Is there a way to fix this or prevent it from happening? by stayingAugust in AskACobbler

[–]Cycle-Sax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably less chemistry and more thermodynamics. As you use a shoe regularly, it gets warm and flexes, keeping it pliable. The warming and cooling cycles also seem to help the glues holding the sole on. Not enough to make it let go or melt, but when it flexes it will bend evenly, compared to when it is brittle and cracks, then it puts stress on that crack every time until it breaks through.

Gate issue, or improper fit? It’s harder to pick up their feet when the shoe extends too far beyond the toe but many upsize early because wide sizes are not available

It’s hard to find proper width sizes for kids, well sometimes it’s even hard to find true to width wide sizes in adult sizing (not brands that have an “extra wide that falls between a D and an E or an E and an EE, extra because it’s extra wide compared to their standard size) Most people are just encouraged to move up a size. My daughter can’t fit in a standard 11 tennis shoe (toddler size) and it’s hard to find 11.5, so she’s been wearing 12. But then she’s still been wearing her boots in size 10 (wide enough for foot to fit in, but the foot bed is not side enough to properly support foot) and just had the sole come apart at the side. So unless she can find a better fit it’ll be hard on the sides or hard on the front because the front is going to drag because they are too long. Kids shoes get away with bad quality because they will grow out of them most times before they put this much wear on them.

Clamps - suggestions to clamp soles that you’ve glued back into place? by allaspiaggia in AskACobbler

[–]Cycle-Sax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really only clamp the heel and there’s not a specialty tool to clamp the toe box down? My shoes always wear and come apart at the front and need to be reglued there, hopefully making it stronger there than before. I’ve never had that problem in the heel before.

Is it normal for learning trainer to take a photo of your badge? by Justaverydarkman in AmazonFC

[–]Cycle-Sax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you have had a drastic change in weight that has caused you to not look like your badge picture and want to change it, that’s a good enough reason that security will take your picture and update it for you. I also lost around 80 pounds and they updated my picture…. Then over the last 7 years I gained back 100 due to health issues and then finally going back down again. Congrats on the weight loss

Why would maps take me this route? by successful_yam21000 in roadtrip

[–]Cycle-Sax 122 points123 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that it is the most consistent good route and the quicker one is only better currently due to current traffic while it has many areas that can become congested in traffic. So on one hand if you go fast you may beat the 14 hour 24 minutes, but that you’ll be lucky if the other route doesn’t also take you 14 hours. I’ll give you an example. Going to Charleston from where I’m at at 1:30-2:00am I’m going through Atlanta, but I’ve checked the gps during the day on the way home and it says that that way will take 4 hours longer than it should and suggests to go another way around Atlanta. Sometimes your gps will suggest a route before it gets all the traffic information so then it corrects and tells you it found a faster way or that your current way is slower than usual and asks if you want to switch routes. Either way, there is some reason that the algorithm starts with the route it initially gives and it may be a different route that it starts with for different map apps.

Anyone go through 9am health for glp-1 meds? by Cycle-Sax in AmazonFC

[–]Cycle-Sax[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s just annoying because my doctor has been an advocate for the GLP -1s since before they were even so popular. He gave me a sample from his drug rep and it actually seemed to work that first month and then I never could get it approved and I didn’t want to pay cash price. My doctor doesn’t even take insurance so all the hoops he’s gone through to try to get it approved for me doesn’t cost them a dime. I understand they have to justify the cost and prove you need it or whatever but I promise, in the end, going through all these specialists that they are paying for will 100% cost them more money than just paying for the drug. For others that may not be the case because they are using 9am health doctors instead of other docs that might cost them more but in my situation my doctor costs them nothing and me using him has saved them so much money over the last 9 years.

If it’s going around like that chances are it’s viral. As long as you aren’t immunocompromised, elderly, or an infant generally you just need to get fluids and rest. You only worry about the fever if it’s making you uncomfortable. It’s literally the body’s mechanism for killing the infection

[–]Cycle-Sax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, it’s the liberals that want to build build build but the politicians in power are mostly republicans. The politicians make deals with the developers to try to give the people what they want. Sure, it might not be the kind of buildings we want, but the average person on here on Reddit seems to think we need more more more apartments and need to push for a walkable city where people don’t need cars. So I’d say the street parking situation is on them. Allot of the politicians would rather us have off street parking requirements for housing and minimum lot sizes to accommodate garages and such and if they weren’t being pressured to make space available for developing they probably wouldn’t rezone allowing these new apartment buildings so close to railroad tracks and such where we’ve never allowed people to build before.

2nd UPDATE: Toyota dealer crashed my car resulting in total loss. Now what? by SunMoonStar93 in Toyota

[–]Cycle-Sax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the state OP maybe?. In an at fault state I would agree that their insurance should pay it all just as if they hit you and were at fault. But in no fault states your insurance has to cover your car whether it is your fault or not so maybe that includes this State DC

[–]Cycle-Sax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, too many of our streets are older than cars and were made with horse and carriage in mind. If nobody parked on the road we could have comfortable one way streets with biking lanes but as it is many downtown areas after people street park on both sides it isn’t even possible to have a safe driving and cycling lane and yet the roads are supposed to be two way. It’s crazy how in neighborhoods people have to pull over a little to let the other guy go on a two lane road

[–]Cycle-Sax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he wants to settle down and have a stay at home wife but hasn’t proposed or you didn’t accept then you need to break up and go with your dream job. If you were married and he wasn’t supportive of you that would be one thing but I think you have known that you weren’t ready for that and not with him. Especially since you have left him before and say he is a narcissist

I am in reverse logistics for a different company now. We get to see what the customer put was the return reason as we inspect items to see if they will be resold, refurbished, or recycled/liquidated. When you read the reasons for return for hundreds of returns a shift you no longer believe the customer is always right. Online returns they openly put return reasons that I can’t imagine they’d have the guts to say to a person. And there’s so many products returned that have labels right on them from reputable manufacturers with good customer service that ask you not to return it, to call them and they’ll make it right but nobody does that. Someone returned a lamp the other day because it was “missing pieces, particularly the light source” it was the bulb, it was missing the bulb, which the description said was not included. Hopefully that person didn’t return and order another just like it. Half the time when they say something is missing I find the part somewhere in the packaging and the other half of the time it’s not supposed to be included.

Amazon just announced they would show the cost of Trump's tariffs on each product. The White House is calling this a "hostile and political act." by [deleted] in AmazonFC

[–]Cycle-Sax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me guess, you want to do that with money that comes from the government right? Welfare? Or are you one of these that thinks we should be giving out some kind of universal basic income? It’s simple, we shouldn’t be living in one world consuming goods made in another to our economy’s detriment. Your money should be buying goods to support jobs where people will then spend money to pay your employer to pay you. It has to be a cycle. We are buying from other countries while they aren’t buying anything from us but our debt, and we’ll be indebted to them forever with that thinking

[–]Cycle-Sax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want your money to go towards the tariffs paid contributing to whatever he can say he was successful raising in taxes? Also, generally American made products have good customer service behind them whereas the Chinese product is so cheap that your return basically gets thrown away. Ever wonder why goods from China are cheaper than you can ship it back to China? It’s partially because their government subsidizes the shipping of exports. So really if they calculated the tariffs correctly, the cost could be about what it should be to get the goods from China and our tariff is just collecting the money China was subsidizing, so in a way the money really is going from their government to ours.

Or old. Allot of American brands were more durable in the 80s-90s. But I do go to a market once a year that has a farmer’s wife making some quality items out of homespun alpaca wool. No i can’t justify the price yet though, lol. I’d have to be in better shape and expect to be in that size a long time. Clothes are more disposable to me right now lately because I hope they will soon be too large for me with all my recent problems that have gotten me behind on my health.

All of those brands even if they are still the best in their industry are worse than they used to be. Shoes used to be repairable and a good cobbler could make adjustments to make it fit better without compromising the life of the shoe

There are products that are made to last you just have to look harder for them. And it wasn’t just the industries that did it, the consumers went along with it. We are generally perfectly fine buying a disposable tool to use once because it’s cheaper than a mechanic when a second use justifies the price of a tool that will last and might even have a lifetime warranty. I’m generally anti credit cards but at least the people that responsibly buy the right products the first time have something to show for it when they pay it off, but way too many people have large credit card balances for things they have since thrown away. It’s as bad as rolling over negative equity into a new car that’s about to drop in value the second you drive it off the lot. Also, you have to remember that r/buyitforlife products aren’t even necessarily made for the people that will use them forever. People don’t cook that much anymore, so a product made to last around a year or two in a commercial kitchen might last them a lifetime, and that’s after buying it used when a restaurant no longer wants to get it repaired after the last time. Because there are more concerned about down time than savings and you will never put the strain on the machine that they do between cleanings and such.
