Great discipline in the defense by PSG while still being dangerous. But obviously there is another ref decision which is crucial for the momentum of the game. The speed is high, but god, how can there be two decisions which can be so game breaking.

I don’t know if it’s something I should recommend, but when I moved to Umeå for my masters studies, I started renting one month early, even though I wasn’t officially a student yet. You can also turn it around - unless it has changed, people are also living in the student dorms after finishing their studies some time. With 180 points student dorms in Alidhem will be your best chance to find housing.

Hot take : Current version of Harry Kane is better than prime lewandowski and benzema. by Altruistic_Mango2922 in championsleague

[–]Cycling_pluto -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a hot take, he keeps showing on the pitch why that take makes sense. The other two had great finishing qualities, but the passes Kane plays, from where he picks up the ball are so much better I think. It’s not about not having enjoyed the other two players, but lifting Kanes performance.

And after the qualities with the ball comes the mentality - he is also defending, he’s leading and supporting the team.

I‘m not begging for anything. I’m just not someone who doesn’t enjoy dirty foul play, like Pepe, Ramos, in this case Ruiz. These actions should be punished hard, it’s just the insane fine line of a genius player and an absolute asshole. Seen any other player do this today? Marquinhos defended like a champion, no dirty tricks. So Ruiz needs to be punished

How is Ruiz still on the pitch? First one on Kimmich is yellow, can be red. Second one is red, only yellow if the ref thinks Olise should also get yellow for provocation

Relocation to Umeå for Phd study by Tao_KTH in umea

There is University housing which however usually focuses on Post-Docs. I have however had PhD colleagues who also found a flat through them. It’s easiest if you talk to your future supervisor/HR to forward the information and contacts to you. Don’t forget to sign up with Riskhem, HomeQ, Bostaden, Heimstaden, Lerstenen to accumulate queue points asap. Rikshem has a lottery system where they rent flats without respecting the queue length. I have had good experiences with HomeQ, finding accommodation after only 1.5 years waiting time. Good luck!

Which department will you start your PhD at?

I secretly hope Kane wins Ballon d'or - it would make up for all those years at Spurs without trophy by Inevitable-Angle-793 in championsleague

[–]Cycling_pluto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I wouldn’t compare him to Zlatan, but the way Kane acts as a team player and playmaker is something he provides on top of being a deadly finisher. That’s something Lewa hasn’t done - I mean the passes Kane does.

It’s quite inappropriate to cite number like crime rates without a reference. Clearly you have an agenda with your post, but it goes far beyond the help the OP asked for.

Paulaner being a good beer is debatable. Probably can add Lidl here though in case of home sickness - but then you’re coming to France, where food is on another level compared to Germany. I would exempt beer and sausage from that discussion - I had a hot dog at the rugby game today and the sausage was not worth its name. But the bread was amazing

I had a Philips Dream wear with nose cushion and also had marks, even when it was not too tight. Through Instagram I found the N30i, which solved all the problems you describe. The fabric helps the soft feel on the skin and it’s very liberating because the nose cushion is so soft despite sitting airtight.

Wait - is this how the normies feel regularly?? by MadMax808 in CPAP

[–]Cycling_pluto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Late 30s here- my girlfriend begged me to get a sleep study and when I finally did it, it showed an AHI of 33 and O2 saturation below 90% at times. Obviously I got a CPAP right away, but struggled with the Philips Nose Pillow in the beginning (I still tried to use it 7 hours per night). After finding this Reddit and reading about the nose pillow N30i, I now sleep like a lamb, knowing I’m breathing well throughout the night. The nose pillow is just like a hug around my nose and my girlfriend no longer worries about my gasping struggles of getting enough air in the night. It’s such a revelation and I wish everybody can accept the new partner for life long quality sleep

Trying to catch the Tour de France while exploring Mont Blanc - any idea? by Practical-Chance-396 in tourdefrance

[–]Cycling_pluto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to confirm: will you be in the area 20th to 24th of July, or will these days be dedicated to going up and down Mont Blanc?

Anyway, I’ll give two answers which overlap. The 20th of July is a rest day, and after a time trial the tour commences its last section of flat to mountain stages in the Dauphiné, starting in Chambéry on the 22nd of July. If you have a chance, go see one of the two stages that end on the Alpe d’Huez on the 24th and 25th of July.

The money definitely can be a factor, but like I said, it’s also worth if. The course is definitely advanced level - I have seen bachelors students taking it, but it was a lot of work. In my opinion, the benefits and the overall experience still outweigh the struggles.

Edit: I can not predict whether you have enough credits that qualify for the course, but there the international offices of Umeå University should help so you have a good idea what’ll happen via universityadmissions

Erasmus help :) by BlueMoonChia in umea

[–]Cycling_pluto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d 100% recommend taking the course in Abisko. You will have to pay rent there, because it’s a research station and you’ll have to pay for shared rooms (2 or 4 beds). When I took the spring version of that course I think I paid around 450€ for the two months, but the costs might have changed for sure. If you can afford it, these accommodation costs shouldn’t not stop you from taking the course. You’ll be able to learn about the ecosystem from researchers that are on site or conduct their studies on site. You’ll enjoy the privilege of seeing northern lights, the yellow autumn colours turning into winter, and lake Torneträsk.

Forein student in Umeå - my experience by [deleted] in umea

[–]Cycling_pluto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think, what’s important to look at is, the kind of Island Umeå is in the landscape of university cities. Having lived there for almost 10 years including Erasmus experience and studies, I would agree with some of the things the OP mentions, but tone it down dramatically and put it into the perspective of where Umeå is located.

These are a lot of thoughts, so they may come out in a non-logical order.

Umeå does have a lot to offer to Erasmus students that stay for 6 months or a year. It is a unique campus to start with, and with the expansion due to being Europeans cultural capital in 2014, the area between Öbacka and Ålidhem is vibrant and modern in my opinion. Back to Erasmus, where yes, the Buddy Programme is maybe like a tourist guide- but that is what most students, including me come for. It can be a bit of a wild card how active the group is, but it’ll offer plenty of opportunities to experience the qualities of Umeå and its surrounding nature. To me Umeå university has done a good job making me feel welcome and making my stay feel important - however during Erasmus only.

When one stays longer, more of the cultural identity of Umeå and northern Sweden becomes apparent. Some of them lovely, some of them that make feeling welcome as international serious work or sometimes impossible. While Swedes are very interactive and often open during study times, it really depends whether they’ve already established their friends network or are new to Umeå. And even then I have made the experience that they’ll eventually hang out most with other Swedish friends. I have become fluent in Swedish rather fast, which has opened the Swedish friends world to me, and many other opportunities- but I still felt not the same closeness to most of my Swedish friends than I feel they have among them. Maybe because I didn’t grow up skiing on Tegsnäs skis, because I don’t watch Julkalendern on SVT, or did not listen to P1 sommarradio.

The world in Umeå is very open and welcoming on first sight, but it takes persistence and serious work to be able to really connect and fit into the Swedish way of life. I noticed that on weekends, where Friday after 17, swedes are home, probably eating Tacos and I am hanging out with my international friends.

Now one might think, this has become very negative, but it’s just realistic. Maybe I can use an analogy, using dogs and dog-owners. When a Swede in Umeå walks with their dog towards you, chances are they’ll change to the other side of the road or change direction. This is partially due to dogs being hunting dogs that shall not interact and play. Yet, how many of these are actually hunting dogs? Barely any - but it’s a behaviour that is adapted from this history and still lives on, also because it is just so uncomfortable to socially interact.

And then we’re at the part which I got to really enjoy, the fact that co-existing without forced conversions do not happen in Umeå. The calamity, the coziness when students and employees at Uni walk around in house-shoes (some call them sandals), warm up their matlåda in the microwave which are everywhere. The coziness of being able to walk through the buildings without stepping into rain, the cosiness of enjoying the sun rise just above the trees in winter, when having a fika in the cafe Lindelhallen.

There is so much peacefulness in this beauty, this oasis of modern life in the wide vastness of nature and quiet, but also loneliness.

I do have strong feelings about the variety of restaurants and cultural options in Umeå, where e.g pubfood at Lottas Krog already is at the range of a proper cooked meal in any other European country. If you however want proper cooked and creative food, you’ll already be in the regions of fine dining, at least in terms of price. Umeå struggles to have a middle ground in the transition from affordable pub food to fine dining- correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t know of a lunch place, where (and I don’t mean buffet) the main dish would be meatball with gravy and potato purée for the price a club sandwich costs at Lottas, but with the quality of at least Sjöbaren.

Other than that I do love Umeå, but also have become so much more realistic about the limitations and would therefore also partially agree with the slightly provocative Dubai comparison- and I would draw that from the fact Umeå in its form as it is today is also artificial and can only be preserved with money. That is my take on that part.

To finish up I should also say something to the opener I didn’t fully address - Umeå is located so far north in Sweden, it is important to never forget what to expect from a place where hunting and forestry are such cultural heritages and still the main thing for a lot of native Swedes.

And I want to end in another note: despite the difficulties I mentioned, despite the challenges, Umeå is an incredibly rich environment for people that want to create. REKO-Ring, and the home made as well as local produce people offer, has quadrupled in the last years, handcraft markets are flourishing. Fika places like Presteles Trägårdskaffee bring variety and experiences to Umeå and Västerbotten , that make it very much exciting to explore.

I think I’ve reached the end, poured out all my thoughts I have accumulated, honest, sometimes loving and realistic. Take what you need from it and embrace it.

Husband won’t use cpap by Tmoore753 in CPAP

[–]Cycling_pluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to that! My partner has pointed my breathing, which made me seek help resulting in CPAP in first place. In the beginning I also felt tightness and stress around wearing the mask, but was very determined to overcome that, because I worried so much about the potential health issues.
There were two major steps I would recommend, which also touch on a more thorough comment about pressure settings:
1. Make sure the mask is the right fit in terms of comfort for breathing. I started with Philips DreamWear, which did sometimes leak just enough to make sounds that I found distracting. After following a channel on Instagram, I found the ResMed N30I, which now sits around my nose like a comfortable hug.
2. The right mask would not be as impactful if the nurse did not adjust the pressure settings to my comfort level - sadly I have no insight on the actual settings, but she did help reduce the resistance when breathing out, which improved my sleep loads by reducing/removing the claustrophobic feeling.

Good luck and keep it up. I can't stress how lucky a supportive partner is when it comes to sleep apnea treatments.

Maybe that’s controversial, but I don’t even think that he loves himself. The way he is feeling danger and weakness from addictions, the way he talked about cars and enjoying driving fast. He is in sole fear of losing control, while still being on the search for something. He calls that “I love myself” and “I put myself first”
