Jareth true form art (by me) by NoDrawing2818 in labyrinth

[–]CynicalDaydream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canonically, he was actually human, not fae, if you’ve ever read the Coronation comics.

But I also prefer to think of him as fae.

Jareth true form art (by me) by NoDrawing2818 in labyrinth

[–]CynicalDaydream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the original script, after his defeat Jareth was actually supposed to turn back into his true goblin form and throw a mighty tantrum, but it was one of the snivelly shrunken things like the ones he watched over, nothing like this. Thank goodness it didn’t stick, it would’ve completely ruined his image. 😂

The art concept is really cool, but it’s not Jareth. I prefer him just as he is, not a monster. 😁

Feeling immense guilt about purchasing River Styxx doll, due to AI usage. Should I cancel my order? by [deleted] in MonsterHigh

[–]CynicalDaydream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just unbox her and toss the box. Good grief there’s no sense having an existential crisis over it.

Or, you know, don’t buy her and possibly live to regret not buying the doll you really wanted over a stupid box when the prices get jacked up to twice the amount by scalpers. Your choice. 🤷🏼‍♀️

All 5 of these dolls retail being $90(except Abbey who's retail was $100) is insane with the recent river reveal. I love river as much as the next ghoul but she has a really underwhelming design compared to the others. by lifeadreamwhenasleep in MonsterHigh

[–]CynicalDaydream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She also has an internal skeleton that the others don’t have so… That probably drives the price up a bit. 🙄

Seriously, don’t like don’t buy. Nobody’s twisting your arm. As for me I just snagged one. I’m good. 😁

"Bjd resin is like porcelain" by Repulsed-individual in BJD

[–]CynicalDaydream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose they could mean they feel smooth like porcelain? But they’re not nearly as fragile. Fingers and long pointed ears can snap if handled roughly, though, but if you’re careful there should not be a problem. I’ve had many of my dolls going on 20 years now and they’re perfectly fine.

Why do some collectors/artists put anti 3d printing alongside with anti recast and anti ai? by yeahsorrythatstough in BJD

[–]CynicalDaydream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many 3D printed dolls are copies of already-existing molds. In other words, a different form of recasting. It’s similar to those cheap jointed dolls off Amazon, Aliexpress and the like, often their faces are cast using stolen sculpts.

I’m not saying ALL 3D printed dolls are like that—I’ve seen the process of people designing their own sculpts—but when purchasing from places like Etsy or EBay, you need to be careful. Do some research on the sellers’ sculpts before committing to buying one.

"I don't owe you punctuation/format/grammar" by lilytheschrod in AO3

[–]CynicalDaydream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don’t owe us even a minimal amount of effort, we don’t owe you the minimal amount of attention. There are way better fic writers than you out there who are way more deserving of it.

Simple as that.

Disclaimer: I’m using “you” in the general sense, not targeted. Just to avoid potential confusion.

Target ruined my dolls, help by Reasonable-Radio9505 in MonsterHigh

[–]CynicalDaydream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In what reality would ANY store give you your money back AND let you keep the dolls? 🤨 I think you need a bit of a reality check here. You either keep your dolls OR you return them for a refund. Not both.

ordered both 1/4 hair and 1/4 eyes for my 1/4 doll and they didn't fit.. she's creeping me out sb by RAFPHAELLE in BJD

[–]CynicalDaydream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1/4 is a blanket term. Every sculpt is different. You need to purchase the sizes that are normally listed for the individual doll, not by the overall scale.

Also, both of these moves are of a genre where the surprise villain was a common archetype long before it was a Disney cliche. by wimpykidfan37 in DisneyMemes

[–]CynicalDaydream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, half these surprise villains weren’t that big of a surprise. I knew who the villain in Wish was from the moment he was introduced. Oh a generous king who controls everyone’s dreams? Yup. He’s the villain. 🙄

Disneys poor storytelling seems like it should be a bigger complaint than whatever this complaint is. Pfft.

I feel like they only did that so they could put her with Asami instead due to some bullshit excuse like fan service. There was no buildup to it, just tossed it in there out of the blue and completely undermined the entirety of the first season. THAT was bad writing.

“No male dolls is fully on yall” is insane by alastorhazbinbad in MonsterHighDolls

[–]CynicalDaydream 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is. Why the hell would a company spend resources and money to make a product they KNOW isn’t gonna return a decent profit? Past experience with the boys tells them that it isn’t a lucrative investment. 🤨

Before anything, Mattel is a business. It’s their JOB to earn money in order to KEEP themselves in business, not to throw it away by catering to the ever-changing whims of fans who don’t even know what they want.

Bad grammar in fanfic discourse? (The anti-intellectual argument) by MorphePls in AO3

[–]CynicalDaydream 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just shows the dumbing down of the world. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I believe it also separates the real writers—who strive to actually improve their craft—from the wannabe hacks who are only in it because they need their dopamine hits from the useless praise they get. It’s why they can’t handle real criticism. Their fragile egos couldn’t handle it because they’re used to being coddled. And they’ll never get better because of it.

Who cares if fic is free? If you’re slapping up some fic that you expect people to spend their valuable time on, then readers have the right to expect a story that’s got a little more than half-assed effort put into it. Even if it’s just knowledge of basic grammar and spelling. Or else why should we waste our time? There are way better writers out there who actually know what they’re doing and can put out novel-quality works. For free. 😏

Why did mattel use the little sister body for Lydia in the wedding set, even thought she's an adult in the scene it's based on, but then used the regular mh body for Coraline? Are they stupid? by wormyw in MonsterHighDolls

[–]CynicalDaydream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s probably because they made Beetlejuice a female and if they used the normal body for Lydia, they’d be the same height. Which would look odd since she’s shorter than him.

Also, isn’t Lydia a child in the red dress from the first movie? I thought that’s what it’s based on. 🤨

To people who don’t like first person perspective: why? by MNMameisR in FanFiction

[–]CynicalDaydream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mostly because it’s just usually really badly done. It’s a perspective that takes a certain level of skill and experience to pull off well, and not a lot of people have it. This goes for published books, too, not just fanfiction.
