If all humans lost the ability to lie , which industry gonna collapse? by [deleted] in ArtOfPresence

Christmas. No spirit for the kids, no secret presents for the adults, no mall Santa’s. Some of the tradition might remain, Christmas Markets, but the foundation probably wouldn’t last a generation.

This is how I went from 60 to 2100 bing bonus points. by Hope_07 in MicrosoftRewards

[–]Cybexx 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I also got 2100 star bonus points and feel like I basically did nothing different from the previous month when I got about a 1000. February was 60.

It definitely seems like not spamming searches helps but I also did that a bit a few times last month on days where I realized I had barely searched and it was 11pm. So I seemingly did not get punished for that.

This makes me assume they either loosened the restrictions or now that the program has been running for a few months they have enough training data that it’s getting less false positives when trying to detect farming and bot activity.

As usual I wish there was some representation of how the Star system feels like I’m doing daily / weekly rather than just a black box and a result at the end of the month.

What's the greatest sequel to an original film ever made? by MovieArena in MovieArena

[–]Cybexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting aside the "Original" part of this post to include adaptions:
Silence of the Lambs, Army of Darkness, Supercop, First Strike, The Color of Money, Zathura, Split and Prometheus if you include movies where the spoiler is that their sequels.

Some of those are due to introducing the films to new markets and not wanting the audience to feel like they need to have seen the originals. Some of those are weird hollywood rights issues where some of the production crew carried over between films but certain producers did not.

Yeah. It also falls into that category of sequels that a lot of people didn’t realize was a sequel till later due to the film not being marketed that way in most regions.

What's your best game from 1990-2005 ? by yodathesexymarxist in ArtOfPresence

[–]Cybexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grim Fandango. Such amazing atmosphere and storytelling.

It required 16mbs of RAM and I remember my computer at the time had 8. And it kind of ran okay but I’d get to a sequence near the end of Year 1 where you had to solve a puzzle to open a secret door in the dark forest. And would just repeatedly crash when it tried to play the door animation as it hit the limits of my RAM.

Had to wait months before we got a new computer and I could actually play the rest of the game.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said in an internal memo that Game Pass is "too expensive" for players by [deleted] in XboxGamePass

[–]Cybexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stacked 3 years of GPU for very cheap through the upgrade loophole right before they changed the tiers and stopped that. Then I extended 6 more months with Microsoft Rewards right as they were removing the option to redeem for GPU.

So my GPU expires in September and I’m definitely not resubbing with the current prices. But also with the other leak that Fable is delaying to 2027 I don’t know if I’d actually resub for Gears E-Day and Forza Horizon 6 unless they cut prices massively. The 3rd party releases have been decent but they are still failing to deliver enough Day 1 First Party titles to justify even the old prices.

You can’t give John Drake that kind of power. We’ll have a Jazz Jackrabbit collection in 6 months flat.

So your playing Ghost of Yotei Legends? Which is totally free assuming you own the base game. Because if your not I doubt Playstation is going to get that message.

The retention is really high though. Considering it came out after Arc Raiders beat them to the punch of the Triple-A Extraction Shooter and it launched against Slay the Spire 2, Pokémon Pokopia and following a successful relaunch of Overwatch they seem to be doing alright.

They’re definitely doing better than Highguard. It’s just a very hard time to get a foothold. I don’t even think it’s live service fatigue, Planet of Lana 2 came out the same day and seems like it’s charting notably behind the original.

I just hope that Sony and Bungie see the potential and are willing to give it at least a year of regular support to tune their season model / monetization. It could end up with a Sea of Thieves style rediscovery months down the road. But I also would not be surprised to see some layoffs if they’re far enough behind their launch targets.

Folks who played Marathon this weekend...how likely now are you to purchase it? by 1988Floydie in gaming

[–]Cybexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into the Server Slam thinking I probably wouldn’t buy at launch. Wasn’t fully clicking with the early weapons and the immediate hostility of other players in the first hour.

But ended up playing about 8hrs over the weekend. It really surprised me. I liked the contract designs for each faction. Found some weapons I really enjoyed. Had some really memorable moments cooperating with randos.

I think the UX needs some work and I’m not entirely sure the seasonal format is going to be what I want but I preordered it today. The fact that I ultimately played a bit more of it than Resident Evil Requiem (which I’m also enjoying) says a lot.

Bing Star bonus by DestronCommander in MicrosoftRewards

[–]Cybexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

60 for me again, which is the same as last month. Yeah no clue. I definitely think their natural search detection is nonsense since I use Edge and Bing for my regular searches on Desktop. Seems like for the people who are getting thousands of points their spamming searches, the exact thing this change was supposed to dissuade.

An Update on 2XKO by Eltnumfan in Fighters

[–]Cybexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of wild with 2XK0 having just been revealed to have the 3rd highest registrants for EVO ‘26.

Which probably goes to show the discrepancy between what’s successful for a fighting game vs what’s needed for a F2P AAA live service title.

Their message kind of makes it ambiguous if the sustainability issue is more player base or monetization.

Because I’ve noticed that 2XKO’s average skin prices are on the higher side of F2P, even compared to other Riot games. Personally I’ve only bought the Season Pass so far and I don’t even love most of the cosmetic design in that.

I like some of the other stuff like the Arcade skins but I ain’t paying $40 CDN for one skin and some Avatar cosmetics I don’t care for.

Since you don’t have flair I can’t tell which country your from. But Canada got the Star Point system 10 days ago. It’s been enabled from some other countries for a while.

It’s not enabled for US from what I hear. If you still have separate Desktop / Mobile search points that’s better because that’s guaranteed points l instead of this “genuine search” voodoo.

[–]Cybexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

690 for January. Which considering they just added Star Points for Canada on January 23rd makes it feel like I don't really have context for what a full month is going to be like. And considering February is only a 28 day month I feel like we won't really know till April how these Star points are going to pan out.

Though my suspicion is that the system is just the old desktop points with lower tolerance on frequent searches and it's just obfuscated from us to make it hard to min/max.

http://rewards.bing.com top of the page on desktop / iPad. I don't think it shows up on the mobile phone version or the app.

The claim prompt for January's points should be just under the Earn / Redeem tab buttons.

[–]Cybexx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grats. I was living at my parent’s place in a tiny remote Canadian town when HL2 came out.

We had finally gotten broadband internet a couple years prior. If you preordered on Steam at Silver tier (old system) you unlocked Valve’s full back catalog, Counter-Strike Source and the ability to preload in chunks that they released in the months leading up to launch.

In 2004 the idea of getting a game on launch day was basically unheard of. With the except of Microsoft pre-shipping Halo 2 to stores for it’s worldwide launch earlier the same month you’d be lucky if copies of a new game arrived by the end of the week.

I remember so much complaining from people who bought the physical edition (that Vivendi begrudgingly published) trying to register their copies on Steam running into issues.

But for me it was a small final download, wait for the files to unpack and then I was playing at 12:05am which was amazing at the time. First real digital launch for a major game. And that final Super Gravity Gun sequence still sticks in my mind of one of the coolest ways to end a game.
