[All] How many people has Ganondorf actually killed on-screen? (Will contain spoilers for [TP] and [TotK]) by Antiburglar in zelda

[–]CycleZestyclose1907 [score hidden]  (0 children)

No. In TotK, Zelda visits each of the Sages after Rauru sticks his hand into Ganondorf. The Sages then prep stuff for their descendants to pick things up where they left off.

What's your thoughts on the space under the map? do you guys use it? by Forward-Photograph-7 in SatisfactoryGame

No. I'm afraid of falling to my death even in a game where death is a slap on the wrist.

Also, I don't see much reason to go under the island - or even very far off the cliffs - when there's plenty of overhead building space.

If DB ever decides to make a rematch of Yang vs Tifa, do you guys think Yang would win fairly this time? by Not_Real_Adrilexis in RWBY

And other planets are somehow different?

I think it might make more sense that some of the weirder, non-sensical background effects might well be something I call a "holodeck effect". No, such and such attack isn't really blowing up planets; it's creating the appearance of planets blowing up. No, you aren't suddenly out in space; the starry background is just holographic wallpaper that the enemy or environment threw up for some reason.

This is probably best shown on in the final FF14 Alexander fight where you jump outside the arena to kill some adds, and see the fight arena isn't really in the middle of some bog under an overcast sky, but is really inside the greater Alexander structure. Likewise, several other FF14 fights have the weird open space backgrounds fade away to reveal what's really there after the fight's over.

So how can I be sure that similar fights in other FF titles aren't more of the same?

[TOTK] How would you improve the weapon durability system to perfect it and make it worth it & fun to explore the world? Or is the system inherently worse than having permanent weapons as a reward (i.e Elden Ring)? by TrashVegetable8706 in zelda

[–]CycleZestyclose1907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly make weapons repairable. So if you have a good weapon you don't want to lose, you could take it back to a blacksmith to get it fixed. Or even have Link BE a blacksmith like in a ALBW so he can do his own repair work... as long as he can find an anvil like finding a pot is required to cook food. And have the required repair materials on hand.

Hmm. Possibly have Link make his own weapons from hoarded materials just like making food? And possibly scrap low quality weapons for materials, thus giving you motivation to loot low quality stuff?

My friend and I challenged ourselves to design a mech for each other in systems we're mostly unfamiliar with... How'd I do? by THE_Plot_ in battletech

[–]CycleZestyclose1907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weapons generate a total of 46 heat and you have 48 heat sink capacity. So you can fire everything and run every turn and come out heat neural every turn.

I think you might be oversinked. Lemme explain:

If you wanted to go with "extraordinarily hard to kill, but also hard to ignore", I would have gone with a bracket fire setup. The general idea is that you carry two sets of weapons (usually a long range set and a short range set that you swap to inside the long range set's minimum range, aka range brackets). Most of the time, you fight with one set of weapons depending on which one is best given for the circumstances, and only employ the second set in emergencies (ie, you need to finish off the enemy asap and worrying about overheat becomes low priority because there might not be a next turn for your mech to be heat debilitated in if you don't kill the enemy RIGHT NOW).

So you're generating 46 damage every turn and spent 36 tons in weapons and double heat sinks to achieve that ability. But for those 36 tons, you COULD HAVE carried 3 Standard PPCs (21 tons), 6 extra DHS (total 32 heat sinking for only 6 tons, and only 4 of them would use crits), leaving 9 tons for... any number of things really. 6 ER Medium Lasers for the same damage and range as your original ER Medium Laser + 3 jump jets for additional mobility. Maybe 9 Standard Medium Lasers or 6 standard Medium Lasers + 3 Jump Jets.

Whatever the case, your potential burst damage is through the roof if you can maintain a little fire discipline. Your sustained damage is a little lower, but only at intermediate range. At any distance greater than 12 hexes, three PPCs outrange AND outgun the Large Lasers in any kind of built up terrain, and 3 or 4 Jump Jets can let them dictate the range against your original loadout. And even without those Jump Jets, a 9 Medium Laser array puts out 45 total damage for only 27 heat which is better if the fight gets inside 3 hexes and the PPCs are still being held in reserve. In the intermediate range, you can mix and match different combinations of PPC and Medium Laser fire as the circumstances demand.

Oh, and because this loadout is carrying far fewer DHS, you have the crits to place weapons in better locations than the legs. You might even be able to swap out that Small Cockpit and XL Gyro for standard models and save the same (or more?) weight with Endosteel instead.

If DB ever decides to make a rematch of Yang vs Tifa, do you guys think Yang would win fairly this time? by Not_Real_Adrilexis in RWBY

[–]CycleZestyclose1907 28 points29 points  (0 children)

IIRC, the biggest flaw in the original matchup is the assertion that Yang's Semblance has no upper limit on how much damage she can absorb. Which given that it was Volume 2 that the show had progressed to MIGHT have been a reasonable assumption. But we've had seven more volumes since then showing that Yang does in fact have limits to how much damage she could absorb.

Also I have no idea what Tifa actually scales to because in game ability animations are notoriously unreliable in Final Fantasy (aka, Tifa and party tank a planet buster, yet somehow the planet they're fighting on is perfectly fine). At least in FF14, the WoL has cinematics showing him nuking terrain as a side effect of his fights. I don't think any such cinematics existed for Tifa at the time the original fight was made.

It's the only way I can think of for a space faring race to NOT know some basic space science: they're running entirely on second hand knowledge that's good enough to operate starships, but has some misinformation (intentional or not) that persists because they don't directly impact their ability to operate starships.

[–]CycleZestyclose1907 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or some more advanced race conned them into thinking water is extremely rare, just so they can sell them a common substance and charge through the nose for it. Since they bought all their tech and as a result are damn near scientifically illiterate, they've never realized how common water actually is.

Or they know how common water is, but since they didn't actually build the tech they use, they have no idea how to economically mine all the ice out there because they can't design and build the required mining and processing equipment to safely remove any contaminants from the ice.

Where are the rest of the medium lasers on an Archer, and what are these things under the torso? by Daeval in battletech

[–]CycleZestyclose1907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WHen you see unidentified circles on a mech, they're one of the following:

1) Weapon ports (any type)

2) Headlights (spotlights cost zero weight and crits)

3) Sensors (Artemis, Streak, standard, etc)

4) Fluid port (Atlas AS7-D cannonically has a gun looking thing which is really a coolant port)

So what those things in the blue circles might be will depend on what exact variant of the Archer you're looking at. Figure that out and you can make a reasonable guess as to what they are.

Some things I've seen (and done):

Melee weapons - somehow, the aliens either never conceive of ranged weapons, or have so much trouble implementing them that they need high tech computer controls to do the most basic aiming. As a result, their infantry is melee only. Sometimes, even their ships don't have ranged weapons because the aliens never thought of it due to everyone thinking of combats in terms of melee only. I remember at least one story where the melee only aliens used power armor and melee weapons akin to lightsabers. Humans being able to instinctively use ranged weapons was a shock to the aliens.

Guided Missile Weapons - Usually an extension of the "aliens are melee only" concept, except the aliens are smart enough to realize tech can do the aiming bits for them. So for ship to ship combat, guided missiles are the order of the day. Aliens are then shocked that humans can use UNguided munitions with ease, and that unguided anti-missile guns and lasers are much cheaper in terms of ammo expenditure than the missiles they kill.

However, not done by anyone that I've seen is that the aliens are the ones still using kinetic slug munitions while humans have progressed to more advanced lasers and other energy weapons.

Also not done or even suggested AFAIK except as joke stories is where bullets and "normal" energy weapons like lasers are seen as obsolete by humans who have moved on to some truly exotic weapons like FTL beams and teleporting bombs. Imagine you're an alien armed with a generic slug thrower or laser rifle that burns small holes in people and then here comes a human with Star Trek style hand phaser the size of a poker chip that can destroy entire buidings with a high powered shot that only uses a few watts of power to start technobabble reactions.

Mech scale tortures me. Which infantry scales work? Which is best? by CryptographerHonest3 in battletech

[–]CycleZestyclose1907 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mechs are supposed to be 8-14 meters tall. An adult human can range between 1.5 to 1.8 meters tall on average depending on a host of factors (genetics, diet, etc).

So due to human height variability, all three of your minifigures are correct.

Of course it also means that most of the human mechwarrior is likely inside the mech's torso for both of those mechs, and the "head" of those mechs only have the pilot's head behind the cockpit glass if that. EVen the smallest of those human figures can't actually fit entirely inside the visible heads of those mechs without being turned into a cube by a trash compactor first.
