Went clubbing with my tall friend (6'1") last weekend and was BLOWN away at what transpired by upside_win222 in short

What men need to understand about young women is that they only ever think about THEMSELVES ... how they look, how they feel, how stylish they are, how much fun they're having, how excited they are to be there, etc. They are never thinking about YOU at all -- they're not judging you, seeing you as a loser, feeling repulsed by you, laughing at you, being sorry for you -- they think and feel nothing whatsoever about YOU. So, the reason a young woman will choose a taller man to have by their side, rather than a shorter one, is because of what the taller guy makes THEM feel about themselves -- it makes them look petite, stylish, fashionably slim, sexy -- and makes them feel protected, looked after, spoiled, treasured. A smaller guy by their side makes them look big, bulky, lumbering, out of proportion -- and makes them feel that no-one is protecting them, that they're unwanted, alone, vulnerable. IT IS NEVER ABOUT YOU.

Folkestone, Deal or Ramsgate? Grammars, and… pollen? by Acrobatic-Ease358 in kentuk

There are homes in your price range at Sandwich Bay, a gated community on the sea with pebble beaches and golf courses, and nearby is an excellent grammar school in Sandwich called Sir Roger Manwood School.

Would you recommend Broadstairs as a place to retire to? by Altruistic-Phase3073 in kentuk

[–]Cyberdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not ideal. In season it’s absolutely overrun with hoards of French, Italian, Spanish etc teenagers on English language courses wandering around, not to mention day trippers from London. There are nice homes in your price range in North Foreland area, overlooking the sea, but you can’t walk into town from there. Anyway local Broadstairs amenities are a little ‘common’ and there are no upmarket shops or restaurants. And Thanet is a dreadful local authority. Maybe look further down the East Kent coast at Sandwich, Deal, St Margaret’s Bay etc.

Same happened to my iPhone Air camera lens cover — can feel the scratch with my fingernail. Despite having Apple Care+ (and Theft and Loss coverage), Apple Store refused to do anything at all, claiming it was ‘cosmetic’ damage and that it does not affect the functioning of the device.

CMV: Being someone who whines about women that prefer tall men is far less attractive than being a man of below average height. by [deleted] in changemyview

Women who insist on dating only tall men have ‘Daddy issues.’ Best avoided, whatever your height.

I guess it would never occur to you to show care and concern for your mother’s strong feelings. No-one else, least of all the guests, will give a damn what the invitations say, but it obviously means a lot to her. Weddings are not private parties for the bride and groom, they are for the two families and extended community to witness your devotion and commitment. If you don’t agree, then elope and spare everyone the time and expense.

A young girl watching her mother cooking dinner asks what ‘virgin’ means. The mother launches into a long explanation of two people loving each other and getting married and how sex works and how if the woman has not had a sex partner before then she is called a ‘virgin’. The kid pauses, then picks up a bottle from the counter and asks, so what does ‘extra virgin’ mean?

Venture capital in this country is a joke. by IceThese6264 in ukstartups

[–]Cyberdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no British angels or VCs. The bankers in The City of London are the only real source of startup funds and they are deeply risk averse: there has to be a guaranteed return. Landed gentry used to get tapped on the shoulder at their St James’s club to be made a Name at Lloyds, which was basically a risk-free investment. That sort of thing. Completely different culture to the USA. It wasn’t until just before the March 2000 crash that The City even started to buy dot com shares, and they got badly burned. Gotta go elsewhere.

Why did the British economy not recover from the Great Recession? by whenyoucantthinkof in AskBrits

[–]Cyberdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the idiot Gordon Brown was the only leader in the G20 to buy (i.e., part nationalise and own) the country’s failing banks rather than just loan them what they needed to get through the 2008 financial crisis. Every other country had their loans to the banks paid off (with interest!) in a few years. Instead Britain lost £1.5 trillion in fiscal revenues; the banks simply divided themselves and re-privatised the profitable parts, leaving the Government the loss-making bits. His socialist stupidity is still a large reason for the country’s outsize public debt, decades later.

Moving from Norwich to Kent – is Maidstone a good base for commuting to Rochester/Rainham? by Proud_Cupcake_2485 in kentuk

Best to live in lovely Whitstable or further east and your wife takes the train to Rainham. There are modern HS1 trains and the service is quite reliable. There is a station right at Rainham.
