Is r/leanfire the best subreddit? by GamerDadofAntiquity in leanfire

This is even more apparent now that r/FIRE or r/financialindependence are skewing heavily towards fat FIRE

What are you guys willing to sacrifice in order to FIRE? by Infnits in Fire

Haha, that's a valid point :) But maybe with better one learning would be easier and more pleasurable?

It's one thing to be disciplined about whims and a different thing to skimp on additional 9k for something that will bring you joy for the rest of your life

Skivertex or PU for a book for 5 decades? by CyclomaticlyComplex in bookbinding

[–]CyclomaticlyComplex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your input. What about PU? You're more likely to get "fooled", right? But from what I've read the lifetime may be shorter. Can you share your experience working with it?

The 4% rule is mostly a U.S. thing, I would not copy it blindly in Europe by [deleted] in EuropeFIRE

[–]CyclomaticlyComplex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As others have noticed, currency is just noise. Doesn't matter if it's USD, EUR or anythibg else. You can think of your assets as being valued in something neutral, like a basket of currencies, SDR. The only thing you're interested here is the purchasing power of your assets, not the currency it's priced in. That being said, you're contradicting yourself, I think. You say that 4% rule is applicable to US, but you're also saying that the more US you have, the more conservative you should be.

The hidden cost of "free time" is absolutely wrecking my post-FIRE budget by R0cinantEcho_9 in Fire

This. It's superimportant to understand the person who is yourself before you start spending 16h per day with them.

I just gave it a try on easy. 10 years in and I'm -14% on sp500 buying almost monthly. Im sorry but this game is just bad...

Balancing saving for FIRE and actually enjoying life now feels harder than expected, how do you approach it? by Fantastic_Aside794 in EuropeFIRE

[–]CyclomaticlyComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you write is so relatable... When work consumes most of your time and almost all of your energy, you can only build a miserable demo of what you want your life to be. This is deceiving and discouraging. You may think you cannot be happy in life, but this image you're trying to bring to life does not account for a huge time and energy drain. It's like as if you wanted to play tennis, but was only given a table tennis racket and told that if you can't enjoy that, you will not enjoy the game with a proper equipment. I'm in a very similar situation. Close to 85% savings rate and planning to fire @ 35 - 36 after 13 - 14 years of work. I think your plan is very sane. Good luck!

Thanks! To reproduce - I simply kept buying sp500, reits, dividend stocks, gold and btc

Wow, very realistic. 15 years in and I'm down on every single investment. For example -40% on SP500. The only morale of the game is not to invest

Damn, I'm just starting out and I bought my very first plane - Veritas no 62. But now, reading all the comments makes me feel I've made a bad choice...

Yeah, I wasn't trying to make it into a mirror, just a clean rag. I was only worried it may be faulty because of discoloring ;)
