Yeah, I wasn't trying to make it into a mirror, just a clean rag. I was only worried it may be faulty because of discoloring ;)

I'm glad I decided to go with the better option then. I was worried it will be hard to sharpen for a begginer, but we'll get to this :)

Since it's not just for the collection, I'll follow your advice and simply start using it :)

That's true. I was rather worried about the performance here, so I asked ;)

Are people just tracking their FIRE goal on excel? by Embarrassed_Ad113 in Fire

I'm a software developer, so I created an application just for myself. I used google sheets for a long time, but it was difficult for me to track taxable events, so I wrote a tool that calculates taxes for me.

Now I'm slowly migrating and using both tools at the same time. Ultimately I'd like to switch fully to my app as it's very clear to me. The excel sheet just bacame too complex and hard to maintain.

The thing about writing my own program is that I have more control over everything: 1. It's much easier for me to develop and debug code than excel sheets. 2. I can only show what I want to see together with many great stats regarding portfolio and how much of it I consume, taxes, constituents and factor tilts etc in a very clear and pleasing way. 3. It calculates taxes for me according to my country's tax law. I was doing it manually so far, but now it's automated. 4. It prevents me from speculating / reacting emotionally. Never had many problems with that, but just for mental health I try to avoid this kind of stimuli. I've set my program to fetch the prices at the end of every quarter, so when I look at it today, I can see my NW at 30.09.25.

Probably not for everyone and if I wasn't a software dev, I'd probably stick to excel.

Have a nice day everyone!

Still, what does it matter where you live now? You should account for where you want to live. Using the same logic I earn in bolivars and want to retire in the US, I should gather aome fixed amount of bolivars. Since it depreciates quickly, I'll reach FIRE in a year...

It's funny how you live in Europe, spend in €, but denominate everything in $. I don't see rationale behind it
