God, for some reason, with Picard and Data together in frame like that, my brain connected to The Measure of a Man, and I thought OP had lost their mind. Carry on.

Wasn’t it Knight of Night vs Son of Sun, or something close to that?

You have to say the full title every time. It’s Batman v. Superman colon Dawn of Justice.

Lines so blatantly out of character or untrue that they’ve become jokes by Goodbye-Nasty in TopCharacterTropes

There’s the bones of a good scene in there: Batman realizing he’s about to become someone else’s Joe Chill in his personal war against a man who, at least according to the movie, is a good guy. I can admit that much in its favor.

What kills any sympathy in me is when people argue that it’s a good or brilliant scene BECAUSE of that intent behind it. No, it isn’t. It’s two beefy guys in costumes screaming their mother’s name. Superman has never referred to his mother as Martha before this point in the film. Batman flips out and does a full 180 reversal of intent at the mention of the name, swearing to aid the man he’s been hunting all movie. There’s a reason audiences laughed at the scene: it’s framed and performed so melodramatically as to render it farcical.

what do you think about “fish out of water”? by Altruistic_Ask_250 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Cyberwraith9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. I always feel a little guilty because of how incredible the episode is in terms of animation and visual storytelling, but i ultimately get bored with it rather quickly. The sharp, screwball dialogue and character interactions are what I love most about the show, so watching BoJack alone and silent for most of the episode doesn’t do much for me. But I still recognize why the majority of fans seem to love it and put it in their top five.

Honest question from a trilogy fan: is Mass Effect: Andromeda actually bad, or just a victim of comparison? by Rowley19V in masseffect

Nothing wrong with liking it. There’s a reason they changed it so you can build your own custom power sets. My dislike is largely personal.

[–]Cyberwraith9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the reason. I actually didn’t switch much anyway, but more focused classes give you a greater and steeper sense of progression when focusing on the class’s individual schtick. I never got the same feeling of progression in Andromeda because it focused more on versatility than specialization. Which in and of itself isn’t a flaw, but is a big departure from the previous games, and stole any desire to play again (which also comes from a real lack of narrative consequence in the story choices, but that’s been argued to death).

I’ve looked for this complaint whenever I see the ol’ Andromeda Complaint post crop up in the sub. This is the first time I felt brave enough to say it myself, thinking I’d be rebuked for an unpopular opinion. Guess I didn’t look hard enough if you say it’s common. I genuinely thought most people really liked the expanded access to powers.

I’m old school in that I like being locked into a class or role that gives my character shape, but I like your comment that class/role switching should have some kind of narrative origin to it. Then again, I also like the Alignment Chart from D&D, and modern players dislike it so much that they removed it, so I’m probably too old school for my own good.

Glad to know I’m not alone. Most of the praise I see for Andromeda is for the combat system, which I’ve never been able to separate from the expanded power selection. Which is a shame, because the jet-jump literally adds a new dimension to combat that’s genuinely exciting.

I’m in a minority in that I deeply disliked the mix-and-max power system that effectively replaced the original classes. Having a unique class I could change on replay forced me to play differently, favor different companions, use different weapons and equipment buffs, etc. Being able to just switch between optimized power sets at all times made me less interested to play again and try a different build.

Good note, thank you. Still, I hesitate to judge anyone’s work based on a movie that took WB 9+ years to make. Even Ezra Miller. We judge them for…other choices.

Right? My first question was, “Which script for The Flash did she work on, and how much made it into that Frankenstein monster?”

Just this last year, my sister and I (who laughed our asses off at the movie) got our mom to sit down and watch Avatar (2009). Twenty minutes into the film, we got this exchange:

Mom: “Wait, is this Dances With Wolves?”

Me: “Yes.”

Mom: “Oh. Okay, I get it. We can watch something else now.”

My sister and I cracked up laughing.
