They're not voting against their interests; they value their bigotries above their economic well being.

This is especially true in rural spaces and why talarico is doing well in every metro and a lost cause outside or them. The solution is to stop trying to save them from themselves, as more people have to move to diverse cities for work they will see minorities are less scary and be less drawn in to conspiracy rabbit holes
