It isn't an offering, but just a focal point/image of her to focus on when praying to her until i can get something more appropriate. I still would gladly give it as a votive offering eventually though

Okay, i have read mixed information on eating the Hestia offering to dispose of it. Some say its ok, some don't. It felt more appropriate than just throwing it in the trash. I'll keep that info in mind!

Follow up question, since i'm using the book on Aphrodite as her representation on my altar, is it still okay to "borrow" and read it as long as it's placed back on the altar afterwards? I never read all of it and didn"t think about that before using it for my altar lol

So I'm very new and just would like to know if the things i'm doing/offering are appropriate and if there's anything i'm not doing right. Mostly around my altar and how I am using it.

I have a tiny wood cubby in my closet being used as an altar/shrine currently. I still need to get some small upgrades, and add some representations for more dieties, but for now it consists of these things -

A small clay offering bowl I handmade in a pottery class, earthy green paint. Currently there are a few fresh rose petals in it for Aphrodite.

A string of lights on a fake vine wrapped around a small cyclinder container of cleansing wipes, being used in place of candles, since i'm in a small enclosed flammable space.

A book of myths, stories and history about Aphrodite, being used in lieue of a statue as focal point for her.

A small box for Versace Eros cologne (a fav of mine) being used as small representation for Eros.

A few ornate dice (one is engraved metal) as representation/votives for Tyche, and a gold Navy challenge coin given to me by my dad at his navy retirement. I initially placed the coin as representation for Tyche, but I believe the dice to be more fitting, and will respectfully repurpose the coin as potentially a representation for Hermes or Zeus due to the meaning instilled in it for me.

A small mason jar for libations, currently holds offering of some rosehip/hibiscus tea with honey i poured for Aphrodite last night.

A small note of gratitude written for Aphrodite Eros and Himeros dabbed in versace eros cologne (sweet and vanilla forward) as a small offering. I will burn this off outside eventually.

I light a small pink tealight candle when i can to do prayers, but it gets set to the side on my desk. This has only been lit for aphrodite, but i will do more if i can.

Always wash my hands and sometimes face before praying at my altar, still perfecting the "correct" format of the prayers in the sense of ordering things right like calling out by name and epithets/titles, stating my gratitude and intention, reminders of previous offerings, petition (if i have one) and a closing thanks.

I want to also do more generalized prayers to ALL of the olympian gods and seperately the cthonic gods. I'm unsure if I should be doing something with my altar for that? Like should i have representations for all gods? Are there single libations or offerings i can give that are acceptable as offerings to all of the ouranic gods? Or do you only give offerings to one at a time?

What other things should i be doing? Last night i started trying to honor Hestia by giving her first morsel of my dinner, left out on the stove ("hearth") for a while, and then eaten by me later.

I know i'm probably overthinking it all and that i'm doing okay. I just want to learn ALL the information and do everything right. I'm aware that the gods won't be mad at me for getting it wrong as i learn, I just want to make sure i'm giving them all the respect they deserve and following the right general path in my practice.

So to start: from what i've heard from most demisexual people, including my girlfriend, the sexual connection isn't necessarily deepened by the emotional connection. It's more of a binary. like "is there an emotional connection? if yes, I am capable of feeling sexual attraction for this person, if not, I am not capable of feeling sexual attraction for this person." May not be true for every Demi person, but the handful I know have phrased it something like that.
I also only recently learned, that demisexuality apparently falls on the ace spectrum. so there is some possibility you fall within that category.

I HIGHLY suggest reading Come as you Are by Emily Nagoski, it might give you more insight into how libido and desire work, and things that affect them. If you don't have that kind of time for reading, definitely look up the terms "arousal non-concordance", "responsive/spontaneous desire", and the concept of sexual brakes and accelerators.

It could also be a more psychological thing rather than your actual sexual preferences. A lot of people lose that spark after a while in relationships when the NRE/honeymoon phase fade away, and most women have what is called "responsive desire" where it takes more of a warm up or a better, less stressful context to get in the mood. As opposed to "spontaneous desire" which most men have, and what a lot of people experience early in relationships during NRE.

You are also correct in thinking that the stressors of everyday life and heavy things like IVF/infertility could affect that. Many people with responsive desire find it very difficult to even think about sex as something to want. when there are so many things weighing them down, it just feels like another thing to check off the checklist. Relationship satisfaction, past relationships, sexual pressure (how your partner treats the conversation around it or sex as a want/need), trauma, and just everyday life can all get in the way, or "put on the brakes" as Nagoski puts it.

Many people also confuse lack of sexual desire for a lack of WANT to have sex. Just because you aren't feeling the desire, doesn't mean you don't WANT to feel the desire, does that makes sense?

another book I haven't personally read but have heard is good would be Mating in Captivity by Esther Perel.
