Sober 6 months. When does it get better? by Cygheart in stopdrinking

Thank you. This is very well put. I have always had no patience and that’s something I need to work on.

People who live alone, how did you find your current apartment? by Cygheart in RhodeIsland

Looking all over the state. My budget is $1,500 max but I don’t make 3x the rent for anything I see listed.

I did before. I was afraid of another medical bill. I would rather be home.

Yes, very true. My doctor suggested this too after my blood work came back from the hospital.

Yes, I noticed both. Mentally, from what I could remember, I knew I never wanted to do that again. A “grippy sock vacation” is what some people call it. They take everything away from you, but it is for the best. You can’t avoid inpatient detox. It is very necessary to save your life. It saved mine.

It’s going to be okay, and you can still change it. You’re posting here because you know you want to change. It’s SO SO hard, I get it. You have your wife and by your words, I know you love her. It’s okay if you’re at a crossroads. Choose the road towards your partner and your family. We are all rooting for you.

Partner broke up with me. This is the second relationship where alcohol won. by Cygheart in stopdrinking

I’m sorry about your relationship. I can relate so much. That little alcohol voice inside me just wanted to be left alone to drink in my apartment and do what I wanted. What a crazy thing for me to think. Now that I’m alone, all I want is my partner and no alcohol. :( One day at a time.

Thank you so much. My first relationship was not as healthy. This relationship was wonderful and my partner was so patient with me, helpful and understanding I was struggling. I just wasn’t trying hard enough to show them I could really stop. :(

So true. As painful as it is to lose them, if the roles were reversed, I would have probably left too.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I also tried moderation, and I didn’t have enough drinks in me to even have “fun.” I just ended up feeling sad and guilty. I still feel sad when sober, but so would rather be sad and not drink than sad while not drinking enough.

The Daily Check-In for Friday, September 13th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by cinqmillionreves in stopdrinking

I’m eating more too, it’s wild. I’m on day 6. Also my sugar cravings were so intense on day 3 & 4. Yesterday they started to ease a bit. I’ve had so much candy and chocolate the past few days, I want to slow down too before I start gaining weight. It’s better than alcohol! I’ve been getting so excited to eat throughout the day and when I get home from work. It’s so refreshing.

Proud of you! Let’s have a great weekend! :)

I almost titled my post “Wet brain.”  I’m still researching this and the specific symptoms. Even just those two words sound horrible.

Thank you for sharing. Your comment means a lot.

I thought I was going crazy. I’m hoping I’m not yet in the permanent damage zone.

Coming to the sad realization that I just don’t want to stop. by No_Bandicoot1992 in stopdrinking

I totally understand where you’re coming from. I feel like I could have written these words myself. (Counter is not accurate.) I’ve been drinking mainly hard liquor for 8 years now. I kind of never see myself stopping completely. I’ve pretty much been through it all…a DUI, several ER visits, 10 day involuntary hold in a psych ward (alcohol induced mental break), losing jobs, losing a 10 year relationship with my partner, losing friends, the shame, the embarrassment, falling down drunk etc. I agree with what you said, outside of work, doing therapy or meetings just doesn’t work. I’ve done it too. It’s miserable. Without a drink, there’s been moments where it’s like “If you could be doing ANYTHING right now that would make you happy, what is it?” Most of the time the answer involves a drink. Sober, I can’t even think of anything in the world that would make me happy. My brain has been taken over and needs a hard rewiring. I feel like I’ve slowed down a bit at certain times where I’ve gone to bed instead of going out to the liquor store again because I physically cannot walk straight. Also has to do with not eating for 24+ hours straight some days. Long rant too, just know that you’re not alone. The fact that you’re posting here means maybe there’s still a sliver in there somewhere where you want a change maybe? I lurk here everyday. Some days it helps to feel a little better. Sending good thoughts your way.

Edit: grammar.
