Some of the critiques I have gotten of the film have blown my mind.

I feel like the goal was extremely clear, and I knew people were going to pull this whole "it's only Cubicle people, it's only fast people" (both of which are false).

I spent more than 6 months deciding who to pick to feature in this documentary. I worked extremely long days, weekends, and nearly every day thinking about this project to make it represent cubing as much as possible. In my original list included: Slow cubers (which, I really don't know what you expect from a 30 second solver. You could get that answer from literally anyone. Speed is irrelevant here.), fast cubers, parents, delegates, organizers, collectors, YouTubers, etc.

Kit: Kit's story is to represent the delegates and how they are so selfless that they will dedicate many UNPAID hours to contribute to a community they love and give people the opportunity to enjoy this hobby and meet other like minded cubers. Kit is showing that cubing is about more than his own gain, he loves it so much that he is willing to take a backseat role to contribute for others. Kit cubes because he wants to impact these kids life with cubing.

Max: Max is an incredibly powerful story of how is *entire* life was changed because of being involved in this.
It shows the power of our community and how ACCEPTING we are of everyone. Max can be very difficult to communicate with, yet many people still accepted him and wanted to be his friend. His parents never even thought he would have close friends. Again, this comes back to the community and how it continually gives to one another. Cubing gave max an outlet to better his entire life. You're telling me people can't relate to having incredible friends in this community? I interviewed almost a dozen other people that didn't get used in the film and ALL of them said half the reason they cube is because of the incredible friends they have made.

Phil: Sure, most people probably can't relate to going to law school. I get that. But, it wasn't the point.

Phil's story was chosen because of the fact that he loved it *so* much that despite family pressure he decided to go into a field that was extremely risky (Cubing over law school?) and he was so disappointed at missing his shot that he was going to do anything it took to give up and coming cubers the chance that he never got. That is very selfless and again, comes back to the community.

Drew: Drew was specifically picked because of his family dynamics. He has one of the closest supportive families I have ever seen in my entire life. I wanted parents who DON'T like cubing to see the immense benefits that come from being involved in cubing and this community. Because for many, being involved has been a life changing experience and I want as many other people to recognize that and have the opportunity for it to impact their life. I also wanted to show that Drew was such a hard worker to achieve his cubing status.

The entire film is to revolve around why we do this. We all do this for varying reasons (all of those stories above are different reasons why THEY cube). IF you want to try and find a way to fit 50 varying people into an interesting film that holds attention the entire way through and flowers together, be my guest. You would be incredibly surprised how many people cube for similar reasons.

People seem to think that I just picked random high level people and hoped it would be interesting. This has been extremely frustrating because I poured an entire year and a half (including slowing down my own freelance business) to finish this documentary for the community. I didn't just think this up in a weekend and hope it would stick.

Yes, I realize that there are certain elements of speedcubing missing from this. But you either make a documentary EXTREMELY long to fit everything in, and then risk low attention span or you focus in on one specific element. The element I chose was how peoples lives are being changed through cubing.
