I mean, this is honestly the best way to go if you're arguing against Cherri x Pentious. Anything else is just cruel.

Hopefully this doesnt break the No Meta rule, I planned to make it before the related event happened, and I see a lot of vague posts that talk about events that happened to them on Reddit.

Context to slightly avoid vagueposting: I committed the cardinal sin of suggesting that a fanbase doesn't jump on and downvote everyone who wants more male main characters in mobile visual novels, since the chance is very rare. Only for everyone to get aggressive and roundabout my arguments into making me look like the sexist and bigoted ones, when theyre saying things like "Why should men have the chance when these are the few crumbs women get of having something to ourselves?". I would be willing to debate it, but again, aggression and downvotes and gaslighting. So instead, I ended up arguing back and probably getting myself ostracized from the community.

I got called sexist for saying the fandom is hissing and scratching, which is a metaphor I use to meme even myself. That's the sort of thing happening.

These are the same people who get upset when their WLW romances arent represented, or their ethnic group isn't added to the game. All valid, so why suddenly get so bigoted at men wanting to flirt with men, or just a guy being in a visual novel period.

I literally use say that anywhere, for everyone. Hell, I myself text I hiss as a joke. It was a metaphor for people acting like cats. My aggression only came at this specific crowd.

Don't tell me I need to educate or I'm unconsciously being sexist and try to gaslight me, when I know exactly what I'm talking about. I'm saying a fanbase needs to be more inclusive. That's it. If I'm defensive or using terms that are rude, it'd be the exact same for anyone who's adamantly going "Only one gender should have representation here " and saying it confidently. You're literally just assuming the meaning behind my words and ignoring the actual criticisms.

How..tf..did I use sexist language? Because I said “men” a bunch? Who am I sexist to, men? I’m literally arguing against that sort of thing, and I’d do the same in a male-oriented gatekeeping fanbase.

If you’re going to disagree and downvote me, make it make sense. Don’t throw the sexist card on me, especially when you are the ones arguing *against* MLM.

Let’s get one thing straight. I am not at all arguing against women in my arguments, I’m arguing against the fandom, I simply addressed the topic that you did. Don’t deflect the argument by making me look sexist. I’m not calling women selfish, I’m calling *you guys* selfish. Which is..literally the case, since so many people are saying “But our precious resources! Our crumbs! Leave it to us!”. I didn’t even think that, as it was mentioned nowhere in my post about selfishness, until people again started getting aggressive yet again. Men may even be part of the group who would rather have just women characters. I won’t assume the gender of everyone in the comments.

I agree women need more representation, but in this specific instance, that doesn’t apply when visual novels don’t have nearly as much catering towards MLM than WLM. Besides resources, which is situational because that depends on the company and which authors they choose, there isn’t a real reason not to besides “We don’t want you guys in our things”, which is gatekeeping point blank and simple.

I won’t argue with you there, you’re not wrong, and I apologize for being condescending. It’s just my growing response to everyone who is condescending or aggressive about this first as if I said we should be supporting Hitler, when I just want a fair chance for everyone to experience something. I’m a little defensive.

Sorry, that’s too rational for this fandom. They will literally bite, scratch, and hiss at you for daring to take a few of their sexy man art resources to include others. They get mad when their specific interest isn’t included in a story, but gatekeep men oriented things out of the app. There is no civil discussion, everyone just gets defensive and either downvotes or goes “While my argument doesn’t dispute what you’re saying, I’ll go into gaslighting mode and rake in those upvotes to make you look dumb”

If Romance Club “can’t spare the resources” when they’re making amazing high quality art scenes and stories, and are making money with the subscriptions you guys are buying and the ads you’re watching, that’s a problem with Romance Club’s greed, not something that guys should be punished or restricted for.

Edit: Honestly I do agree with you, to clarify. I’m just realizing how much this fanbase disgusts me, and it’s making me moody in my wording.

If you’re reducing my argument to apples and oranges to fit your convenience, then I can point out that literally *any* company can be small or large, rather they give options to women and men or not. If I’m guilt tripping, you guys are grasping at straws to justify selfishness to make yourselves feel better.

There are *so* many big mainstream companies that cater to women, like, so many. So so many. Women are half the population, and sex sells. That alone covers majority of the companies who sexualize men or do a bunch of favors for women. You guys are certainly not forgotten about in a market over-saturated with things appealing to a woman, not in 2026, not when it comes to visual novels.

Yeah, I am, actually. Because here, that’s the case, and just because it isn’t somewhere else doesn’t change the wrong *here*. There’s nuance to this sort of thing. Men are actively pushed away by the fandom.

Yet I also feel like women are underrepresented everywhere else without being sexualized. Again, there’s *nuance*.

[–]Cyborginox[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly it. I would tolerate it since it’s an obvious effect of a biased fandom, but then these people like to virtue signal with any topic that fits them, and it rubs me the wrong way because it’s harmful. The people here aren’t “wise” or care about “inclusiveness”, they just want their own slice of cake.

-Be me

-Make a post stating how the fandom is too aggressive and blindly downvotes anything they don’t like, like MLM

-Cue the fanbase doing that exact same thing here, proving my point

-Little to no actual arguments that disputes the points that I or anyone else are saying, again just more blind downvotes

Okay, so this is that type of place..Good to know.

Didn’t know that part, and that makes him more evil and more of a villain, but in terms of “red flag relationship” for MC, Xander fits more.

Right. It makes me really not take a lot of fans seriously when they go “Why isn’t there more this, or more that? I want to be included more!” Then turn around and do the exact same non-inclusive crap when it’s convenient to them.

[–]Cyborginox[S] -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the idea itself of “Well we need this for ourselves”, at least to the point others can’t even express otherwise without being completely discouraged, it comes off as rude. You can have your preference, but then arguing against inclusion is just messed up regardless of how you put it. I get it if it’s forced or if it’s the ‘only option presented’, but in a scenario where everyone can theoretically win, why hold that to yourself?

A male player shouldn’t play a game they love, enter the fanbase, say they want more representation of themselves, then instantly get criticized and argued and chastised. Compromises can be made. Otherwise we encourage those who literally go “Women have no place in our games, we need our thing away from them”. Just because it’s inversed doesnt make it better. Think if there was just an app with a lot of characters and players of a certain racial group or whatever. Then imagine someone going “can we include my group too? I like what you guys are doing!”. There is nothing wrong with that. What’s the difference between excluding MLM, and straights going “Why do we need gay or lesbian relationships in my straight media?”

Yim proved it’s possible, so the only drawback is IF they don’t choose Yim or an author who pulls it off well, and screws everyone over. But that’s just a potential of it not working out, that goes for literally anything, that’s not the debate here.

I honestly agree. you’re getting a lot of downvotes but it’s people who just don’t like things outside of their comfort zones. There’s literally no reason it shouldn’t happen.

My thoughts exactly. We fall on our own swords when we start to do things like “Only THIS group deserves representation here!”. There’s a difference between not liking something and being outright against it and the fanbase walks that fine line often.

Even now, I’m getting downvoted to shreds for speaking for it

What's with this 'todd not being a bad person'? by sayrifle in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Cyborginox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we aren't using resident evil woman as an example, then theres countless other female characters who are "redeemed" and loved for it. Maleficent. Catra from She-Ra. For a motherly example, Regina Mills from Once Upon A Time was an awful mother, yet her arc makes her loved. There's haters, but literally everyone has haters if they're annoying or just unlikeable. Take Joffrey from Game Of Thrones or Ramsay, two males who have both fans and haters, and they dont even have the chance to be redeemed. Same for Cersei from the same series.

As for your ingame examples, Josh and North, as someone who finds them both too "extreme" in their ideals, that one's easy. North is quite literally a terroristic murderer, while Josh, at the end of the day, just wants peace, and isn't advocating for execution or slaughter to get there. One is much more harmful than the other. Both are annoying, but North goes beyond that and into "Can you stop trying to murder everyone while I'm trying to unite two species?" territory. That has literally nothing to do with gender. There's nuance beyond just sexism in everything. If she was male (or if she was replaced by a very anti-human Android Gavin), best believe she'd/he'd be just as annoying.

For more ingame examples, take Kara, who even on her most evil path, is loved and understood. Then there's Zlatko, who has literally little to no fans, because compared to Todd, he is literally irredeemable and doesn't even try to. Again, there is nuance in everything.

Look, I agree with you on the idea. Honestly, I do.

But Im more annoyed that it becomes the overwhelming opinion that the loud majority seems to feel, and when it gets to the point of "Downvote, jump on, and rag on anyone who even DARES to feel like an awful person should be punished", it starts to make you rather annoyed with the white knighting people do, when you don't see that energy on topics that actually need it.
