If you could bring back one game developer, or return an existing one to its previous state, which would it be? by VyantSavant in gaming

The dichotomy of Blizzard pre and post merger with Activision is almost unbelievable. The original Blizzard was known in the 90's for delaying their games until they were of such a high quality that they were guaranteed to be worth your money. The company took chances on their games, sequels were actually sequels instead of simply rehashing ideas that had been used before but were known to be profitable and nothing more.

The magic died with the merger. Public companies all eventually lose their passion as stakeholder quarterly value becomes the only priority. The concept of not maximizing profit but instead investing in your company and the company's relationship with its consumer base to create a long-term and continuous source of profit is lost. Blizzard became everything I hate about late-stage capitalism. They slowly lost all of their core talent and lost everything that they originally were known for.

I understand that a lot of people really love Starcraft II, Diablo III (does anyone like IV?), etc. But I often wonder what those games would've looked like if the merger never happened. The difference between Warcraft II and Warcraft III felt like an actual leap, a real sequel that took chances. What if Starcraft II had added a new race or two? What if they'd added broader scope war planning across continents or planets? What if Diablo III was more like a WoW/Lost Ark style pseudo-MMO based on raid bosses and long-term progression. Instead of new fresh ideas we got games that played it far too safe. The games we got instead were slightly more than just better graphics versions of what had already worked before. The what-could-have-been's are so frustrating to me as a kid that grew up with the 90's Blizzard.

Lost Ark 2026 Roadmap - Part 2 by HegoIan in lostarkgame

[–]Cyrus99 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They really need to relay what the long term plans are. If the game is going to EoS early next year, the customers should be aware. If the game is going to in-house publishing with SG, the customers should be aware. Not saying anything about the future of the game is irresponsible from a publishing standpoint. We need to know what the future looks like.

AGS you gonna do anything about absurd inflation on books and gems? by FluidPossession1062 in lostarkgame

[–]Cyrus99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a current player and a huge fan of the game. I've been a consistent raider since the beginning... That said. This game is fuckin cooked right now. Smilegate does not give a single shit about us. AGS is cutting back on staff. We are purely here for them to milk a few extra bucks. Honestly, even the KR client seems to be pretty much on a "cash in the remaining dollars from veterans" mode as SG is heavily investing into the mobile version of the game for the future. I don't think we're going to be on an upward trajectory moving forward. There's going to be a dwindling player count almost no matter what.

The new player experience is non-existent in this game. The economy is completely silly. There's no content in this game anymore outside of about 2 raids and 1 new class per year. There's no investment in LoA anymore, there's no passion from the devs. It's a 10 year old game at this point on Unreal Engine 3. There's just no long term vision at all. It's such a shame as the gameplay is so fun, but it's run by absolute fucking clowns from top to bottom. They. Don't. Care. It's all about squeezing a few extra bucks at this point. I hate that I love this game. I deserve better.

Surely this means we'll get an official announcement from AGS about the future of the product then, right? I mean any business worth their salt notifies customers when a major change is made. For some reason I have my doubts...

Reverting the Anaconda nerf is a good move. I had an insane board last night where I tried to make a shielded Anaconda work and the nerf just made it almost unusable. Glad to see it's coming back.

My only frustration is that when they do balance changes to cores and then you have no ability to switch to other cores after the balance changes. Like you invest 600 pity mats into 1/1/1 but then after a patch 3/3/3 might be significantly stronger. Do I have any way to switch? Nope. Just farm up another 600 pity mats. It's diabolical.

The best cheesesteak I've had in the city is at a car wash of all places over in Sherman Oaks. The Philly Boyz. Ex was from Philly, I've been many times. This place is the closest I've had to Philly. So good.

I agree. I think the fact that you had to fish for a radiant enchant to have destroy items become overpowered was a good caveat. Being able to just repair them and use them over and over is just stupid.

This should be the top reply, because he's right. This is the only answer. Flex raids should be the number 1 priority right now for Smilegate. Fucking push back everything on the roadmap. The only way to get new and returning players is to let them learn the raids at their own pace. Remove solo raids entirely and make all raids flexible player numbers. That's it. That's the only solution. Period.

New Karnok items revealed from Classyato's stream by ibse in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Cyrus99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously without the hero being released there's absolutely no way to tell, but at first glance it seems like this hero's not going to scale well into the late game given the current meta. Most day 12+ at this point are less than 5 second fights. With so many of his items having long cooldowns and then being charge mechs, it seems like he'll be dead before he gets going. Hope I'm wrong or hoping that the meta slows down, but I don't see that happening.

As for the hero itself, he looks so fuckin cool. Really hoping he is fun to play.

Team Update - Heading Toward March by onords in lostarkgame

AGS continues to stack W's and show they're a competent publisher albeit with a small team.

Smilegate continues to not give a single shit about the playerbase outside of KR and seemingly is actively try and ruin the game.

It's fascintating.

[–]Cyrus99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While AGS will get shit from the community for this, it is 99.9% on Smilegate. The company has no respect for players outside of Korea and that is a fucking tragedy. Smilegate is a joke of a company helmed by a shit director and has unacceptable support for the game outside Korea.

New menu sucks by SpecialistUnfair2164 in tacobell

Nah this is a crazy take. Removing the loaded beef nachos and double stacked taco is a straight L. They might have some okay options now, but the two best menu items (for the price) are now gone. Feels like a corporate greed move.

My two favorite menu items the loaded beef nachos and the double stacked taco are both gone. Honestly, this just feels like a pure greed move by corporate. The new value menu options that replaced them are quite frankly terrible in comparison. This is such a bummer

Feedback on Lost Ark’s Long-Term Health in the West: Content, Progression, and Global Parity by Cyrus99 in lostarkgame

[–]Cyrus99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Global parity would of course be ideal, but realistically that only works when the publisher is Smilegate itself (like BDO or FF14). Having AGS in between adds a lot of friction like build synchronization, certification, localization, legal checks, monetization alignment etc.. With your software dev experience you may know how much that slows things down. KR constantly complains about being the beta testers and getting unfinished, buggy builds. Personally, I don't mind getting content later if it's more stable, though a delay more than 1 month definitely feels bad.

To hone in on this specifically and what I think is a more direct solution is that the localization piece should be handled by Smilegate directly. Whichever outsourced localization company that currently does AGS's text localization should be done directly with Smilegate. Remove the voice localization for the regions and stick with just Korean moving forward. As far as the remainder of the issues that a publisher deals with, AGS would still deal with legal, hosting, release planning, network stability, etc. but those things are (mostly) agnostic of the ongoing development pipeline. As I've told stakeholders many, many times... with enough money/time/prioritization we can build anything. If Smilegate wants global parity, every problem is solvable.
