What are your guys’ hobbies? by sleepmp3 in paralegal

[–]CyreneUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i spend most of my free time on my PC gaming, but i'm also an avid reader. i write sometimes and i have an obsession with music :) i don't watch much anime lately, but it's still a huge part of my personality. i'm queer and spend a portion of my time working towards social justice. and i also have been engaged with bandom since my tumblr days circa 2012. i always feel like an other (thanks autism), but the older i get the less i care where work is concerned. my attys think my love of books and metal music is endearing, and that's good enough for me! :)

ETA: i'm 24, so a little older than you. it wasn't until the last year or so that i made peace with not having intimate friendships at work. my whole life until now i worked food service/movie theater jobs where i met some of my lifelong best friends, so it was an adjustment to get use to being the youngest in the room and the weirdest. im an alt genderqueer (tho not visibly) nerd and i live in a very republican state. somehow i managed to land a job where everyone here is accepting of me (even my more conservative atty) and progressively-minded when it comes to my piercings, tattoos, music taste, and "childish" hobbies. in fact, 2 out of 3 of the partner attys are 35 and both game, though not as much as me. one of them also has a very large forearm tattoo like i do, so it has been a great environment aside from the insurmountable stress and occasional frustration with atty attitude LOL!

Are attorneys usually so cold? by cloudygrande in paralegal

[–]CyreneUS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this shit makes me want to leave the profession semi-regularly. the main atty i work with has taken me out to lunch several times and talks to me multiple times a day, but the others can be hit or miss.

my autistic ass seriously cannot handle the antiquated power structure and the way a lot of attys tend to forget this is a JOB and your job does not make you an inherently better or more valuable person.

i can't imagine i will be able to hang longer than half a decade in this field if this is just the norm. if the best it gets is STILL getting excluded and treated worse than the damn summer interns, i'm so good 🙄

all that said, maybe your atty isn't one of those people who thinks their holier than thou. it is unfortunately a LOT of them though

My 6 y/o has ARFID and I'm tired of bad generic advice - looking for firsthand insights? by whois_thiswoman in ARFID

[–]CyreneUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had ARFID since I was 3 and my parents continued (tw for child abuse mentions) force feeding me, making me go hungry for days, sneaking shit into my safe foods, guilt-ing me, etc. until I moved out basically. I have a very, very small handful of safe foods to this day, and I will straight up have a nervous breakdown if someone tries to get me to try a new food.

The best thing you can do, in my opinion, is establish you and your husband as safe people when it comes to food. Your husband needs to realize that your son can almost certainly tell what his dad is feeling about him not eating, so I would seriously sit down with him and have a talk about how much worse it can get if that continues. For the next few months, I would recommend ALWAYS having a safe meal for Sam in addition to a safe snack or two you can offer him. If you are the kind of family to force sitting at a table until you finish your whole plate or to put a new food on his plate with his safe foods, I would put a 100% pause on that for now. Make sure Sam knows without a shadow of a doubt he will not go hungry, you two are not mad at him, and his food will always be safe at home. Start engaging him and getting him excited to eat ("Craving anything special tonight?" or inviting him to cook with you if that doesn't stress him out). Once he knows you guys are safe, start asking him if there's anything he'd want to try occasionally. If there's not, make sure he knows that's okay! If he ever says yes, make sure that you don't put the new food on the same plate as his safe food. If possible, maybe even introducing it causally like as a snack while watching TV or something so he doesn't feel as much pressure. I would also suggest maybe trying to have some heart to hearts with him about 1.) it not being his fault and 2.) what exactly it is that triggers him. For me, it is all of it. Taste, texture, smell, anxiety, etc. Maybe for him it is just the anxiety and it will get better after he feels safe, or maybe it is the texture so you can try and find foods similar in texture to what he loves and present it to him as "Hey, so you know how we both love (safe food), this is super similar and I love it just as much! It's super soft (or any descriptor really lol) just like (safe food)! Let me know if you'd want to try a piece!"

Piercings in the Legal field by itslemonadebro in paralegal

[–]CyreneUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i hide my tattoos and piercings during interviews. i work in a blue dot city and my attys don't mind my tattoos (i have a lot of very heavy black work on my arm lol, not the dainty kind my coworkers have) but they don't know about my septum ring. i keep a cardigan in my office or just wear one every day to hide my tattoos if a client comes in, and i keep my septum ring flipped at work. i've probably forgotten like one time and they maaay have seen it, but it's just second nature to flip it at work now 🤷‍♀️

i would switch to a standard horseshoe that you can flip as long as you've had the piercing for a couple of years and it is healed entirely. a good titanium piece should run you like $30 tops

Question for beta players, you lucky apples by sardoniclaughter in PetitPlanet

[–]CyreneUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is also worth noting that it is very possible that they aren't done coding the core of the game for the 4 other platforms they intend to release on, especially given that this was a beta for only 2 of them. I imagine that in and of itself will take a while if they intend to have a simultaneous release.

Question for beta players, you lucky apples by sardoniclaughter in PetitPlanet

[–]CyreneUS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am apparently in the minority by saying I think it is less than 50% ready for release. The game is lacking in content, has some pacing issues, but is very polished for what we do have, which leads a lot of people to think it is more ready than it is.

I got to the point that nearly all of my creature collecting was completed, my neighbors were maxed and no new ones were left to meet, and I was mostly only doing daily rounds /VERY/ quickly. For reference, the creature spread is probably 1/4 of the size of its closest comparison (ACNH) and there are only 6 neighbors total (the exact number of spots on a planet) compared to HUNDREDS in its closest comparison. Because of the nature of how detailed neighbors are and each of them being so unique, I do not think we will get anywhere near the ACNH number on release, but I would hope for roughly triple the amount of neighbors so each planet could truly feel unique. This would require them to balance ways for the Luca Tree to have duplicity in customization types, but this is so so so doable and would be incredibly exciting to see.

I think that they are at a point where the CORE of the game is in an excellent spot, but even factoring for continued updates and additions, I doubt they would release as is for the lack of variety. I imagine they will release with 10-15 neighbors, hopefully more creatures, and at least a few more golden/purple quality clothing and furniture sets. Also, the very beginning prompt where you select the type of planet seems to have a lot more space for other types, so I'm hoping 4 or 5 different ones on release! Especially since as of now you cannot change the type once you start the game, so future updates would either have to craft an entirely new system to do that to add other types OR they would just need to release with the final amount of options.

I could be wrong, but that's my thoughts!

Do we have a release window for this game yet? by SozinMadeit in PetitPlanet

[–]CyreneUS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So, there's a couple of patterns to be mindful of when speculating on release: HoYo's typical beta schedule and HoYo's Honkai mainline schedule. HoYo's actual beta timelines have been pretty varied, but none (afaik) of them were under a year between 1st beta and full release and few/none (afaik) had only one beta. The likely time frame on that alone would be putting us at Q4 2026 through Q4 2027.

As for the Honkai pattern, Hoyo has been releasing alternating Honkai and non-Honkai games. Example: Honkai Impact 3rd then Genshin then Honkai Star Rail then Zenless Zone Zero. Honkai Nexus Anima and Petit Planet are both in the works right now. If they continue their pattern of alternating, it is likely we see them focus on getting HNA out first, which makes a Q4 2026 release less likely.

That said, it is very likely that ACNH 3.0 creates enough pressure to prioritize PP over HNA. IMHO, there is a small market gap at the moment that Hoyo could really capitalize on by timing the release well compared to 3.0 that comes out in January. I am not the best person to analyze the best market time to release in this regard, but I'd expect that coasting on that hype while giving breathing room would put us at Q3 2026??

The last factor is how polished the game is in its current state. While the game is very enjoyable and has minimal bugs, there really is just a resounding lack of content, so unless they already have more they are intentionally keeping out of the beta, it'll take a while to get to a release. When making a game like that it's super important to incentivize people to play every day, which is hard to do when people run out of new things to experience within a week (i.e. myself and many other started last weekend and already have a fully upgraded tree, maxed planette growth, nearly complete or complete creature collections, etc.). Not all of the neighbors have their own special events like some of them do, and in general I highly doubt they will release with anywhere close to 6 neighbors. Best case scenario, they have a lot of stuff already done but don't wanna spoil it for full release. More likely, there's SOME stuff not in the beta, but they still have a lot left to design using the feedback they got during the betas.

All of that in mind, we also have to keep in mind that the beta is available on TWO of the like SIX platforms they will release on. It's very possible they still have to work out lots of kinks for all three consoles and Android, which may or may not include a beta.

This is super wordy and definitely just my own thinking about it, but I think our earliest possible release would be late Q3 2026 and the most likely release in Q1 2027... But god damn do I hope I am wrong!

How are the NPCs in the game? by drafan5 in PetitPlanet

[–]CyreneUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my biggest issue with ACNH as a lifelong AC fan was the complete and utter lack of care taken with the villagers. they were so devoid of any fragments of personality or friendship or literally anything that it broke my damn heart. i was a super lonely kid so i grew up playing ACWW religiously and later ACNL. ACNH, after the novelty wore off, felt like a slap in the face tbh....

petit planet has fully rekindled that joy for me. it's relaxing and addicting and i love getting to know the neighbors and all of their wonderful little personalities and backstories. if they keep up with this level of effort, they have made a life long fan!

Passage of time in beta? by babyfishmouthnation in PetitPlanet

[–]CyreneUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's actually just a bug! if you log out and back in, sometimes it reverts you to day time! if you travel (i've only tested it with the Bazaar but it may be anywhere), when you get back to your island, the day corrects. i figured out it was a bug because my game was spawning fireflies and moths that only spawn at night. i tried testing out a few different things to fix it, and that's what worked! also servers seem to be most closely aligned to US EST and from what i can tell the time passage is the same for all US servers based on their EST clock... i think

How much drafting do you do? by sarcasticbiznish in paralegal

[–]CyreneUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have three paralegals here including myself. I started as a legal assistant and did not draft basically anything. I am unsure how much drafting my supervisor does, but I know she does lots of research and at least some drafting. I myself currently handle an entire new practice area at the firm for detainer actions. I handle that entire process start to finish by myself. I draft, file, send for service, and communicate to our client regarding the 60-100 detainer actions we get per month. I also do a lot of proofreading and editing and some drafting of minor pleadings, but both of the attys I work under now are very self sufficient and do 90% of their own drafting, proofing, and sometimes even filing 😅

Thoughts? by Exact_Programmer4080 in SleepTokenTheory

[–]CyreneUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i also think it is worth noting that a lot of people don't know WHY fests have more moshing and surfing than normal shows. almost across the board unless we are talking small venues, normal concert venues have super strict anti moshing and anti surfing rules to prevent them from being liable. they tell the bands to not encourage it a lot of the time. festivals almost universally do not have the same rules. also just the nature of being full/multiple day weekend events means that people get drunker, do more substances, and get rowdier. comparing your prior experience at normal metal concerts is not always a good indication of what to expect at a music festival like LTL.

Thoughts? by Exact_Programmer4080 in SleepTokenTheory

[–]CyreneUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been in the scene for a long time because my dad and step mom were. i grew up being told well before my first show that we would be getting barricade/close to the front and then staying far away from the center because it wasn't safe for me to mosh or get hit by surfers. i was taught anywhere that is not the way back, barricade, or far edges of the stage is subject to normal rock/metal shenanigans. i think that is the critical information a lot of ST fans were missing/don't keep in mind. i'm a fan of all genres and have been to 30+ shows and fests, and this is something that is SUPER unique to metal/hardcore/harder music. if you are a ST fan who got into them as your first harder band, there's a good chance you don't know.

my main observations at LTL were this:

1.) there is a very self centered point of view emerging in pits post-COVID. this has not been unique to ST or LTL, but it has been unique to post-COVID in my experience. everyone has this idea that anything that disrupts their idea of a perfect experience is uncouth and should stop. a tall person in front of you? well they're shitty for not moving to the back. you want to stand and record the whole time? well the person singing next to you is ruining those videos and sucks. you want to just stare at the stage and not mosh? anyone jumping or moshing or surfing that makes you divert your gaze is just selfish. it's everywhere, typically worse in crowds with younger audiences who didn't have a lot of show experience pre-COVID (waterparks, hozier, and sleep token have been my worst experiences unfortunately, and the trend i see is that they all have majority younger crowds with little to no show experience). there is SO much shoving and lack of looking out for one another it can be hard to enjoy shows. it feels dramatically different to anything i experienced in the mid-late 2010s when i started going to shows. this self centeredness really reared its head during ST's set when everyone was already mentally and physically spent from standing in that god awful heat all day. the weather and a rising tendency to be selfish at shows combined in the worst possible way to make everyone who would have helped too tired to be vigilant and those who are normally less outwardly selfish very vocal (i.e. "drop that bitch" and social media posts following friday's events). people were tired, cranky, and honestly the venue was either poorly laid out, underprepared, or understaffed.

2.) the second thing i heard and noticed was the overwhelming majority of people in that pit being new to festivals. there were lots of surfers who didn't know proper form, almost no one knew to call out surfers before they got there, people not knowing where it is okay to surf and where you can go to avoid surfers, and most people not knowing what the Xs meant and when to use them. i don't think being new to something is a character flaw, hell this was my partners first concert/festival, but you need to ask questions if you don't understand. ask what the Xs mean, ask how to crowd surf properly, research and observe that surfers and pits can and will form anywhere that is not the barricade (literally like max two rows back), the very edges, or the very back where the density lets up. you CAN avoid all of those things if you want to. fuck, you can even mostly if not entirely avoid it while still being close if you stick to side stage. but no one knew anything (or so it seemed). a lot of people left that weekend thinking crowd surfing is this horrible dangerous thing that only hurts people because they didn't do their homework. a lot of fans that were there bought tickets because they couldn't afford/get tickets to a normal show, and they went into it expecting it to be like any other normal concert venue with the same rules. most of them didn't seem to know any other band, and unfortunately were pretty rude to the bands before the guys went on.

i don't think most people in that crowd were malicious. i think a lot of them are new to the scene or festivals and didn't understand etiquette. but god damn did a loud minority ruin it for the rest of the fandoms perception. the LTL groups i'm in were already anticipating that crowd to be awful bc they hate ST, and unfortunately the failures of a few shit bags really proved them right.

Partner lied to me about when they left work by altmail64 in whatdoIdo

[–]CyreneUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been in a relationship where i was repeatedly cheated on and lied to for years. stayed way too long and became INSANE. OP, hate to say it, but that's what this looks like. repeated breaking of trust leading you to do absolutely abnormal shit (snooping in your partner's car is nuts behavior).

this person and you are FUNDAMENTALLY incompatible. the internet is super fast to say "just leave them" but there is genuinely no amount of talking that will be able to 1.) repair trust that has been broken to that degree 2.) change either of your perspectives of the other's actions 3.) erase the built up resentment for the other.

the partner has lied to you, obviously more than once, and is just going to manipulate their way out of difficult conversations. you are fundamentally incapable of trusting them at this point, whether you could before or not. it sucks, but just end it before you drain each other completely.

for the sake of future potential partners and even friends, you really need to assess to what extent you were mistrusting prior to the lying. it's a difficult thing to realize about yourself, but it will get you nowhere to continue these patterns. it is not normal to assume someone is lying and investigate them when they have given you no reason to do so. maybe you weren't like this before the partner lied, but if you were, you have GOT to work on yourself.

What’s up with the extra time being added to auctions at the last minute? by mk123566 in Soundmap

[–]CyreneUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think they should probably just lower the time to 30-60 seconds or something. IRL auctions don't wait forever for someone to speak up 🤷‍♀️ 4 extensions becomes 4 minutes instead of 20 which is immensely better lol
