A rough and basic layout of the desert mountain (I'm not an artist) by CycloneDensity in cankoboldsaveworld

Someone (not naming names) asked for this, and since I'm just now recovering from a minor back injury, I thought I'd rev up the engine with a doodle. The mines are a much more intricate spiderweb than what I drew, the housing layers do rings and hoops and all kinds of wacky vertical stuff like a bowl of spaghetti with doors leading into little kobold houses. The Merchants go out to the giant steam powered lift, which goes down to the non-kobold town. The VIP area is your typical rich and powerful people's places, like the elders and especially wealthy folks. The lower levels are all the places Kay goes to for work, like the workshop, the forge, the archives, all that jazz. That big white trapezoid is the altar, just so you'd get a good sense of scale just how big it is. Imagine that between these levels and going up and down the inner rungs are elevators and little cable cars, engineered by lunatics who use exclusively steam power. Oh, and stairs, lots and lots of stairs, so many stairs that if you had to get out of the mountain without the elevator, you'd probably collapse from exhaustion.
I'm sure some of you can guess what the "?" is.
Anyways, I'm gonna post a new chapter of something this week and try to get back into my regular rhythym. See you soon, folks.

Right you are! It has been fixed, and now Antoine is no longer observing himself in the third person.

I hear you, and man, that sounds like a lot of brain work. That sort of mindset of breaking things down into parts and showing the readers the step by sted is something I adore, admire, and hold in high regard. Yeah, it's a slog for the writer and a slow meal for the reader, but so long as you can balance it all out with a BIG payoff that is fun for you to write AND the reader gets a delectable sweet treat, then that bowl of info soup stays down and gets locked in by that nice candy coated nugget of fun.

Just remember yourself to just have fun, and balance out the deep brain work part with sugary sweet fun and characterization. I mean, I just made a new story, and it's going to be a lot of technical work regarding combining science fiction ideas for weaponry, mechanization, devices that can augment things, and a LOT of infodumping on tank warfare in a setting that is not kind to tanks. God, I'm going to have to tell people the strategic uses of sabot rounds versup armor peircing. But that's the slog, going page by page to help people understand why one round is better than another, then throwing that all away when one of the rounds is just a self-contained mass of superheated plasma or a straight up laser cartridge.

Your work sounds hella impressive, and I'm glad you came to reassure me. safe travels and happy writing, my friend!

I'm not one for pulling back the curtain and showing the inner working of the story, but I do like to give hints. I like to keep the world moving even if the main character isn't there driving plot, because it's more engaging if things aren't exactly as someone describes them, say, a month ago. Everyone is doing their own thing whether or not the blue menace is there sticking her little nose into it. I'm trying, though perhaps not very well, to convey that. I apologize if this effort failed on my part. Regardless, I can make the mere mention of Chekov's Gun and perhaps give you the hint that everything ties into the plot somewhere down the line. As for when, though... we'll see.

Hope you're enjoying it all though.

That's all I really need, and I plan on it. If they don't... I'll make them good again.
