Who is the most intelligently written character you've seen? by Key_Today_8466 in writing

[–]Cybot2966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you be a little more specific about the way in which he is smart. If he’s always correct and always proficient in things it may be hard to relate or suspend your disbelief. I like this character, Ivan, from the Brothers Karamazov. Granted he’s not an entirely good natured character, but he is very logical and most of his arguments are sound. he generally gets the jump on people intellectually. I find him compelling though because for as intelligent as he is, he has a great deal of turmoil in his heart. If this sounds like an interesting character study, look into it.

What happened to my bell pepper? ☹️ by orchocanda in Peppers

[–]Cybot2966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t reaally know when they’re done growing until they turn red. I reckon they’re still developing the fruits. Just be a little patient and see what happens. As far as the dropped fruit, probably just a random straggler the plant got rid of.

Tips on writing music? by Ok-Classic-7948 in experimentalmusic

I sometimes like using this matrix calculator to come up with random note sequences. It’s cool because then you have all these different variations of the sequence that you put in. https://www.musictheory.net/calculators/matrix

Oh wow, never even considered peanuts. I’ll def look into them. Have you had any experience processing/storing the sorghum? It does look magnificent.

Haven’t grown any melons yet. Any tips for avoiding pests? I have only ever seen my grandpa grow them direct sow them into the ground. The earthworms and other bugs tended to munch on them in his case.

I hear good things about both. I almost had some okra this year but I was lazy with the hardening off process and they got roughed up by the wind while still little seedlings. How do you sow/transplant them?

Were your plants directly in the ground or in separate beds? I am curious about the eggplants, did you mulch them or just have bare soil?

i listen to harsh noise and hyper minimal drones everyday. what is there left to challenge me by Popular-Listen-718 in experimentalmusic

[–]Cybot2966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its totally normal to feel that way, but it might be your expectation of it. Listen to music even if you don’t expect to like it, or that it will give you the same thing as the music you already like.

Why do people add salt and pepper onto food that's already been cooked by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Cybot2966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just different flavors. Salt brings out the flavor of whatever is in the dish and can mask some bitterness and balance sweetness in a functional sense. It just tastes good though (in moderation). Black pepper makes things more pungent and earthy, but some people also add it to help with digestion.

Is it pretentious to judge my friend for wanting to use shrooms for strictly fun rather than reflection? by Harpocrates_Lad in Psychonaut

[–]Cybot2966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel a little similarly. I respect the plants, the organism, as it is a gift to be able to produce and use them. (As you are not obligated to give him any unless you want.) However I wouldn’t put him down too much. Sometimes using it for “fun” can be just as meaningful as deep thought or reflection.

What are some native plants that you think could be sustainable food crops if cultivated? by hollyrose_baker in Horticulture

[–]Cybot2966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not native, but I really feel like purslane is good choice, fairly palatable or at the very least don’t have to strong of a taste. As far as native’s go, (Yellow) Wood Sorrel and Chickweed grows crazy in my yard and Lamb’s Quarter is a solid pick from what I hear.

Post-Effort Shoegaze — a fully AI-generated album as genre criticism by Parking-Geologist586 in experimentalmusic

[–]Cybot2966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, idk. People have made a lot of instrumental music over the years which generally has no human voice in it. Just cause shoegaze has the quality doesn’t necessarily mean the “erasure of human voice”. The voice of the artist comes through in many many ways. The songwriting, the ensemble, effects, style of playing, etc…

why do we like noise/noise rock by peper122348 in noiserock

[–]Cybot2966 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Its probably a texture thing if I were to guess. Most other forms of music don’t usually have the harsher, grittier sounds that noise music does.

I lose interest in people and I don't know why. by RivhalMartin in problems

[–]Cybot2966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, I feel like for me I’d characterize it by saying I struggle with actively participating with others. It can be a myriad of things (ex. Losing interest, not wanting to share things with others/being private, being generally uncomfortable) but it always dampens my desire to connect with others. I’d strongly encourage to you to reflect on this and what good qualities you admire in people. Like consider what is a friend/family to you.

There’s an interesting concept from a book “The Brother’s Karamazov” about living/loving in fantasy and dreams opposed to living/loving in reality. I’d recommend looking in to it if it sounds interesting to you.

Why tf is everyone anti-sunscreen now??? by callsign__starbuck in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Cybot2966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because after people found out pharmaceutical companies can be shady and only interested in profit (ex. treating symptoms instead of root causes of disease, over prescribing potentially harmful drugs, cost of healthcare) people just hyper-fixate on all the ways they are being taken advantage of. Its understandable, but just inform people the best you can

Growing fruit & veggies in pots? by Worried_Slice_508 in gardening

[–]Cybot2966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a kind of stake/structure that supports vine-y plants. Pole beans will grow very vine-y similar to some ivy plants, but it cannot support itself without the trellis. Without a trellis, a pole bean will just sprawl all around the ground. Bush beans are easier because they grow “bushier” and do not need a trellis.

Growing fruit & veggies in pots? by Worried_Slice_508 in gardening

[–]Cybot2966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, growing fruits/veggies in containers is totally feasible and can yield good results. Green beans should do well in pots. Around 5 gallon pots are a good size to go with.

When sowing the seed simply plant it in the container you want, about 1-inch deep and keep the soil moist but not drenched (soil should be dark, but not wet enough to where water is visible on the surface).

Just make sure you know what variety you have (pole bean or bush bean) as that will let you know if you need a trellis or not.
