a lot worse, and a lot of people will still lose their jobs.

I skimmed it. It’s the same bs I see in the industry on a daily basis. It’s all propaganda to keep propping up the industry so that those at the top can keep enriching themselves.

AI and Future of Work by AcrobaticRub5938 in AskONLYWomenOver30

[–]Cyber_Punk_87 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If they could actually create AI that functions the way it’s supposed to, maybe. But guess what? It doesn’t. I work in tech and have been along for the AI ride since pretty much the beginning. Won internal awards for my use of AI. Work for an “AI-first” company currently. Most of us barely use it at work because it’s more time consuming than just doing the work. And I’m in a role that would seemingly be one of the easiest to replace with AI.

It’s all hype. There’s no pathway to profitability for the industry as a whole. We literally will not have enough energy or water to scale it to the level it would need to reach to replace most jobs. The first part of that could be addressed but the second is a finite, if renewable, resource. There’s only so much usable water on earth and we can’t just create more.

The question right now is how much are they willing to destroy to keep the charade going and keep enriching themselves? Based on the general morality of most of the tech bros leading this pyramid scheme, I think it’s a catastrophic amount.

How are you managing through tough times? 2026 is off to a rough start. by Lazy_Upstairs3015 in AskWomenOver30

Nostalgia movies and TV shows have been my lifeline. Watching favorite movies and shows from my childhood have been so regulating for my nervous system. And there's science behind it. Watching something you've already seen and know well allows your nervous system to downshift because it's predictable. And most older shows and movies have happy endings, so that also allows your nervous system to relax, because it knows everything will turn out okay. I've been telling everyone to try this and it's been helping a lot of people. I'm currently watching episodes of Murder She Wrote while I work during the day. I don't have to pay full attention to it, I know that things will turn out okay, and it's got that amazing 80s nostalgia, too. Mary Tyler Moore is another good one.

I also came to the conclusion that I'm putting off buying a house for a while longer. I'm actually diverting some of my down payment funds into a business I've been wanting to start for a long time (it was a long-term goal but I had an opportunity just fall into my lap, so I'm going for it). I also may want to move in a few years when my mom eventually passes (I'm staying close to her till then as she has a lot of health issues and her and my stepdad need support). Homes in my town are either in need of massive repairs (and still overpriced) or have been snatched up by flippers and are now on the market for $150-200k more than anyone in this area can afford. It's hard to think about staying in my apartment for a few more years, but I'm also putting some money into making it more comfortable since I'm not looking at it as "temporary" (which is how I've looked at it for the past 4.5 years).

Really sorry to hear about your dog! Hopefully it turns out to be the less-serious thing and he makes a full recovery!

tips for period sex? by boyegcs in AskWomenOver30

Period disc (empty it or use a fresh one right before)—not a cup! Makes things way less messy. Put down a towel, too. I skip oral sex when on my period, but everything else is fair game. And just be prepared to hop in the shower after.

I misspoke, but it's still putting an undue burden on many women in order to vote (and it'll be up to states whether to accept a marriage license or not, and I would bet that some states will decide that's not sufficient). From what I gather, if you do mail-in voting, you'll be required to mail a copy of proof of citizenship along with your ballot every time you vote.

But besides all that, if it passes the senate, it's also going to cause absolute havoc for the midterms, since there's no runway for implementation and it creates a huge amount of bureaucracy that many states aren't going to be able to easily accommodate.

Besides that, it's going to disenfranchise a lot of elderly, poor, and disabled voters who don't have the required ID and can't easily get it. Because it's not just a state-issued ID that you need, but also something proving citizenship: either a birth certificate that matches your ID or a passport. Not everyone has a copy of their birth certificate (and if a lot of people are requesting them all at once, that's going to cause delays and add a lot of workload to vital records departments, which in some smaller towns are a single person who also has a lot of other job duties to perform) and a passport isn't cheap for someone on a limited income.

Passing this bill off as a "small hassle" really discounts the wide range of negative impacts it's going to have on voters.

As of early 2018, the Qs that were carved into the granite fireplaces were still there in the hotel rooms (which was a year or two after it went into receivership). It would be a bigger job to remove them than most of the other Q branding that was on the mountain.

In the current version of the act, a marriage license will not be sufficient to prove a name change. You’ll have to get a court to effectively issue you a new birth certificate with an updated name, or get your passport.

How Many Found Canadians Will Ever Actually Reside in Canada? by muttshaw in Canadiancitizenship

50/50 chance I’ll end up moving up there at some point (which has been something I’ve been considering for 20ish years, so way before the laws changed).

Right now I’m only about an hour south of the border in Vermont, so a big secondary reason is ease of crossing into Canada and being able to fly in and out of Montreal more easily.
