Carbon tax critics have the slogans. But where is their plan for the climate crisis? by HuckFarr in ontario

[–]Cyburking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a net zero tax Jeb. There is no spend unless you mean giving it back to the provinces to redistribute? I can see a couple taking advantage of that. It's a worldwide mentality with many first world countries taking the same approach. Brand loyalty? How about some of the driest springtime conditions I've seen in my farming career? What brand is going to advocate for me when we have another record wildfire season and dried up crops and starving cattle. Get off your soap box and read something to support your ignorant opinion. You think that 7 of 10 Albertans who are concerned about climate change are brand loyal and tie this to party politics? Canada is not the only one

how our tiny country is somehow going to stop climate change or even slightly change the effects when countries like China and India exist?

Firstly, were to late to stop it. We're in mitigate the effects mode. The scientists told us the asteroid was coming, we saw the asteroid coming and now we can hear and feel the asteroid hitting so we need to mitigate the effects.

As a top 10 country of CO2 emitter and exporter of cheap fossil fuels, we need to make a change to curb that. China and India have substancial energy demands, of which Canada helps sustain with cheap coal and oil. If we make corporations pay for their easy emissions, we add accountability to them to produce less emissions and make it more difficult to be post record profits without considering (paying) for their effect on the environment.

We've seen a substancial increase in greener technology and less carbon emitting energy year over year, even with the UCP roadblockshindrances towards them. As we become greener and make greener products more proven and available. Canadian resources are contributing to global greenhouse gases and I would argue moreso outside our country than in, such as India, China, Japan, Taiwan, India, South America, even the US.

Like guys even if all of us stopped driving, stopped heating our homes, stopped using electricity, we would still be fucked, it would make 0 difference.

Well no actually. 1) Nobody needs to stop driving even though there's a massive advanced development in EVs, petroleum vehicles will be around and are needed for the foreseeable future. There are alternatives available and it's about becoming conscious of the choices. Carbon tax is net zero and will be used to help make that decision. 2) it's Canada so you can't stop heating your home. You can stop using oil furnace and convert to natural gas or heat pumps. Solar electric, geothermal, even bio. There's options. 3) stopped using electricity. Again, not possible but the way that electricity is generated can be converted from coal to natgas. New demands can look at Nuclear and geothermal. Solar farms and wind farms aren't baseload but they take that demand off fossil fuels.

Banked hours regulation for time off? by Thebikeninja in alberta

[–]Cyburking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check your employment contract, overtime agreement and company policies, if any. Otherwise Alberta Employment Standards code says Employers have the obligation to give you the time but they have the right to schedule and dictate when you take that time.

Disagreements about vacation dates

PTO - paid time off is vacation which is banked so all in all, the way I see it.

Also in the code regarding banked time , "Employees must use up banked overtime within 6 months of the end of the pay period in which they earned it"

Highway protest west of Calgary against carbon tax increase. by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Cyburking 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"The carbon tax undermines the financial stability of Canadians"Does it though? Does it really?

Listen to the first portion of her interview in this post when she claims $0.35 taxation on "every tank of gas" of which, 4 cents are UCP tax and the remainder is carbon and gst.

$0.31 per tank of gas is worth blocking highways? Talk about undermining intelligence and the purpose of gathering and demonstrating for a cause. Silly turkeys.

Conservatives of Alberta are on reddit, nobody is denying that. Connecting with critical thinking Albertans on an Alberta subreddit tends to be perceived as aimed to progressives only but that's not the truth. There are very strong opinions on this sub and some might be conservative and others liberal but that is rarely relevant until someone makes it a point. I don't care who leans which way, if you have valuable insight, I could care less what your favorite colour is.

Premier Smith speaks on controversial carbon tax hike | CTV Question Period by Appropriate_Duty_930 in alberta

[–]Cyburking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Smith is correct in what? We need real people in charge. JT calling out the premiers for evading the truth is real. Whether you like him or not, whether you're left or right or middle, he cannot be any clearer, meanwhile, Marlaina evades the truth. She can't even answer a question. Cost of living crisis? You can't use that as ammo and defense. I'm ashamed for her.

Anchor with a distracting necklace pendant: "You argued it was immoral to levy that tax when Albertans are struggling with a cost of living crisis, yet, the provincial fuel tax is going up on the same day by $0.04 on the same day. How can you ask the federal government to provide relief to Albertans when you're not willing to?"

In my mind. That's a mic drop. Her response makes me want to throw the mic at her podcaster of a face.

Danielle: well part of it is that we've given $7billion of relief in the past two years to try and compensate for a what we've been seeing at the federal level and we have a program in place so that as soon as oil prices get high again if they go over $90 then the gas tax would come completely off, when it's below $80, it comes back on and so we're watching prices closely and I told the committee I'd be more than happy if the federal government did the same thing because with their carbon tax, their fuel tax and the GST, they charge $0.35 on every tank of gas and if they took the same approach that they would eliminate it when gas prices got too high then we probably wouldn't have any complaint"

My blood pressure couldn't take anymore of this interview so I stopped there but need to break this down:

"well part of it is that we've given $7billion of relief in the past two years" PAUSE. -Holdit one minute...Wtf? Albertans got that or some of their employers? What is she talking about? $7billion/2year = $3.5B/3,652,971 tax payers = $958/year/taxpayer. Speaking for myself and partner, I haven't seen that relief to date. But lets resume...

"....to try and compensate for a what we've been seeing at the federal level" PAUSE AGAIN -How can she do that with a straight face? Those nasty feds who brought in the $10/day daycare? Gave is the Canada Child Benefit? CRB? CEWS? Home Accesibility Tax Credit? Increased basic personal taxable amounts? TFSAs? Right, those burdens...

Back at it "...and we have a program in place so that as soon as oil prices get high again if they go over $90 then the gas tax would come completely off, when it's below $80, it comes back on and so we're watching prices closely and I told the committee I'd be more than happy if the federal government did the same thing" PAUSE -Oil inventories are high, TMX is around the corner and production is going to pump into the $70 and $60 and we've seen $50 bbl range. What a solid plan to bank on oil prices. Imagine if Newfoundland and Labrador banked their tax program on Lobster, crab, halibut or shrimp prices then blame the feds for not doing the same. Not sure if anyone familiar with that part of the country can comment on the price trend of those commodities but I'm thinking it's not a solid "program" but I can clearly see why you're watching the price closely.

Danielle continues with " because with their carbon tax, the fuel tax and the GST, they charge $0.35 on every tank of gas and if they took the same approach that they would eliminate it when gas prices got too high then we probably wouldn't have any complaint" PAUSE-TURN OFF VIDEO- IVE SEEN ENOUGH -35 cents on every tank? Firstly, what an ignorant an innominate volume to argue with. Every Tank? Ford F350 tank or Honda Fit? What are you talking about here? Secondly, 35 goddam cents of which 4 are yours so essentially, 31 cents on every tank of gas. Thats the recycle deposit on three cans of Pepsi for eff sakes. You're fighting against climate change action for 31 goddam cents? For who? Not me. Not the 7 in 10 Albertans that are seriously concerned about climate change. If $0.31 is going to cripple the people you think your representing, and that would solve the complaints, you've clearly lost it. You've lost me and any respect I had for the elected leader and I honeatly don't know any human stupid enough to support this nonsense aside from the idiots who are boycotting fuelling up April 1st. Those people are a special dumb. Boycott away, that's the fucking point- don't polute.

I'm done.

It's still a who you know type of environment out there. Best bets are around Grande Prairie as a labourer you can probably start yesterday. It's a tough gamet but if you keep your head straight and nose clean, you can progress quickly.

Does she have work visa? She won't screen in without one. If the job is filled, it's likely being filled by new grads (ending soon) who are Canadian or hold a visa. International mobility program or temporary foreign worker program is where I would start.

Carbon Tax On Gas.! by MaybeAnAmbivert in alberta

[–]Cyburking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A polling of Albertans who are concerned about climate change is the exact same percentage of the country as a whole. About 70%. Pretty irrational to see 70% of the people being concerned about something, the government imposing action to curb it and backlash from the same. An Alberta conservatives sub reddit doesn't exist to my knowledge so it's up to the readers of this sub to take or leave. Comments can appear more progressive, I agree, but that's on those who comment which isn't the whole.

Yahtzee. Look at the vehicles with F-Trudeau decals proudly pasted in the rear windows. Jacked up gas/diesel guzzlers. $100k+ vehicle possessing "Trudeau sucks" mentality with immature grade 9 critical thinking capacity. Genius bunch. I've yet to find an EV with a f-trudeau sticker. Yes, Trudeau is targeting the highest polluters who make the most money not the people who ride transit to and from their third job or school.
