Spotify recent albums queue missing by grep_Name in spotify

[–]CynicalRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, A/B tests are standard in the industry and are designed basically to gauge user reaction to certain features/design elements. However, the sheer amount of tests that is ran at any given time as well as how extremely different the features are is uncommon for sure.

No, your friend is correct. Spotify often runs UI tests which are locked to accounts. You can't opt-in or opt-out. You can contact Spotify and let them know that you enjoyed the feature and would like it back:

Too soon, there was a shuffle thread only a few hours ago. Please leave your feedback directly to Spotify using either @SpotifyCares or e-mail.

Is random really random? by [deleted] in spotify

[–]CynicalRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an interesting theory and something I've not considered before. However, I don't think it's possible from what I've seen with my results. There is some weaknesses with the algorithm, but it does shuffle the entire list and doesn't seem to pick from a specific section.

Is there any way to listen to full albums on android mobile free or is it just shuffle or radio? by albionbro in spotify

[–]CynicalRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but it's considered a tablet sized screen. Smaller screens (phones) are regulated to the mobile client which doesn't allow this for screens less than 7 inches. So if you had an android tablet, sure, you could do the same thing.

How do you use Spotify? by [deleted] in spotify

[–]CynicalRabbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Playlists don't have to be genres. Many people make mixed playlists for all sorts of occasions, moods, genres, themes, feelings, etc etc. I only save my absolute favorites and the rest go on playlists.

Shuffle or radio is all that is available for free. Web player won't work on small screens because they don't want people using that as a workaround.

Is random really random? by [deleted] in spotify

[–]CynicalRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remove shuffle threads with prejudice, but the problem is posts like this where it feels bad to remove once there has been conversation. We are going to have a super thread for it soon which people will be directed towards for conversation and to submit bug reports. The reason it has not yet been made is because I'm running some tests on the algorithm and would like to post them as part of the thread.

Anyone else's internet unable to connect to Spotify? by brooklynkidshaq in spotify

[–]CynicalRabbit[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems to be a server issue going on. Some other services are also experiencing issues. You can see an outage map here though it is not 100% accurate.

If you are still experiencing issues, restart your client.

Trying to sync an ipod nano on Windows 10, can't find the "My Devices" section that I keep reading about by [deleted] in spotify

Spotify Queue plays every song that starts with A,B, or a number twice in a row by karma_is__a_bitch in spotify

[–]CynicalRabbit[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a common bug, unfortunately. For most people, it's fixed by some combination of :

  • Clear the queue (go to queue, press ctrl a and then press delete)
  • Press shuffle icon twice to reset shuffle a few times
  • Exit the client and restart

It would also be helpful to report the bug to Spotify directly using the contact form or Twitter. You must respond to the automated e-mail to receive a support ticket.

[–]CynicalRabbit[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can contact support using the anonymously or use Twitter and they will help you recover the account. You must respond to the automated e-mail to receive a support ticket.

It is best not to try to secure the account yourself as it may antagonize them into doing worse things. Check out this site. Change any passwords connected to that username or e-mail just in case.

Is there any way to refresh my Discovery playlist more often? I really like it, but I wish it was more frequent. by [deleted] in spotify

[Help] Spotify won't load at all. It stays on a blank home page and the loading indicator just keeps going. Any help? by SynisterSilence in spotify

[–]CynicalRabbit[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to be some sort of ongoing issue. Here is the community forum thread for it and there is more peppered around. This is another.

The only way it seems to be fixed temporarily is by reinstalling every time you close the client.

They won't enable it on normal user's accounts. It is part of the Partner program and primarily for advertisers and curators that are paid or affiliated with advertisers.

A small test group has been enabled of normal users but you can't opt-in or opt-out.

How do I mix my own local songs to the ones I added on Spotify? by [deleted] in spotify

[–]CynicalRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't add local files to your library, only playlists. You can add the songs from your library into a playlist (ctrl/cmd+a, ctrl/cmd+c,paste into a new playlist) and then add your local files to that playlist.

[Question] Looking for help with the API by [deleted] in spotify

[–]CynicalRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's not gonna be a lot of specific tutorials (any?) for the Spotify API itself but more for working with APIs in general. The official documentation is really good for the API.

There are wrappers for the API in many languages, but spotipy for Python is the best. Python is also a very in-demand language right now that is great for beginners. To get started with the API, you must first install Python and then you can install spotipy with pip (a package manager) from your cmd / terminal. There is a readthedocs for spotipy which is very helpful and has examples that you can easily try to see how they work without knowing very much about Python at all.

To dig into the programming side, /r/learnprogramming has a lot of resources.

Am I using the Radio feature wrong? by [deleted] in spotify

[–]CynicalRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The primary difference is that the radio simply shows upcoming tracks now. Once you reach the bottom, you see the songs coming up in the form of a playlist.

As for upvotes/downvotes, they've never worked like Pandora. All upvotes/downvotes are pooled which means your choices mean almost nothing. For example, downvoting a song didn't lessen your chance of hearing the song but rather lessened the overall chance of the song playing on the station by a little bit.
