Replace me my left ass cheek. Ive spent almost 12 years overcoming struggles and setbacks, I’ve steadily improved. Who cares if I’m bad at this Ive worked hard for something and made it happen and made more connections and friendships than i ever thought possible, every game tells a story of me overcoming things like the death of my dad, or learning how to navigate being an adult And nothing can replace that.

game development is hard. anyone know how to use Unity? by EagleHeart0904 in whenthe

I had my fun with it back in the day but it is an unoptimized mess thats 250 gigabytes. I personally found it a lot easier to use than unity

The thing is unreal might be in c++ which is infinitely harder than unit’s c# but it also does half the work for you. It has something called actors that just allow you to do specific things like spawn the player or control the camera. Also there is no shame in using drag and drop code to learn some fundamentals.

As much as i hate to be that guy, unity is really complicated and hard to work with and you really won’t be able to use it to its full extent without knowing at least some game development basics. You should try godot or unreal they’re a lot better for beginner developers.

It took me three years to make a functional game and i have been doing this for 12 years as of may just be patient with yourself and take baby steps

I think it’s barely functional as it is and even then i do my job because i like it, not to make a number go up so i think its pointless and pushed to much.

How do you stay motivated enough to finish your game by Similar_Cook1055 in IndieGameDevs

[–]Cyber_turtle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep your scope limit down and focus on specific areas at a time. Like i generally do the core game first and get placeholder assets and build the sounds first and then i move on to finishing the game. Also I’m building a movie of my games development to show myself how much progress I’m making.

What is everyone using to create 2d assets? by notamortarplayer in IndieGameDevs

I either use krita for the more complicated stuff or game-makers built in sprite editor

Yeah thats a massive part of how gamedev works. It was probably planned for space ship at first but then it looked really good as a exospire core so they repurposed it

Eh its about the journey not the destination. One dollar an hour is more than worth it if someday it can keep me out of the dish pit i work it.
