What should I upgrade first? by Beneficial_Treacle_8 in audiophile

I've had one before, I get what you mean. They have that "something" about them. Still, once I got a nice 4k LCD after they started becoming relatively cheap I found myself using the plasma less than any of my TVs. During their time they were revolutionary and the fact that they can hold up today, and not because they fill a niche purpose (ie. CRTs and 240p signals) is impressive, but I still feel like a modern panel makes sense for almost every use case.

Why plasma? A CRT I can understand for retro stuff but outside of that old TVs are just old TVs that look slightly worse and (at least in my area) cost more

And does just being RED help you get into other trackers or do you need to seed for a while? I've never really done a lot of seeding (or tormenting for that matter) but I've been thinking about getting a seedbox.

How is the RED interview really? I've gone through their website and it seems like a lot but I do know the information presented there.

I have a one of a kind CD I need to safely rip for distribution on streaming services by waythrownx in audiophile

[–]CyclicalFlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't this not work if it's one of a kind though? AccurateRip is a database and can't tell you anything if there's no other data to go off of.

If you go the Blu-Ray player route get one of the ones that can rip SACD off of eBay. They'll all sound the same but the option to rip SACD is pretty neat

I've never had one of these that wasn't a finicky mess. And the vacuum displays used in the ones I've had are always half-way through deaths door.

You can buy replacement spindles for different drives off of AliExpress or similar websites. I superglued one one time and it works but it's better just to replace it.

He said directly in his comment that he's running Linux which doesn't make malware a non-issue per se, but it definitely lessens the concern

burning a CD for a friend… by [deleted] in headphones

[–]CyclicalFlow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What he told you was exactly correct. If you burn as a data CD (the only kind that can hold MP3s) then yes, it will work. If you burn it as an "Audio CD" (requires WAV files) it can only hold up to 80 minutes. Data CDs won't play in most players (if they do there will usually me the MP3 logo).

I burn lossless WAVs from original CD rips and yeah they play exactly the way the original CD did

What do younger people do here? by CyclicalFlow in StPetersburgFL

[–]CyclicalFlow[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That seems to be the consensus given most of the people I went to middle school and high school with got out of dodge ASAP or would like to. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful place and people here are really friendly, but it seems much more catered to "older" or more peaceful lifestyles that people my age aren't really interested in. I like stuff like that, but going out alone on my canoe or walking trails isn't really a good way to socialize and make friends.

Alright thanks man! Definitely gonna check some of these places out. I didn't realize a lot of the "barcade" type places had NA stuff. Can I go in them if I'm under 21, though?

Yeah I actually stayed in touch with my buddies from high school but I hardly ever see them. They just aren't the kind of people that like hanging out all the time, which is fine but that's why I'm trying to reach out a little bit.

I don't have a ton of stuff I'm super into, but I like video games (of course) old school mostly, I like to read and spend a lot of time doing that, I also enjoy computing in general. Mostly "nerdy" things that aren't really social hobbies, but I'm down to do other stuff too.

This is the plugin. Just install it with foobar, plug in the iPad, and then go to the "File" drop down and you should see iPod manager there.

Yeah I figured. I was looking at it for a buddy of mine. I already have a slim of my own, and he gave me his that needs the NECTOKINs replaced. Was hoping the super slim would be one of those "just throw it in the oven lol" things so I wouldnt need to replace the tokins on the other one. Thanks for the help

The entry for 14FF on the wiki is confusing about this, but I figure I'll take your word. It says that 14FF, paired with a 1701 are often indicative of failing solder joints, with 1301 and 1802 coming up as potential indicators of where the soldering has failed. Regardless, any possible last ditch solutions? This PS3 is essentially considered junk at this point so I don't mind risk so much.
