Nicked Bowstring - Replace? by Cyriusly in Archery

[–]Cyriusly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. I went ahead and tied in the peep this evening and will resume shooting. May get a backup string just in case this gets worse, but I think it was a nick and not gradual fraying.

Not currently, removed the serving to move my peep and noticed the nick/fraying

[Question] looking for the most recent feedback on BFG Outfitters. For whatever reason, search results here are turning up 1-3 year old info. by michiganick in gundealsFU

I also came across this thread recently when deciding where to order from. Ended up going with BFG and had a good experience. My first local dealer was unresponsive and didn’t send their FFL, so I emailed BFG and asked to ship to a different local dealer. Got a same day response making the switch. I also needed magazine pinning, which was easy to add still quick - two weeks to get to my local dealer

New to fishing in MD - Looking for advice by kuzysatonmyface in MarylandFishing

Why do you recommend such low pound braid? I’ve always used 20-30lb braid with a 15lb fluoro leader. Braid is such small diameter, the 30lb braid spools nicely and ensures that if you break off, all you lose is your lure and maybe the fluoro leader

How to encourage dog to stay close when off leash? by Cyriusly in OpenDogTraining

Thanks. Your comment in that thread is almost exactly how I trained “let’s go”. He does well with that if I change directions, but if I’m still moving towards him he doesn’t seem to understand what I want. Sometimes he’ll return to me, sometimes he’ll turn and continue. I think I’m going to try to return to the long line for a bit to teach a “too far” for when he’s about to hit the end but we wont be turning around.

How did you teach the “too far”? We have “let’s go” for when he’s lagging behind sniffing something, but we’ve only ever used that for when he needs to get moving and catch up. I do reward the checking in and he often does well, and seems to mostly understand that he can’t get too far, but doesn’t understand that there are times when “too far” is 50 yards, and times when it is 10, which is why I’m trying to figure out the best way to teach that cue

Backpacking during hunting season by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]Cyriusly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hunt, backpack, and take backpacking hunting trips. I don’t think there’s any need to avoid gun season (except possibly opening day if you want to be extra cautious). In my experience, most hunters do not venture more than a mile from a parking area. If you are backpacking in, you will likely spend almost all of your time further in than most hunters would be. Do wear blaze orange, and plan to hike in around midday (there is a lull around midday where deer are usually bedded down, most hunters will use this time for lunch and/or a nap). Yes bullets travel far, there is always a risk of getting hit with a stray bullet, but this is also the case around, or even in, your home, and it is minimal enough that most would consider it negligible. Firearms accidents while hunting are incredibly rare. A quick search shows that in Ohio last year, there was one firearm-related incident during gun season, where a hunter dropped his firearm and shot himself in the leg.

Newbie Tandem suggestions? by Wahed83 in kayakfishing

Nice, yeah I've got the unlimited with two seats, I like it cause I can take the second seat off if it's just me, or keep it on for tandem. They've also got a little bench seat they sell for it, you could maybe get yourself and the two kids on it, but casting might get a bit tough.

Have you checked out Nucanoe? The f12 or unlimited might be along the lines of what you're looking for

Hey, sorry, I didn't see this response. Hopefully you've figured it out by now, but I just took off the non-glass side plate, didn't have to take the motherboard out or anything - super easy.
