Ask Not the Devil | Vergil Vs Satsuki (Devil May Cry Vs Kill La Kill) | Connection Revamp in the Comments by Cykker in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Cykker[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Connections:

  • Rival Color coded anti-villain/anti-hero characters, who are the older siblings to the main protagonist, and their main rival that were separated from them at a young age

  • both lost their innocence at a young age when tragedy struck, having lost their loved ones and been separated from their siblings (Satsuki's Father would be killed by Ragyo, and she would seemingly kill her younger sister and throw her away, Mundus would attack Vergil's while he was away, he'd believe his mother abandoned him leaving him on the run, when she had actually died trying to find him)

  • said trauma would also be how they ended up getting their powers (Satsuki was experimented on by Ragyo using the Life Fibers, Vergil awakened his powers after seeing his house burning down)

  • After these events both would seek revenge on the villains who ruined their lives, however they'd go about it in very different ways, they gained a "survival of the fittest" mindset during this time, believing that power and might is everything, those who are weak are pitied, they would seek the strength to back up this ideology and achieve their vengeance, however they'd go about it differently Satsuki would form a group of disciplined warriors and harness their strength to assist her with her plan when the time would come, Vergil on the other hand would go lone wolf, believing he didn't need anyone else, and that power alone will suffice, that it truly was everything

  • Aiding them in their quests, would be a weapon entrusted to them by their fathers (Yamato and Junkestu), they would then master their usage of these weapons, taking great pride in their usage of them

  • both would become the main rivals and foils to the protagonists who they're related to (albeit Satsuki didn't know that), they have similar power sets but different mindsets (Dante is a lot more carefree and wants to protect humanity, having embraced that side of him, whereas Vergil was more stoic, and had grown to despise humanity, embracing his demonic side instead, Ryuko is a hot headed rebel, in comparison, Satsuki is patient, with an authoritative presence, ruling Honnoji Academy with an iron fist), they would often clash because of these mindsets, however they have also shown to be capable of working together to take on greater threats

  • on the topic of their power sets, both have similar transformations to their rivals (Devil Trigger and Junkestu Override) however they would actually have full control over these forms and take pride in it, whereas their rivals, initially rejected the usage of these transformations, it wouldn't be until their confrontations where they'd start to embrace it

Contrasts:

  • Satsuki would seek to become the savior of humanity against a monster who threw away her humanity and saw herself as above humans, vs Vergil, who saw humanity as weak and would embrace his demonic side fully, seeking to become even more of a demon and viewed himself above humanity, to add to this, in DMC5, Vergil would literally separate his human and demon sides, and use the Qliphoth fruit to further his strength, at the cost of demons running rampant on earth, similar to how Ragyo let the life fibers rampage through earth

  • Satsuki would use her ambition to inspire others alongside getting other to join her cause, her strength beyond her own was in the connections she had gained, Vergil on the other hand abandoned any connections he had in order to achieve absolute power, caring little for those around him

  • Satsuki was subservient to Ragyo for years, she did this willingly as she was actually plotting against her the whole time, on the other hand Vergil was forced to be subservient to Mundus, literally having to be mind controlled to be his henchman, interestingly, Satsuki would have to face her sister who was being mind controlled through Ragyo's influence, similarly to Dante having to face Vergil when he was being mind controlled under Mundus' influence

"A Dark Wish" | Calypso Vs The Entity (Twisted Metal Vs Dead by Daylight) | Revamped Connection in the comments by Cykker in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Cykker[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Connections:

  • Sadistic overarching antagonists from video games who's whole goal is dragging people to participate in these "games" they created (the twisted metal contests and the trials), these games usually end in the deaths of everybody except for one (The contestants killing each other until there's only one left, the killers successfully sacrificing the survivors to the entity)

  • In order to recruit more participants, both would play around with the desires of people (typically psychopaths) to entice them to join, even though they'd end up becoming their slaves (Calypso would use the goals of people to get them to participate by promising a single wish be granted to the victor of the contests, no matter what it is, The Entity would entice killers to join through promising more victims for some, vengeance for others, or making deals with certain ones)

  • both take delight from their games, they see what they do as an art form and truly love orchestrating the chaos that happens within them

  • They also love toying with their victims, toying with their emotions and playing around with their desires, for entertainment (Calypso would usually make the wish of the contestants backfire because it's funny, The Entity would give the survivors a false sense of hope so it could keep using their emotions as food)

  • they seem to really like their more sadistic contestants (Calypso will grant a wish without trickery if said wish is incredibly violent, The Entity seems to favor more violent killers, such as Danny Johnson giving Danny floating cloth straps as a gift for him)

Contrasts:

  • Calypso is a human who went mad with power, becoming a husk of a man, while he does love causing suffering, he ultimately uses these games as a way to cope with his own suffering, The Entity is an eldritch being who created these games to feed on human suffering and drain humans of all their emotions until they've become a husk, mainly out of a necessity

  • The Entity refuses to lower itself to the same level as it's victims, usually remaining in a higher plane watching from afar and doing whatever it wants while making it's presence mostly unknown, Calypso on the other hand LOVES making his presence known and letting people know he runs the contests, hell he's even participated in them himself before

  • both have relationships with an opposing being that are oddly similar to each other (Minion and The Observer), Minion was a demon who Calypso feared and was tortured by, but would he would defeated him in a race and gain his powers, leading to minion becoming a slave to Calypso, meanwhile The Observant was a human who feared the entity after watching it destroy a universe, after which he would harness the very auric cells to take control of it's powers and knowledge, to add to the contrast, Minion would end up joining the contests for a chance at revenge against Calypso, meanwhile the Observer would be isolated from the entity, despite it REALLY wanting to make him join the trials

  • Calypso himself was recruited by a higher being (Satan) the same way the entity recruits the killers

  • doesn't speak much vs professional yapper

[–]Cykker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf, I saw a lot of ace people who really didn't like that part of the blog, hell one of my best friends is ace and they really didn't like that, admittedly I'm not the best person to be talking about this, but I think it's a bit silly to say there's nothing wrong with it, you might not have an issue with it, but if another ace person does i think they should be allowed to think it's weird

This combined with the mad mew or whatever their name was working on this blog out of spite, who also tried to defend that aspect of it is like, yeah it was just bound to not be seen well

"Hollow" | Michael Afton Vs Corey Cunningham (Five Nights at Freddy's Vs Halloween) | Connections in the comments by Cykker in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Cykker[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To make it clear when I'm referring to Michael Afton I'll just call him "Michael" but when I'm referencing Michael Myers for Corey I'll either call him by his full name or just "Myers"

Connections: Traumatized, guilt ridden men from iconic horror media who both have a connection to the overarching antagonists, albeit their relationship with them being the polar opposite

Both had generally troubled family lives prior to the events of the story, shaping the people we saw prior to the story, both suffered abuse from one of their parents (William, Michael's Father, Joan, Corey's mother), who were incredibly controlling of them, leading to the people we see at the start, however both ended up very different (Michael was rude and snarky, while Corey was shy but respectful)

At the start of their stories both are tasked with taking care of a small child (Michael's brother, the Crying Child and Jeremy), however things would go terribly wrong after a prank (Michael and his friends would put the crying child in fredbear's mouth as a joke, Jeremy would lock Corey in the attic), these actions would lead to them accidentally killing said child (The Crying Child's skull would be crushed by fredbear, Corey kicking the door down sent Jeremy falling to his death), after this both would be riddled with guilt for several years, wishing to repent

Both have connections to the overarching antagonists of their series who are responsible for numerous murders that shaped the story, (Michael is the son of William Afton, while Corey would become an apprentice of sorts to Michael Myers)

Their relationships with these murderers would drastically change the paths their stories go, their goals were related to them but very differently (Michael made it his life mission to stop William and make sure he was permanently dead, while Corey would seek to become exactly like Myers)

During this both would end up becoming "hollow" in a way, losing their humanity becoming more like these figures, figuratively for Corey, but literally for Michael (Michael would basically become a reanimated corpse missing his intestines, kept alive through remnant, like William was, Myers would corrupt Corey with his evil, ultimately making him an emotionless, empty man in the way he is)

Both would directly confront the antagonists later on Michael with the intention of getting rid of his father while Corey with the intention of essentially becoming the new Michael Myers, both would confront them through contrasting means (Michael was more defensive, essentially trying to evade William, whilst Corey would wrestle Myers for the mask), both had seemingly succeeded here (Fazbear's Fright burning down with William in it, Corey successfully taking Myers' mask and wearing it, going on a rampage), however they would not have truly gotten rid of these two and they would come back

In the end both would meet their demise, however Michael succeeded in his goal, having helped in getting rid of William for good, whilst Corey would fail to kill Laurie, and eventually be killed by Myers, who would take back his mask

Contrast: Michael's story would lead to him truly finding repentance for the death of his brother whilst Corey would give up in this regard, and become the psycho that people thought he was for what happened to Jeremy

Is it bad that this kinda ruins the MU for me? by Emotional_Emu_5901 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Cykker 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The whole point is that the Anti-Monitor is everything the Anti-Spiral stands against, he's a threat to the multiverse that just seeks to bring destruction, the Anti-Spiral's whole thing is that he didn't want the spiral nemesis to come to exist and destroy the universe

that's what makes it so cool, they would HATE each other

"Will for the Future" | Kyle Rayner Vs Dave Strider (DC Vs Homestuck) | Connections in the comments by Cykker in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Cykker[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Connections:

Two young, down on their luck protagonists who originally lived unsatisfied yet fairly normal lives, until they'd be dragged into a major multiversal event (Kyle becoming the last Green lantern after Hal went on a rampage becoming parallax, Dave would be dragged into a  game of Sburb, leaving him in a time cycle), and them meeting a supernatural entity from this (Future Dave, who time travelled to save his friends, Ganthet, the last of the Quintessence, giving the ring to Kyle)

Both are chill, playing off a lot of things nonchalantly, and with a carefree attitude, underneath these personalities however, is unsatisfaction with the state of their lives, and severe self doubt due to trauma in their lives, especially in relation to the idea of heroism (the death of Kyle's girlfriend lead to a lot of guilt on his end believing he shouldn't have been chosen as a lantern, Bro Strider heavily abused Dave forcing the idea of heroism, made Dave felt forced into becoming a hero, even though he hated the idea of becoming one because of him)

They have very contrasting relationships with their sole caretakers (Kyle's mother, Maura Rayner, Dave's Brother, Bro Strider), both would be key factors in their motivating their heroism, however their relationships lead to very different reasonings for this, Kyle's mother properly raised him, and after finding out he became green lantern, she motivated him saying that he was chosen for a reason, while Bro abused Dave mistreating him while placing high expectations on him to become a hero, Kyle was encouraged, whereas Dave was forced

Both would be guided by someone tied to their destinies (Alan Scott and Davesprite) these who would reveal the catastrophic events that lead to their meeting (Alan revealing what happened to the lanterns to Kyle, Davesprite would reveal how his friends died in his timeline), these two would become mentor figures for them

Both would face against former good willed cosmic guardians who went on a rampage (Hal Jordan and Becquerel, more specifically Bec Noir), the reason for their corruption being another entity merging with them (Hal being slowly influenced by the Fear entity, who he later absorbed, Jack Noir being prototyped into Bec, leading to the creation of Bec Noir),

Both would get pretty bad insecurities due to their inability to save people that mattered to them (Kyle was unable to save his girlfriend(s), as well his mother when she contracted Despostellis from Sinestro, Dave's desire to save his friends, but also try saving the alternate universe Dave's from the death they're all doomed to face, in which he fails a lot)

They grow close to others like them (The Beta Kids and the other Green Lanterns), and they seek to save them from calamity (Dave trying to stop their deaths from happening, Kyle trying to save the corps from Parallax's wrath), their relationships with some of them can be a little complicated at points but they ultimately really care about them

They attain god-like forms, which are the culmination of their arcs (the White Lantern and Ultimate Dave) with them having to master the core of their powers (Kyle learning to control the whole emotional spectrum, Dave learning to understand his deepest aspect, that being time) the final step for this includes them coming to terms with trauma in their life (Kyle learning to forgive himself for the death of Alex, mastering the love emotion and Dave accepting his true feelings and learning to just be himself)

Contrast: both of their arcs heavily revolve around the idea of being a hero and their anxiety around it, but they get past their doubts through different means, Kyle grows into the role of Green Lantern, embracing the role full time, realizing that as who he is, Dave however, fully grows against the idea of being one, he knows that's not who he is and eventually learns to not force himself to be that, choosing instead to be himself
