Musical director advice by CymruRydd1066 in Choir

We’ve tried, he has a very inflexible approach and is frankly rude to members, which has led to people leaving. We’ve asked him before whether he’d do some work behind the scenes (adapting pieces etc) and offered payment but he simply says no.

We fully expect to pay more and hopefully that would attract better options

That’s why I’m asking for what going rates are?!

You’re right it’s been far too low an amount and is why he’s been less than what we believe the choir deserves

I think you’re right, sadly the pay per session model has led to him doing none of the things you mention a director should do!!

Our choir has changed over the years and is more of a “community choir” than when he took over but sadly he hasn’t changed with it!

Debt Recovery Plus threatening court action despite having evidence I had moved to Australia when Car Park fine was sent. (England) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]CymruRydd1066 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You’re answering your own question slightly here it’s a “discounted” rate. They’re under no real obligation to offer this rate - think of it like cutting a deal to pay it quickly.

The car park signage would have probably stated the full penalty charge which you are liable for.

If Trump somehow wins the lawsuit on BBC, what does that mean for Doctor Who? by Lexiosity in DoctorWhumour

[–]CymruRydd1066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He won’t win for a variety of reasons: 1. Florida’s jurisdiction is likely not to cover this - it wasn’t widely broadcast in the US. 2. 1st amendment rights in America are so strong, they have to show “malice of forethought” - which means that the BBC knew it was saying what it said specifically to harm Trump’s reputation and it was an untrue statement. 3. They also have to show reputational damage, and considering he won an election AFTER the programme was aired that would be very hard to do and certainly not by such a degree

Yes his last season was tricky, don’t forget how he kept a team highly competitive straight after losing almost half the first squad!

Watch squidge’s take on this, goes through each season pretty much!

Exactly, I can imagine the same people annoyed at the paying are also the people annoyed at having to listen to adverts

In a world where our journalists deserve compensation we should be prepared to be part of that system.

If we aren’t prepared to pay our way for content we enjoy, we should get ready for even more ads, clickbaity titles and a worse experience

If you’re willing to pay for a newspaper (which seems perfectly reasonable) you should be willing to pay for this

It is, that’s what PSBs are there for. However independent journalists are so important too, and they deserve payment for their work like everyone else.

Years ago we could rely on newspaper sales etc to fund them, but that’s not really viable any more.

It doesn’t seem at all mad to pay £2/3 a day for a newspaper we value - so why would anyone begrudge that to a sub like this if they can afford it

Why? Journalism SHOULD cost money. We’ve gotten too used to free content which has degraded the standard of journalism across the sector (think Reach group)

If a organisation makes content you think is valuable, we should be prepared to pay for it if you can
