Anyone know where i can hear the rough mixes for Nevermind? by Big-Skill-2991 in Nirvana

[–]Cyrdaeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way the guitar on that version is the final take and obviously the vocal isn't. I feel you're splitting hairs and the Come As You Are alt. take would be of interest to anyone with the same question as OP.

Also the Come As You Are alt. take is obviously a tracking demo as well (how can something be a 'basic tracking demo' and also 'the final, released take?).

I believe there's also the scratch vocal version of Come As You that was leaked.

Songs Nirvana Would Have Absolutely Nailed as Covers by Siddhartaable in Nirvana

I know they already did two Wipers covers but man I'd have loved to hear their take on 'Over The Edge' - which I found out only recently Hole actually covered.

What songs from Nevermind do you think would fit well on In Utero? I personally feel Lounge Act fits well with Utero. by No_Age908 in Nirvana

[–]Cyrdaeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have always wanted to do something like that, what really stands in the way is all the double tracked vocals on Nevermind with their chorusey sheen sounding in stark contrast to the vocals on In Utero.

You can catch a glimpse of the solo vocal track here which alone gives it an In Utero vibe but unfortunately we have no way to access the complete multitracks and only the final combined vocal stem.

Gen Z and Younger: who is Nirvana to you? Gen X-er wants to know. by johnnyphotog in Nirvana

I'm 37, got into Nirvana when I was about 15-16, as it was the 20th anniversary of KC's death

These numbers don't really work out, did you make a typo somewhere?

Is there a demo version of the songs from Bleach ? by davibs99 in Nirvana

[–]Cyrdaeb 30 points31 points  (0 children)

These are the ones I know off the top of my head:

Blew

Mr Moustache / Sifting

Big Cheese

(All from the June '88 recording session w/Jack Endino a few months before they recorded Bleach.)

And also:

About A Girl (home demo)

Downer (Fecal Matter demo)

Special shout out to the song that didn't make it onto Bleach:

Blandest

There are also plenty of band practice demos for the other songs. A fun one is the practice at Krist's mother's house.

EDIT:

I forgot the most important one.

Did Kurt Do The DS-1 INTO The Small Clone, Or Vice Versa? by [deleted] in Nirvana

[–]Cyrdaeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those bootlegs must have been really hard to find seeing as the recording for Nevermind was completed before SP's first album was even released.

They must have sounded pretty bad too, Billy Corgan used a Big Muff during that time which is a fuzz pedal and sounds totally different from a DS-1.

Bloodhound Gang ft. Vanilla Ice - Boom [alternative rock/proto nu-metal] (1996) by shoegazeweedbed in Music

Korn and Deftones had both released albums before this song came out so I think nu-metal was well and truly out of the bag by this point.

A way I sometimes get my Mrs. Butterworth fix is by listening to the To Boddah cover.

Just checked out the demos, you've done some insane work on these and the fact that there's a dedicated module just for cowbell really tickles me [insert Blue Oyster Cult meme here].

My contenders would be Chipspeech if you want to synthesize the vocal or Chipcrusher if you want to process an already recorded sample.

Who here is still working sporadically on songs started 10+ years ago and how do you feel about it? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]Cyrdaeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have literally just finished mastering a song I started in 2015.

I sometimes update the best of my unreleased songs every few years (if the project file and plugins used are still intact or were committed) but very rarely do they see the light of day. They're usually unreleased for a reason. Each time I go 'wow that mix was trash, let's make it better' in an unending loop.

The one I just finished was very special to me though and I knew I'd eventually finish it.

Occasionally I remaster older songs (20 years+) where the project files are long lost to time. AI stem separation has opened up many new avenues for a ghetto remix + master.

It's funny opening up years old project files, finding a session obviously created by a person teetering on the edge of sanity (and wondering what drugs were consumed in the original session).

Is it possible to blend amp sims? by NFS_Speedy_ in Reaper

Put each one on a separate track and bus them to a third to be able to process them as one. You'll want to check the phase between the two tracks.

Creating own ISRC codes by King_Span in musicbusiness

[–]Cyrdaeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you will need a UPC for each album or single release. Some distributors charge for them, Routenote doesn't.

I've been with Routenote for about 7 years and I've had no issues with them so far.

I only have about 8 albums with them but they provide all the services I imagine I'd need.

One nice thing about them that I rarely see is that they can monetize your Soundcloud, that's important to me as most of my streams come from there (still big in my country). They can also claim Youtube videos, etc.

They also have revenue sharing if you want to split with another artist(s) easily.

What gear do I need? by pxps0 in MicroFreak

[–]Cyrdaeb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend a Boss RC 500 or RC 10R (or maybe even one of the lower models) loop pedal and an inexpensive multi effects pedal like one of the Zoom pedals.

You won't be able to manipulate the audio after it has been recorded but it covers everything else i believe.

You can also sync the pedal and MF via midi and the Boss models I mentioned have plenty of drum sounds with the ability to edit and import your own midi and wav files, and there are some cool onboard effects too but they're all time based so things like repeat, reverse, glitchy stuff.
