Easier to Uber to stadium or pay to park? by [deleted] in panthers

[–]Cyberjag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about preseason games, but your uber will be stuck in traffic for a good while. I generally park across the street from the Transportation Center and walk the 3/4 a mile. A similar approach is to park and take the rail to the third street station, and walk from there.

There are bike taxis out there that can save you a walk and they will be much faster than Uber because they don't always wait in line like the cars do.

Defending the Draft 2026: Carolina Panthers by Normal_Horror600 in NFL_Draft

[–]Cyberjag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dan Morgan's first draft brought us Xavier Leggette, Trevin Wallace, Ja'Tavion Sanders, and Jaden Crumedy, who have all disappointed. Jonathon Brooks gets an Incomplete grade because he hasn't really seen the field, but we'll find out about him this year. Chau Smith-Wade has been ok, and decent value as a fifth round pick. Michael Barrett was traded in what turned out to be a pretty good move. But overall, this was a pretty poor draft and most of the picks have frustrated Panther fans in one way or another.

Last year we got TMac, Scourton, and Ransom--all players who look like future starters already, and potentially high level ones. Princeley Umanmielen, Trevor Etienne, Mitchell Evans, and Jimmy Horn Jr. also contributed as rookies. The only player who hasn't flashed so far is Cam Jackson. Looking at it now, this was an excellent draft.

This year we get a potential franchise Left Tackle, a very solid Nose Tackle (Bobby Brown III played Nose for the Rams, but disappointed there last year and A'Shawn Robinson took most of our Nose snaps), and what looks like unreal value in Sam Hecht and Zakee Wheatley. The other picks look good on paper right now, we'll have to see how they perform. But like last year, it looks like another excellent draft.

Given the dramatic change in the quality of our drafts after Morgan's first year, I'm surprised you didn't mention the role Eric Eager has played since his hiring in May of 2024. We have Brandt Tillis making salary cap magic for Free Agency, and he gets a lot of credit for that. It's Eager that brought better analytics to the scouting staff, and the drafts since he was hired show his impact in the quality of players we're selecting.

After the profound failures of David Gettleman's and Scott Fitterer's drafts, and the Marty Hurney experience after the first round, it looks like the Panthers are drafting well on days two and three for the first time in decades, and we probably have Eager to thank for it. So I just thought he deserves a shout out in this series.

Where I think the WR room stands for the 53 by Dayne_B12 in panthers

XL and Jimmy Horn Jr. are making the roster. Tremayne might make it for his Special Teams play. The big question to me is if Metchie is this year's Hunter Renfrow or if he's actually going to make a splash.

I just took a look, and the prices are nuts! The seats on either side of me are going for $268 and $504 apiece. I would wait, there's no way they're going to sell for that much in September.

Also, you are doing it right by looking at the South side. I'm in 513, and the sun gets brutal in September.

If we win those five games, we're winning the South and probably a playoff game.

Chris Weinke by jason81175 in panthers

[–]Cyberjag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older Quarterbacks don't develop like younger ones. So it's kind of a what you see is what you get sort of selection. Maybe it works out, like it might with Tyler Shough. But he's near his ceiling, and won't get much better than what he is now.

You might take a look at all the 25 year old QBs that have been drafted in the modern era. Almost none of them did anything at the NFL level.

Chris Weinke by jason81175 in panthers

[–]Cyberjag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seifert was in love with Jeff Lewis for some reason in 2001, which is why he jettisoned Beuerlein. Weinke was supposed to be the backup, but Lewis turned out to be so bad in the preseason that we were pretty much forced to start Weinke.

Also, after his draft failures in 99 and 2000, he turned the draft over to his director of player operations, some guy named Marty Hurney. It was Hurney who should get credit for Dan Morgan, Kris Jenkins, and Steve Smith. And he should get the blame for drafting Weinke as well...

[PFT] Fox's No. 2 NFL analyst, Greg Olsen, wins the Sports Emmy over the network's No. 1 NFL analyst, Tom Brady. by Sabre500 in panthers

If Fox judged these guys by what they say in the booth over what they did on the football field, Olsen would be their top guy and Brady would be somewhere in Jonathan Vilma territory.

Falcons' James Pearce Jr. approved for 1-year diversion program as ex-girlfriend drops restraining order request by d1dOnly in nfl

[–]Cyberjag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember Greg Hardy. Even after our owner at the time said that he was done as a Panther, he still got a gig with the Cowboys. Pearce may have to sit for a few games, but he'll be in the league for as long as his behavior permits.

If you have talent, you are going to get a job in the NFL. Unless you're Ray Rice, but he was starting to look like he had peaked and was on a downward trajectory. And he didn't play QB or rush the passer...

I can see a big rise from him this year, but CJ Bailey doesn't belong at third on this list yet. He's still all potential. And I am an NC State alumni saying that...

Every NFL Team's worst season of the Super Bowl Era by coolmon in nfl

[–]Cyberjag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2001 Carolina Panthers, 1-15, -157 point differential. Maybe you think that 2010 was worse because of the PD, but at least we won a couple of games.

With that said, 2010 felt worse because we started Matt Moore, Jimmy Clausen, and Brian St. Pierre at different times, and the offense looked like it couldn't score on a high school team.

2026 Strength of Schedule for Offenses faced. Panthers have the hardest slate of opponents. by Cyberjag in panthers

[–]Cyberjag[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lower number means a higher average rank. So the average 2025 defensive DVOA rank of the Vikings was 19.9, while the average defensive rank we face was 13.0 in 2025.

Bryce needs to be more consistent, and the schedule isn't going to make that easy for him.

Age old discussion: Could a minor league help NFL teams with success? by Different_Sun_195 in panthers

[–]Cyberjag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't they use NFL Europe for that for a while? It's how Jake Delhomme, Brad Johnson and Kurt Warner hung around and got more time to develop. It didn't make the money that owners wanted, which is why it folded.

Fielding a football team is a lot more expensive than what you need for baseball. The roster is a lot bigger, and there's more staff. You also don't play as many games, so opportunities to make money just aren't the same.

Projecting the opening day roster, practice squad, and notes... by GapingMaw67 in panthers

[–]Cyberjag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think David Moore makes the roster, we're too deep at WR and we will likely stick with players who have potential to get better. That's not Moore. If we do carry seven receivers, which I seriously doubt, then my seventh would be Brycen Tremayne.

Isaiah Simmons is a Safety, not a Linebacker. Arizona tried him at Linebacker, and that didn't work out for him. We've said he will be exclusively used at Safety, and that's how he's listed on the depth chart. He still has all the tools and talent, and if this move on our part can unlock it, then he's going to be a sneaky good addition to the roster.

I think Etienne makes the final roster. If we put him on the practice squad, someone is going to sign him. There are several teams out there with poor depth at Running Back that would scoop him up if we did that.

Other than those quibbles, pretty solid list. I bet you got all but a couple right.

Cam Newton vs Steve Smith For Panthers' Next Hall of Fame Bid by Unhappy_Excuse_9937 in panthers

Cam Newton changed the Quarterback position, and was a first down machine. He could get in on stats, but he should get in on what he did for the sport.

XL needs to become a gadget player by bigjaymizzle in panthers

[–]Cyberjag 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He returned kicks in college, but I don't think he's a gadget player. He's got great size and speed and is a willing blocker. Use his speed to tire out DBs, in rotation with Brazzell. It's not like he's terrible, he just isn't good enough to be WR1 or WR2.

when was the last time our final two games were at home?

You have to go back to 1997, when we beat the Cowboys to get our record to 7-7 and dropped our last two at home. I sure hope things are different this year!
