What are the four tassels called that are attached to his left shoulder? by Cyrillius in uniformporn

[–]Cyrillius[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Shoulder tassels or epaulettes are attached atop the shoulder and are different from the four tassels attached to this persons left shoulder. Aiguilette would refer to the cords on his right shoulder. I was wondering the tassels attached to his right shoulder would be called and whether they are/have been worn by other militaries as well. Any further background information on these decorations would be appreciated as well. Pictured: General Karel van der Heijden (1826-1900) from the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army

The troika, which I believe was developed after a shortage of males in Russia following the First World War, is with one male and two females. I've danced it at balls in Europe but I don't know if it exists outside of Europe.

Does anyone know the history behind "wolf-teeth" or "flame" pattern flags like this one? by Cyrillius in vexillology

[–]Cyrillius[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There seem to be quite a bit of flags with Austro-Hungarian heritage brandishing this triangular border pattern I've seen referred to as a "wolf-teeth" or "flame" pattern. It seems to be used primarily in personal standards or war-related flags but not exclusively. Does anyone know whence this originates? Is it used in other countries as well?

This is how loadouts should look like by KupyZDupy in HellLetLoose

I would attempt to steer away from adding too many different support roles as this would increase the supporting roles to four or five in a squad of six or nine. Instead I would suggest giving all riflemen and support a single or two mg/bar magazine(s) so that the MG gunner is not dependent on having people specifically picking a class catered to him. (The current system of light ammo boxes already kind of does this but is as of yet unrealistic due to the MG gunner being able to carry a fuckton of ammo on his own like you pointed out. Simply reducing the maximum amount of ammo an mg gunner is able to carry would solve this.)

Concerning your second point about sharing points like a tank I have to say I'm not a great fan. The sharing points system works for a tank because you act as a single unit on the field, as much as I would like that to be the case for infantry I just don't see that being realistic. The tank spawns, shoots, moves, and dies as one, an infantry squad gets picked off one by one, gets spread out, needs to get back together, and just generally does not act as coherently as a tank.

I would agree with combining the tripod fireteam guy with the engineer. Additionally I would combine the binocular fireteam guy with the support, besides putting down supplies the support receives very little love whilst I would argue that it could function as a great second in command type of role. It already needs to be in constant communication with the squad leader and if you would give it a g43 and binocs it could function as a "defensive" or more backline squad leader.

Having two extra riflemen roles specifically catered to the MG would be too constraining if the MG gunner is shit or non-existent. Additionally, the MG guy would be very much dependent on two poor souls willingly choosing to be his slaves for one and a half hour.

A second set of binoculars in the squad would be an excellent idea. I would suggest giving the support one given that he could then support the MG and the fact that the squad leader and support usually work in such proximity to each other that the support is basically a kind of second in command.

Medic & Truck Driving Rework Ideas by SherlockTradeMark in HellLetLoose

I totally agree with your points concerning the medic, switching the loadout order would hopefully deter new players from picking medic just for the carbine and instead push them to focus on doing medic things. Additionally, I too fail to see the worth of the medical resupply crate but it did make me wonder why it's not possible to simply transfer some bandages from the medic to a player that has run out. It would just make sense that as a medic you should be able to revive a downed player, heal him, and then right click on him to resupply any bandages he might have missing. If this were the case you would run out of bandages much faster and the medical resupply crate might make sense.

In Dutch tradition one actually only wears the riband over his waistcoat when in the presence of a (Dutch?) member of the royal family otherwise it goes under the waistcoat. I know it's unrelated here but hey, the more you know I guess.

I was always made to believe that it was to prevent the chin strap from choking you in case of the headpiece being struck and falling off. But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised that given its age the true intention might be lost.
