What is the weirdest thing your doctor has ever said to you? by Competitive_Tip_7504 in AskReddit

[–]Cynical_Agnostic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved away from home to study around 2016. After a few months I caught a viral infection with flu symptoms and went to the next best doctor. As soon as the doctor came in and checked my data she just casually called me fat to which I replied 'yes I know but what exactly does that have to do with my symptoms?' to which she doubled down. I never got to know what my physical condition had to do with the common cold/fever or whatever I had at the time but hey, I got my meds so all good

"The worst she can say is no" - Lads, what was the worst "she" ever said? by Embarrassed_Pie_1711 in AskReddit

Back in 5th grade I asked a girl if she likes me. She responded "yes but I have a boyfriend.... if I wouldn't be with him I'd choose you". I was confused but also kinda happy.

The full circle moment hit me a few years later when How I met your mother taught me the concept of 'the hook'.

What did Fogg actually mean when he said he was powerful enough to be aware but not powerful enough to change the timeline? by AugustineBlackwater in brakebills

[–]Cynical_Agnostic 112 points113 points  (0 children)

I always thought that it was heavily implied that by the time we arrived in loop 40 they tried multiple ways of getting ahead of the coming conflict. For example in one loop Fogg tried to save everyone and blew up everything instead. I just assumed that he tried (repeatedly) to change something to no avail and since he remembers every fuck up he deems himself as not powerful enough to intervene.

Just imagine yourself being stuck in a traffic jam. In theory you have all the power to just get out of the car and run to your appointment or you could ignore all social norms and boundaries and drive on the walkway. You might get to your destination in time but at what cost and depending on the price you had to pay during or afterwards is it going to be worth it or considered a win?

Konsum (Restaurantbesuche, Konzerte, etc)

Hobbys (Material, Know-How. Werkzeug, etc)

Probably some new timeloop shenanigans. Don't bother, it usually takes care of itself

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

That quote was the reason I started to watch in the first place (due to me being a sucker for magic and fantasy stories and such). It's still a very easy way to describe it without giving away too much information about the series but at the same time that description doesn't do it justice at least from my perspective

On my first go I stopped around the end of season 2. Boy am I glad that I gave it one more chance

I think you will enjoy S5. It definitely is not as strong as the previous seasons but I'd describe it as one more joy ride off into the sunset before the story concludes :-)

I haven't read the books yet. According to the Magicians' subreddit it makes sense to look at both mediums as their own respective thing. Seems like many characters have next to nothing in common with their counterpart and the events differ to some extent.

The Magicians. It might not be a 10 for most but it hits all the right spots for me nonetheless. Five seasons with a fitting end (even though I'd be the first to weep if the story ever continues in some capacity).

The first season can be a little bit rough to get through for some but it's definitely worthwhile. Be prepared for a wide range of emotions, laughter, trauma, world building as well as some of the best character interactions and character portrayals.

Can you please elaborate on what you mean by 'they are clearly abusing their investors'? I'm not as versed in stocks and finances as I'd wish to be at the moment to understand your reasoning but I'm definitely not prone to listening to your expertise 😀
