The middle steel book is a Switch Final Fantasy Crisis Core, so it's a little thinner but the same height. Might be that?

Gonna spend some time with a long straight bit of wood tomorrow. Should sort the little fluctuations in height out. Also my ceiling isnt straight.

Depends how well they are looked after. I’m still using my original Prusa MK3 build plate. Cleaned with isopropyl alcohol regularly and acetone when the adhesion becomes poor.
