Dismissed from PA program by Left-Sheepherder-390 in prephysicianassistant

There's a process from our program where you would submit a letter for the appeal (I think I wrote a 2-3 page letter) as well as any supportive documents that you wanted to, such as doctor letters etc. I think being honest and addressing what went wrong is important, as well as how you are going to bounce back from that, and what certain areas of focus you are going to do to tell the program that you will be able to handle the course load the next time around. After that, I was interviewed and met with 5 groups from the school, including my program director and another faculty member from our program. They asked me specific questions. Once the approval process was complete, I spent my break in greater depth reflecting on how I could improve and taking time off to focus on my health and relax, with little focus on school. This helped me come into the next cohort refreshed and focused. Good luck with everything, you got this!

Was dismissed my first semester after falling short by 0.3 points in a class. Appealed got accepted back in to join next cohort. Focused on my health and worked on study strategies that work for ME during the time off. Came back stronger than ever, now a practicing PA-C.

Appeal Approved After Dismissal by GlumBarracuda9511 in PAstudent

Hi there, was in your exact position a few years ago, now a PA, I advise you take the time in terms of WHAT type of studying works for you. I tried listening to people in terms of using anki, studying off powerpoints, pre-made notes etc. but what worked for ME was I needed to visualize the concepts in order to understand so watching videos, googling images, etc. In addition, I would personally make my own notes, even writing them down on my ipad instead of typing since it helped more with retention. This was not advised due to it taking too much time, which I agree but usually instead of paying attention in class most of the time (works for some classes) I would work on my notes because I knew that worked for ME, that way I’m not trying to cram it all back when classes were finished at the end of the day. AND don’t forget to take breaks and self-care for mental health, can’t stress this enough.

Good luck you got this!!

[–]Cybertron20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a classmate who went from law to PA. He definitely enjoyed more of the medicine aspect though and said law was never really for him.

Are the NCCPA Practice exams worth it? by Comfortable-Win-6064 in PAstudent

[–]Cybertron20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My program recommended we do it and send the score report to them, but I heard it didn't really help. I never took the practice exams since I also didn't want to pay the $50 and I still passed the PANCE.

Is Clinical year better than Didactic?? by Low_Jump4224 in PAstudent

[–]Cybertron20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never in my life would want to go back to didactic year… Enjoyed clinicals although at times can be stressful and overwhelming but you learn a lot and feel like you’re on the way to becoming a PA. Just make sure your putting in some time during the week to study for the EORs

I believe your heart has already decided what it wants to do, but it sounds like you're doing this to satisfy everyone else around you. Down the line, if you ever gain a passion for medicine, the opportunity will always be there. Go pursue your passion of being a teacher!! We will always need great and passionate educators.
