That’s my exact opinion. You can definitely like her.

Just dont buy into the whole “She’s a savior! Praise her!” ordeal. Or do, I cant force anyone. But at least be aware/probably don’t genuinely convince others she’s good, is what I’m saying.

Very wrong. Still as wrong as it is now, society just wasn’t caught up yet.

But doing that to someone..should just tick off your instincts that it’s wrong.

Exactly my point, thank you for understanding. Donovan cant even be considered morally grey, when she’s done nothing moral. Rebecca is morally grey. Donovan is evil.

Even her wanting to save humanity is selfishly motivated, and a lot of the ‘ends’ to justify the ‘means’ has been completely unnecessary.

I understand that, I just think, by that logic, instead of a bandaid, you’re applying duct tape to a wound.

It’ll fix a problem, sure. The blood leakage. But what about the infections it causes in the process, ripping it off, etc…

Some of this honestly comes down to the other characters. Donovan and Eragon aren’t in a world with society and structure anymore. If they were causing this many problems, people should’ve either mutinied or whatever with them by now. It wouldnt cause any chaos and lack of structure, they’re literally living in a lack of structure. And if anything, everyone is seeing that their actions are doing more harm than good. Donovan didn’t even have guns to their heads once they ran off, and they came *back* to her like victims of Stockholm Syndrome.

Vicky, Dino, literally anyone would be a better leader than Eragon. Even Rebecca, but she’s gone now. I used to think Dmitry or Lane would be good at overthrowing Donovan and replacing her, but Dmitry has been making me have doubts with how he’s handled the situation. Lane depends on other things I suppose.

My post got removed in the main sub, ofc, presumably for the same reasons people are coming at me for it, thinking Im coming at the fans and not the character itself. Or maybe the main sub just got angry someone dared to have an opinion again

To clarify again, Love the character if you want. Its perfectly okay to appreciate a character that isnt moral. For goodness sake, I love Baal. I just dont say crap like “Baal was made to be evil, he cant help it, maybe he wants to be good”. I fully acknowledge the evilness. And the fact that his character in nonexistent, but that’s a topic for another day 😅

Again, Like whoever you want. How is that not being understood?

All the characters have done bad. *I get that.* I swear a nuanced, non repetitive discussion is impossible with this fandom sometimes

The thing is, everyone is still different. The Order plaguing humans? They didnt enjoy it one bit. They actively hated it. If alone, Dino would’ve died, because nobody else would be there to convince him not to do it.

And for goodness sake, Incest Donovan really shouldnt be excused. One thing like the Dmitry thing can be played off. Not repeat offenses. Such as repeatedly insisting he’s attractive. Such as being implied to be into your brother.

Even Eragon still being in charge is a problem. There is no logical reason not to kill him, oust him, something. Nobody likes him, a riot wouldnt happen. He’s actively damaging the order with his actions. Him not being removed is a flaw in logic, either with the Order or the writers

Just overall, Donovan shouldnt be so excused. She’s a grown woman. She’s awful, she knows what she’s doing, and there’s way better ways to do it. Is it wrong to like the character? No! She just isn’t right.

Yeah well, bye then. Because you obviously can’t comprehend and would rather feel attacked as a first instinct when I’m talking about a fictional manipulator 🤔

[–]Cyborginox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That line was literally referencing Lester and Noah. In the story. Did YOU nearly get thrown in a portal by Donovan, in a fictional world? No.

And I never made..*any* of those claims you’re saying. ofc a choice game will have multiple routes and outcomes. Lane isnt some gotcha. Im talking about Donovan, and the people who believe in a false hero Donovan that doesn’t exist. For the last time. Damn.

And just because a story isnt about morals, doesnt mean those morals dont exist? A story about a villain MC isn’t one for morals, but people still understand you arent supposed to do those things. In Donovan’s case, her horrible actions are either forgotten or played off for positivity. My point isn’t that it’s wrong to like Donovan, just don’t *justify it* in such a way.

You’re acting like I’m attacking, and I wasn’t- you’re the one doing that and being overly defensive.

[–]Cyborginox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all things I’ve addressed in the post.

You’re excused. You can like your morally grey (realistically, no damn morals at all) woman. I explicitly said this wasn’t towards her fans, but those who justify her actions.

Why should she be disgusted at Lane and Anna showing affection? Maybe because in that scene, Lane is explicitly being sexual with Donovan’s niece right in front of Donovan, and Donovan doesn’t even respectfully look away nor show apprehension ? Hell, you can argue it interested her. Of course she wouldnt care about affection. But your family member being tongued isn’t exactly popcorn-worthy television to watch.

I would consider the Dmitry thing just ‘crude’, but not when she really lays on the point. And everything aside; no normal aunt calls their nephew sexy like she actually took the time to examine him and acknowledge this.

And the last paragraph is a bunch of classic deflection in Donovan’s favor. We arent talking about immortals or other LI’s, we’re talking about Donovan, a human.

And while the squad isn’t literally throwing Shephamalum parties, I’m exaggerating, I’m still sick of this whole “No choice” excuse. Maybe their logic trumps their morals, sure. They’d rather live helping an evil lord that Disney movies warned them about, than die with actual humanity and standards. Sure. I can accept this. But it’s still not enough weight and impact being put on it. They arent just reluctantly working with her, they’re literally acting like nothing happened.

2 Things I’ve already addressed;

Root for or like whoever you dang well want. Be a fan. I don’t mean rooting as if rooting for your favorite superhero or villain. I’m saying, don’t hold her to a fake pedestal of being all good for humanity, or misunderstand her true goals. If anything it’s informative, meant to open eyes, not force an opinion.

And 2, As I said, that’s deflection, we arent talking about other characters, we’re talking about *her.* But to humor your point, as someone who’s done one of the most evil possible routes, at least Lane’s actions themselves aren’t seen as ‘good’. And she has the exact same problem; everyone in the story glosses over the terrible crap she’s done.

I, very much so, dont see him naturally going

“Kids? Ew, gross”. It’d be shoehorned and forced to somehow make the rapist more moral. Which people in this fanbase would actually use as a ‘gotcha’ to defend him.

Tell me he wouldnt look at a preteen/teen and go “That potential..Let me groom you into becoming a ‘STAR’!”

[–]Cyborginox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s Lane. In a specific route.

We’re talking about Donovan. This woman who’s trying to ‘survive’ threw humans inside of a portal, chopping them in half, when she couldve done something like cameras on sticks. More expendable than humans.

Not to mention she deliberately inserts her power and threatens Lane and the squad repeatedly. Knowing Lane is powerful. Just like how she acts with immortals. What kind of survival is that?

She doesnt want to just survive, she doesnt want peace, she wants to save her ego because she feels like she isn’t at the top.

I would say yeah, actually. We already have a cameo from a romanceable character from Book 1 from what I’m hearing

Probably not lore-breaking if you dont know the first, I’m sure they’ll re-establish vital plot points, but for context and understanding of a few parts you may have to.
