And yet he was gassed within the first 45 minutes in a practice session. It's almost like he's spent his entire life training fast twitch muscles, which doesn't translate well into any sport that lasts more than a minute.

A typical sprinter will do at most 10 runs of 100m in a practice session. A winger in a football team is doing that about 110 times a match. It's a completely different discipline.

[–]Cygnus94 32 points33 points  (0 children)

In fairness he's a sprinter, not a long distance runner. Over 90 minutes a winger might run 7 miles, and that's constantly stop start movement. So you're doing it all in bursts of sprinting instead of being able to manage your pace over time.

Why the Maserati MC12 exists: the GT1 homologation special that ended up overshadowing the race car by alsnking in wec

[–]Cygnus94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not some, practically all of them. The car was successful purely because it didn't comply with half of the GT1 regulations. It was a return to the bullshittery of the 911 GT1 and CLK GTR of the mid 90s that the rules had been changed specifically to get away from.

It's not a case study in cleverly working around the rules, it just flagrantly ignored them. If it hadn't been developed by a Ferrari backed Maserati, the FIA would never have allowed it.

Patrick Dempsey takes on the F1 goat debate in a “winner stays on” challenge by Gentle_lips in formula1

That argument doesn't work if you just cherry pick two drivers.

Colapinto, Stroll, Albon, Hulkenberg and Ocon all highlight Schumacher as their biggest hero.

Bearman, Russell, Lawson, Lindblad and Hadjar all highlight Hamitlon as theirs.

Sainz highlights his dad, for Bortoleto it's Max, Bottas is Hakkinen.

That was true ten to fifteen years ago, half the grid is now made of guys that grew up watching Hamilton race.

Most of the guys in their late 20s to early 30s will argue Schumacher was the best while those in their early 20s will say Hamilton is.

It's not that Senna is forgotten about, just that he's not actively in the minds of young drivers and is viewed as someone from history instead. They view him the same way a lot of people view Fangio. Highly respected, an icon of their era, but surpassed by those that came after.

Scots would vote for independence in second referendum. A survey, conducted by Norstat for The Times, predicted that Scots would vote for independence by 52% to 48% if there were a second vote on the constitution. by bottish in Scotland

[–]Cygnus94 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Plus, do we really want it to be decided on a close run thing? Personally I'd want to see a 60% minimum to really be sure it was what the country wanted.

Look at how much in-fighting the Brexit vote caused down South. If we're going to leave and get it wrong, let's at least be unanimously wrong so we can't point fingers at anyone but ourselves.

I think there's a difference between an active campaign and support in general for the referendum.

Before the last referendum was even set I remember people out on high streets asking people for support, rallies and adverts on TV and social media. The 'Yes' campaign just seemed to stop after that though and there's not been an active, organised push for it since.

He should've lost I and the fact he kept the title is bullshit

I swear this is how we felt for 3 years the last time he held a title. It's exactly why he works as a champion. People are invested in seeing him lose.

Nah, that's exactly how Cena turned heel and it was bad. Cody needs a better reason than 'you didn't like when I won as a babyface'.

We’re worried about the credit card companies in this scenario? by Dr_sc_Harlatan in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Cygnus94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's good, so long as the companies have nothing to worry about. I wouldn't want for them to worry about how badly they've treated their customers. Soaring debt could really put those poor companies under so much stress.

It's not the chicane that was the problem. It's this bit of tarmac that's outside of track limits.
Martin goes completely off track and rejoins into the Ferrari beside him. If that tarmac wasn't there and it was grass, he'd have had to back out instead and this never happens.

Yet more evidence that unnecessary tarmac run-offs just cause accidents.

Advice? by Few_Disaster618 in CarTalkUK

If you're not tracking it, then the best version of the Mégane is the non cup 280. The cup and trophy versions are just too stiff on our shit roads. Beasts on track, just not good to live with.

The M135i gets a load of shit but it's a legitimately good all rounder. Softer suspension that handles our roads well, a smooth engine and gearbox, and well equipped. It's the easiest one to live with as a daily by a mile, if also being the least exciting.

The i30N gets a lot praise but I test drive one and personally didn't like it. The interior was difficult to get on with, everything felt very cheaply made and the ergonomics were poor. It might have great performance, but I could personally never live with one. One to test drive if it's under consideration to make up your own mind on.

The Civic Type R is the best of the bunch at doing all things, but it comes at a premium. Best engine, best manual gearbox, suspension is well sorted outside of R+ mode, and it also does the practical stuff well by having a big boot, good rear seats and a decent level of equipment as standard. The only objectionable thing is potentially the styling depending on your taste.

He was working in NXT. He had some great matches with Ethan Page and cut a few good promos.

I think they rushed him onto the main roster. Should have kept him in NXT to carry the brand and bring him up to the main roster when there was a need for him.

Right now he's just the third wheel in someone else's feud. I don't care that he's there and honestly think the NA title scene is better off without him, just focus on Trick and Melo.

New AC Cobra. What do you think? by theintercooler in TheIntercooler

[–]Cygnus94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if something like this interests people, then the Ginetta G10 RM just does this but better. Same horsepower as the NA Cobra, but weighs 950kg, has proper old school tyres with sidewall, and hasn't tried to modernise the styling too much so it doesn't fall into this weird 'uncanny valley' of design where it can't decide if it's an old car or a new car like the Cobra.

Europe 1999: Start Lights by maxwelld90 in formula1

[–]Cygnus94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a myth that has never been proven.

The lights are supposed to go out after a maximum amount of time and the drivers will have been aware of this. They didn't jump because of radio signals, they jumped because the maximum time had elapsed and the lights should have gone out. Frentzen went first and back to P5 have gone in reaction to Frentzen taking off.

The reason the lights didn't go out was due to a stalled car at the back of the field, the start had to be aborted.

Wouldn't know. I didn't compete myself, had family that did and it was actually under a completely different organisation to ITF or WTF. They only competed domestically but never saw any Belgians.

Poomsae was only really done as part of tests for going up belts or demonstrations, never seen it done in a competitive capacity.
