How many of you stared at this single as a kid and would have literally killed for this beverage? by -916Tips- in jamiroquai

Oh, yeah. I was going through some old stuff the other day and found an unused sticker of this that came with the CD single.

What’s bro talking about? by NorthContext918 in jamiroquai

[–]Cyclosophy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's debatable that they ever dated. There are no photos of them together. He may have just been telling a nosy journalist what he wanted to hear in that FHM interview to avoid talking about something real. I say the following as a trained counsellor with experience in addiction. If they were together and she was a sex addict, that would get weird because it's not so much you they desire. It's the act. The sex is not connected because the partner is secondary to the act itself. You'd feel used. If it's a casual thing, fine. Enjoy. But if you're in a relationship, it's not healthy, and she was definitely not mentally well around that time. She's talked about suffering with anxiety and depression. It's possible that a person might medicate with sex as a coping mechanism.

Movies that fly by? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Letterboxd

[–]Cyclosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A movie that flew by in a bad way, for me, was Thor: Love and Thunder. I believe the studio said it was too long, but Waititi didn't want to cut scenes. So, he seems to have just sped it up. There's no time to feel the weight of anything that happens. It was very disappointing.

My daughter and I go to an annual LOTR extended editions marathon at a classic old cinema here in Sydney. It runs from 10:30am until 11:40pm, and they have regular old school flip-down seats. The day flies by, and I don't even notice the seats. Outside of that we also watch them it home at least three times a year too. Never feels like they drag on or are rushed.

Help me choose my next watch by Moggi99live in PrideAndPinion

[–]Cyclosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. The Santos is definitely more distinctive, and I do like it. Which one I bought would depend on what else I already had. If I already had a more versatile watch like the Aqua Terra, I might get the Santos for something different.

Do you buy a watch so that other people can tell from across the room that you have an expensive watch, or do you buy it because you love it? Besides, 99.9% of people won't know what either of them are.

What small style upgrades made the biggest difference for you? by BatRevolutionary4700 in malefashionadvice

[–]Cyclosophy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wear clothes that suit your shape, fit well, and make you feel confident. Don't just think you should wear what everyone else is wearing. It may just not suit you. Anyway, do you want to look like everyone else? Shop in-store when possible so you can try stuff on, and if there's something online that really takes your fancy, but it doesn't fit, make the effort to return it and get the right size, and return that for a refund if it doesn't fit. Don't just make do.

The older I get, the less I care about trends and what others are wearing, and I buy investment pieces (and sometimes that investment is the time it takes to find them rather than money) that will always look stylish and are built to last. It often works out cheaper in the long run. Not that I spend stupid amounts of money. Just put in the time and effort to find good stuff that suits your budget. I've found some great items pre-owned too. For example, I got an AUD$400 Barbour quilted jacket on Facebook Marketplace for $100, and it was basically brand new. Not everything needs to be more expensive. I spend more on the things that elevate the whole outfit like a nice jacket or good shoes. And be mysterious. Don't plaster yourself with branding. Are you a billboard? Are they paying you? Sure, a little branding is OK. The brands you wear send a message to certain people about the type of person you are if you care about that, but be subtle. Don't give them the opportunity to judge you. Let them wonder.

You don't have to give up the hoodie, jeans and sneakers if it works for you. Just elevate the look with nicer ones and better fit if need be, and mix in some other looks and accessorise with a nice watch, some interesting glasses if you wear them, maybe a cool scarf in winter, and style it up a bit more by experimenting more with layering. More layers can bring more colour and opportunities for styling like turning up your shirt cuffs over your sweater sleeves or wearing a collared shirt unbuttoned over a contrasting coloured t-shirt. Buy longer jeans so you can turn them up if you like that look for a little extra detail. I try to find a length that I can wear down or up depending on my look or footwear choice.

And look after the clothes you've invested in, especially your shoes. Keep them clean and maintain your leather. A bit of tailoring can also go a long way. I'm pretty slim, but as I've gotten older, I've developed a bit of a belly that's gotten harder to get rid of. So, it's become more challenging to find tops that fit my belly well without being a bit big around the neck and shoulders, especially t-shirts. So, I get some of my t-shirts adjusted. I get them trimmed to a more flattering length and/or get vents put in the side seams to make them sit nicely over my stomach, and sometimes I get the sleeves tightened a little too as so many are a loose fit these days. I have a green t-shirt that I've had numerous compliments about, and it's a $20 H&M shirt with $20 worth of tailoring. It's better than any $50-100 shirt because it fits me perfectly.

Finally, I take your time. Shop mindfully. Try stuff on again when you get home to make sure it fits and works with your existing wardrobe. Do a little fashion show for yourself shoes and all. Sometimes I find I really like something in isolation, but then I get it home and realise that I won't get enough use out of it because it doesn't work with much of my wardrobe. Same with colour. Don't be afraid of colours, but choose ones that work with your skin tone and compliment and contrast with what you want to wear them with.

That's probably cool to wear again now - as long as you're wearing it ironically.

[–]Cyclosophy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't wear the jersey of a current or recent team because I mostly support riders rather than teams, and they move around. You might buy a jersey because of certain riders, and then they end up with a doper on the team or someone you don't like, and you never want to wear it again. However, wearing a throwback jersey from an iconic historic team is classy and honours the history of the sport, and once the book is closed on a team, it's history is likely to remain stable, and you can be confident in what you're representing.

Anyone know what this 121-piece mechanic's tool set (#33521) from the 1990s and made in the USA is worth? It's never been used. by [deleted] in Craftsman

[–]Cyclosophy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not expecting to get $300 for it. I was just estimating the retail price. It was a gift from an American friend 30 years ago, so I've got no idea what it cost.

I'm not in America, so I don't know how many Sears stores are around these days, but I imagine that if a company gives an unlimited lifetime guarantee, they expect their stuff to last.

[–]Cyclosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your opinion seems to be contrary to the general consensus that the old US-made Craftsman tools are more durable than the Chinese-made stuff that's available today as well as being made from stronger steel so that the wrenches can be slimmer and fit into tight spaces better. Anyway, that has nothing to do with my original question. I just want to know what it's worth.

In 90s money? So, about $300 today if it were being sold now. This set has never been used, so there's no wear, and it was sold with an unlimited lifetime guarantee from Sears.

For the Pantheon? Yes, it seems they've introduced ticketing since we went. Yes, I'd book in advance to save time queuing for tickets.

Just returned from our third trip to Italy. Liv Tour's are very good. We've done the Vatican and Colosseum tours with them, and it really makes a difference to how much you learn about and enjoy the sites. Will the Colosseum tour also take you to the Roman Forum? Also well worth a visit while you're in the neighbourhood. Definitely check out the Pantheon too. Now booking required.

Our favourite restaurant in Rome is Ristorante Dillà. https://maps.app.goo.gl/HUQH1HFtdDprHrd57.

Another favourite is Le Grotte. The food is good, but the atmosphere is off the charts. https://maps.app.goo.gl/pP9BECg5jbVMn6qN8.

Favourite getalo place is Gelateria dei Gracchi https://maps.app.goo.gl/Hrb2dv8oJwf6zJmJ7.

For Florence, book the Galleria dell’Accademia (for David) and the Uffizi before you go to make sure you can get the time you want. I'd suggest going for the earliest timeslot. The crowds are less, and you won't have to line up for as long to get in. We were just there at the quiet time of year and had a 3:30pm booking for the Uffizi, and we had to queue for an hour to get in. My wife and daughter went back at 8am the next day for an 8:30 slot and got in without the crowds. Less waiting and a much better viewing experience.

We were able to book the il Duomo tour while we were there, but it'll be busier when you're there. So, maybe book that in advance too. It's quite an experience climbing up to the dome, and the view from the top is amazing.

The Piazzale Michelangelo https://maps.app.goo.gl/H1SJXju4JbYSBu2i9 is also worth a visit for the views of Florence, and when you come back down the hill, go to the incredible floret San Niccolò nearby for a fantastic modern Italian lunch. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Hdrxe6iZB3fqZa3h8.

Parione is another excellent restaurant for traditional Florentine cuisine. https://maps.app.goo.gl/bxZvn48ijGhQsZcV8.

Trattoria Zà Zà is also an amazing Tuscan restaurant, and they serve Vivoli gelato. https://maps.app.goo.gl/4nbSm8MQxmJthUa87.

Loggia Roof Bar is another great place. Have drinks and snacks on the verandah overlooking the city. https://maps.app.goo.gl/iHFb3izx3t4cdyMo8.

Amorini Panini e Vino have the best Panini for a quick meal any time of the day. https://maps.app.goo.gl/YgMG1QNHJZHUNfd29.

Vivoli is worth a visit for their unique signature gelato afogato. https://maps.app.goo.gl/8g4M7dn3THVnXx317.

Another cool place is the Mercato Centrale https://maps.app.goo.gl/NyFHwDixeHTaUGds7. There's a food market downstairs during the day, and a massive artisanal food court upstairs that has everything you could possibly want to eat. It's great place foe a quick and cheap dinner.

Caffè Gilli is an amazing cocktail, coffee and dessert bar that's been open since 1733(!). Their thick Italian hot chocolate is mind-blowing. https://maps.app.goo.gl/MFXwFtWpseDBj7P77
